I have been a loyal patron of Siam Kempinski since its incorporation. However, the incident on October 4, 2024, left my husband and me in a state of fear and disbelief, completely destroying my birthday vacation and significantly damaging our trust in their establishment. On the evening of October 4, 2024, at around 7:00 p.m., my husband and I went to dine at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin restaurant in the hotel, to celebrate my birthday. We had spent the entire day inside the hotel prior to dining at the restaurant, ordering breakfast and lunch via room service, and had gone for a swim in the pool. Apart from a brief trip to Siam Paragon from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., we had not left the hotel. During our dinner, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours, my husband left the restaurant on three occasions to use the restroom and to smoke. While he didn’t notice anything unusual the first time, during his subsequent two trips outside the restaurant, he found a suspicious individual loitering around the vicinity of the restaurant. Shortly after we returned to our Cabana room, this same individual attempted to break into our room. The intruder, first speaking what sounded like Thai, then said in English something along the lines of "go in, money, gun." The individual then revealed a firearm, previously hidden in a plastic bag, and pointed it directly at my husband's head. My husband fought back, using his leg to push against the door whilst signalling me to hide behind it. Together, we managed to slam the door shut, narrowly escaping harm. I was completely unsafe, vulnerable and was deeply shaken how such an event can occur right outside the hotel room of what is purported to be one of the world’s most luxury hotel brand. I immediately called the front desk in panic and utter shock, that someone had tried to break into our room with a firearm. To our dismay, the response was entirely inadequate, Ms. Nuttawan, the duty manager, only arrived 10 minutes later with two security personnel despite the obvious urgency of the situation. By then, I was in total shock, shaking and in tears as I recounted the incident to her. The only response I received was, "So sorry to happen this." Ms. Nuttawan briefly mentioned that they would go check the CCTV and then left me and my husband alone in our room. No immediate follow-up whatsoever was offered, nor were any further steps taken to address the issue and ensure our safety. It was only after I called the front desk again, expressing our fear and need for safety, that they arranged for us to be moved to a different room. We specifically booked the Cabana Room for its direct access to the swimming pool, which was a key part of our birthday vacation plans, which is now evidently, completely disrupted on a multitude of levels. Moreover, the traumatic incident had left us unable to sleep for the remainder of the night. We felt extremely unsafe and shaken. The following morning, on October 5, 2024, around noon we met with Ms. Chuleeporn Somsan, Ms. Nantoporn Srivirat (personal assistant to the general manager), and the security manager to discuss the incident in the main lobby. During the meeting, I raised my concerns and complaints regarding the extremely unhurried response from the hotel to my urgent call for help. Despite clearly indicating that we were in immediate danger from an armed burglar, no one from the hotel checked on us for 10 minutes. I also questioned how it was possible for such a suspicious individual to loiter around Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin restaurant area for more than two hours without being noticed by hotel security, especially considering that my husband had already noticed him during his trips to the restroom. The security manager explained that two minutes before my call, they had received a message from the restaurant about a suspicious person loitering near the restaurant. They said they had followed up on the restaurant’s message, but they claimed to have found nothing unusual during their follow-up. Their reasoning for not arriving at our room immediately after my desperate call for help was that they were trying to catch/find the burglar near the Cabana room area. This explanation is completely unacceptable. A hotel of this size and supposed prestige, should have been able to send at least one security staff member to immediately check on us, given that we had just been held at gunpoint. For those 10 minutes, my husband and I were left feeling terrified, helpless, and completely abandoned by the hotel staff. The fact that hotel security was unable to notice the suspicious individual loitering in the area outside the restaurant for over two hours also raises serious concerns about the competence of your security measures. How is it possible that a suspicious individual could loiter in the hotel in the same area for so long without being noticed? Moreover, how is it possible that someone who is not a hotel guest, as is the burglar, was able to easily enter the vicinity of the Cabana room? This suggests gross negligence on the part of the hotel’s security team— the only explanation to the event is that the hotel’s security team were not actively monitoring the CCTV, nor were they patrolling the hotel premises as they should have. Given the situation, we no longer felt safe at Siam Kempinski and requested to leave the hotel immediately. Ms. Somsan informed us that the hotel would file a police report. I requested documentation proving that this was done, as well as a formal written explanation from the hotel about the incident. When we left, Ms. Somsan assured us that the General Manager of Siam Kempinski would send a formal apology via email. However, we have yet to receive this apology until 9/10/24. By then, I wrote a complaint letter to the management board on 9/10/24 but still didn't receive any reply until 21/10/24.
