Management has destroyed a wonderful resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Kore Tulum We have stayed at Kore Tulum for 10 out of the past 13 years. This year the overall mismanagement, lack of staff training, serious reduction in the quality and availability of food and services makes Kore Tulum no longer a desirable resort. We are not the only critics. We have talked to other guests (new and returners) who are equally appalled (and saddened) by what appears to be management’s decision to virtually abandon the hotel. We stayed in a wonderful suite each year. This year, unlike all earlier years, we had to wait 3 hours they said were needed to clean it. It usually takes 40 minutes for their most thorough cleaning. Some specifics: at many lunches there is no menu – just an offering of 3-4 things. The quality of the food available is poor. There are few services -- yoga, etc. that were originally provided) Overall, the staff are nice but many lack the training to provide the level of service expected for what we are paying. If there is a manager, we have never seen him or her; there is no indication of competent oversight -- no one to talk to about our concerns – with the exception of the very bright woman at the main desk. Some suggest the current manager is taking money off the top and I can believe this. We have loved Kore Tulum’s setting and are very sad to lose it as our annual December vacation. We very much hope that the owners and management decide to invest, hire excellent new management, train staff and maintain the facility so that all your guests return and enjoy Kore Tulum again. If not, close it down instead of offering guests something that is never delivered. Bye to what was a very good establishment in previous years. It will take a lot to fix up this place and win back all the customers lost this year. It is sad.

Awful food, stained sheets, no activities. Cold hot tubs. DO NOT STAY

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Do NOT stay here!!!! My friend and I came and stayed here on a Groupon, super low price and we found out very quickly as to why. This may have been a really awesome place at some point but it is falling apart quite literally. The rooms have black mold, stained sheets, and for a day & a half, no running water. The staff was not the friendliest and they were understaffed for some of the time to the point where people were making their own drinks behind the only one pool bar. The liquor options are bottom shelf. There is only one restaurant and the food all tastes the same, like burnt freezer. Nasty! The breakfast was the only thing potable in my opinion as well as others around. Speaking of people, the place was DEAD. There’s no beach to lay out on or swim in. The sun beds were made up only one of the 5 days we were there. The rest, falling apart and unusable. The pool is nice and refreshing. The hot tubs aren’t hot at all. The pool and hot tub also closed at 7 according to one person and then they were open later the next day. Zero consistency with the staff responses. Everything on the website it states they have, they don’t. The spa packages come with use of the amenities inside the spa however the steam room wouldn’t turn on, the hot tub was ice cold and the sauna wasn’t up to temp. It rained for a day we were there and the roof in our balcony leaked, I mean POURED out into the already unusable jacuzzi that’s out there. I could literally go on forever about how awful the place was. Please spend a little more money, and go somewhere else after reading reviews.

Terrible Terrible Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This says it’s a 4 Star which it definitely is not maybe a 2 1/2. Ran out of toilet paper Daily. The restaurant is suppose to have breakfast buffet never happened. Couldn’t get half the food on the menu everyday. Air doesn’t work in half the rooms. The worst thing we witnessed was staff members having sex in the rooms not being used. The kitchen staff were ok, the lobby staff were rude and they lie to you. The rooms were never cleaned properly and no clean towels. Don’t go to this resort it’s a dump!!!!

Bad

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

I came for my birthday and I’m never going back. I had lizard and snail in my room and they sweep the snail left the lizard. So one employee checked the other room before we moved in n it’s was water everywhere on the floor. Third room wont clean so they moved us to the last room and it was ok until the morning n it wasnt NO WATER. They didn’t want us to talk to management so we moved to a different resort.. first time in Tulum and last time.

A decent stay if you manage your expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

I came to Kore Tulum for a solo trip on a last minute off season deal, so I did not have super high expectations for quality of the resort. My only intention was to have a restful week in a beautiful place, and on that front, the resort delivered. The location is stunning, positioned right against the rocky coast and overlooking the beautiful turquoise sea. I spent the bulk of my days laying out on one of the numerous sun beds, reading or dozing and listening to the waves crash against the shore while the attentive staff came around every 30 mins to refresh my drink. There was also a simple gym and a nice pool for a quick workout and swim. In that respect, it was an ideal week and given that I came on a low cost deal, I feel I got my money’s worth. However, the resort has some serious issues that are worth considering before booking. First and foremost, this resort offers an all-inclusive package, but the food ranges from barely acceptable to abysmal. All-inclusives are rarely setting the world on fire with their cuisine, but you can generally at least count on them to have some basic fresh foods and give you some taste of the local cuisine. Not here. Their lunch and dinner menus (which rotate, but not on any regular cadence I could figure out) focus on very poorly made Italian and new American styles, and everything tastes like it came out of a can or a box with no seasoning. Breakfast fared better with some simple egg dishes available, but the unsanitary set up of the kitchen means you should pay close attention to your food and eat with caution (I found a giant dead bug in one of my omelettes). You can leave the resort to get better food from local restaurants, but the area is not walkable so in rain season you’re forced to take overpriced taxis (I understand there are bikes available when the weather is more consistent). I spent 50 USD round trip to go 10 minutes into the city and bring back a couple decent Mexican meals. The rooms are quite nice and spacious, with comfortable beds that I slept very well in, but the water flow is egregiously slow. Rooms are appointed with large jacuzzi tubs, but it took at least two hours for mine to fill up, and sometimes longer. The television in my room was tiny and old; I was glad I brought my iPad so that I could connect to my usual streaming apps. The WiFi was spotty and weak, however (it went out entirely for about 36 hours), and I had to use my phone hotspot a lot of the time. If I didn’t have unlimited data I’d have been upset. Overall, you can tell that this resort simply isn’t getting the resources and care it needs to be up to its purported standard; it needs some reinvestment to fix crumbling infrastructure and upgrade the rooms and restaurant and it could be something special. To end on a nicer note, I do want to commend the staff for being all around lovely and doing their best to provide good service. Freddy, in particular, was so kind—he learned my name on the first day and remembered it the rest of the week, and he was always a step ahead of me in anticipating my needs. He’s great at his job. The housekeeping team was fast and discreet and always kept my mini fridge stocked. The ladies at the spa were wonderful and my massage was very relaxing, and the servers at the restaurant and bar were unfailingly friendly and efficient. If you can book this at a deep discount and know what you’re going for, I don’t think it’s a bad place to spend a week. But I would not pay full price to stay here in its current condition, and I’d skip the all-inclusive and plan to go into town for meals.

This is not only a fantastic deal but an incredible property! We were amazed at the beauty, luxury, cleanliness and quality of this property - especially given the package price that Luxury Link put together. We arrived to have our feet washed and massaged while indulging in champagne cocktails. Our room was right on the ocean with every amenity possible. Our private butler made sure our in-room iPod had the right selection of songs we preferred, our wireless internet access worked perfectly, and we chose and received the right soap fragrance, aromatherapy scent and pillow type. We had an outdoor jetted tub that would be filled in the evening with candles and flower petals leading the way, chilled wine or champagne along with decadent chocolate dessert offerings delivered each night. This package came with spa inclusions and we were apparently VIPs because of our purchase through Luxury Link - they gave each of us extra special treatments! The spa facility was 5-star. They offered us various menus when dining and would even honor any special request. They couldn't be happier to assist you in any way. Plan on an incredible vacation! We are definitely going back!

We just returned from our third stay in as many years and it will now be a trip at least every six months. The rooms are beautiful, as is everything else. The service is so good that I can't come with a word for it. Within a day they know your name, likes and dislikes and even cocktail of choice. Our room was spotless, the service was immediate, the spa is to die for and this is from someone whom has traveled extensively. This is a small resort and perfect for sunning, snacking, exercising and recharging your batteries. I am looking for the next Luxury Link, so get ready for competition!
