About the Hotel

A thirteenth century castle buried deep in a wooded parkland sounds like the setting for a fairy tale, but really it is home to the exclusive Ashford Castle. Standing impressively on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a monument to a fascinating and timeless history. Once the Guinness Family estate, the Castle has since opened its doors as an exclusive luxury hotel in 1939. Where else could one spend the morning learning how to fly a hawk at the School of Falconry, escape to the Walled Garden for a romantic picnic, and relax in the afternoon with a soothing massage at the spa? Filled with family heirlooms, rich furnishings and priceless objets dâ€(TM)art, Ashford presents the chance to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in comfort and style.

Reviews for Ashford Castle

Always a winner

Stated 2 nights, it was excellent as always. Had food in the drawing room and TheGeorge 5th restaurant both really lovely. I would recommend the 5 course tasting menu in The George 5th. Staff are excellent as always , they have that lovely mix of professionalism and friendliness. The lovely Annette and John provided the music both evenings , they are excellent at what they do and so inclusive of the guests. We had spa treatments and had the pool to ourselves, then the massages and the quiet room afterwards. 3 hours of pure indulgence. Later we had fun shopping in Mrs. Teas . We have already booked our stay for 2025. Looking forward to returning 💕.

Stunning Castle Visit

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We recently completed a 2.5 week trip to Ireland and staying here was probably the highlight of the trip. The castle is gorgeous, the staff is incredibly gracious, and the grounds and lake are amazing. Many people only come for a day or so but there is loads to do and it is worth a few days if you can. Please see the website for all the activities available at the castle and the nearby countryside. Further, the restaurants, bar, and wine list are very good. Upgrading to a lake view is recommended and, if you are up for a splurge and like antiques mixed with modern conveniences, the Kennedy suite is amazing!

Symphony of Sophisticated Comfort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

From check-in to checkout, this place hit all the right notes. The lobby's ambiance set the perfect tone, and the rooms followed through with that promise of refined comfort. The breakfast service was a daily highlight, and the evening turndown service included lovely personal touches. The staff's genuine warmth made us feel like valued guests rather than just customers.

Wonderful Ashford

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Just spent 2 nights with friends celebrating a Big Birthday in the beautiful Ashford Castle. Having been looking forward to being there for months in advance we certainly were not disappointed, in fact it knocked us all for 6…. Simply amazing, effortless service from the front gate, front door and all front of house staff… we immediately felt the warmth and hospitality from everyone at the hotel so much so that I believe all the guests radiated the same energy. Rooms, restaurants, bars and the Castle Estate were resplendent in the Autumn mist…. Cannot praise the Hotel highly enough except to say I’m already looking forward to a return visit safe in the knowledge our friends will be waiting to greet us .

BIRTHDAY SPLURGE

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I was celebrating a milestone birthday and my first holiday in Ireland. Ashford Castle was both a dream destination and a welcoming plan to relax and rejuvenate for a couple of nights, midway in our 10 day self driving itinerary. From the moment I stepped out of our car, I was cocooned in the care and warmth of the staff. From the liveried doorman’s greeting, the offering of warm drinks and the manor house’s lit fireplace, we were home for the next 2 days. After a brief tour of the manor, Concierge arranged a driver to take us across the picturesque castle bridge, for a relaxing dinner at Cullen’s at the Cottage. We arrived back to our beautifully appointed room, with a four poster king bed and opulent fabric lined walls, to be pleasantly surprised that housekeeping had conducted turn down services; with bedside slippers and chocolates. Leisurely breakfasting in our room both mornings was a scrumptious white tablecloth affair, whilst enjoying our room’s view of Lake Corrib. The informative Falconry Walk with Rory and Hansel, throughout the wooded grounds, gardens and lake side was an unforgettable, unparalleled place experience. We immersed ourselves, over the next two days, not once but twice, in the resort’s five star spa treatments. Our Afternoon Tea experience, guided by a Tea Sommelier, was delightful for both the eyes and the tastebuds. On our last night, still full from our late Afternoon Tea, we canceled our dinner reservation. Alternatively, we enjoyed imaginative cocktails and whiskey flights fireside, while being attended by expert bartenders in The Prince of Wales Bar and enjoying the evening’s entertainment in the elegant drawing room. My only regrets are that we were unable to visit the village of Cong and more fully explore the castle and grounds during our short stay. Leaving us eagerly planning our next Ashford Castle adventure.

This is one of the finest properties we have ever visited. It is a beautiful castle, but it is also a world class hotel in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The grounds are large and bikes are available for guests, the fishing on the river and the lake are first rate, and the service is unmatched. We have stayed twice and can't wait to go back again.
