Reviews for 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

Unfortunately not worth the money

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Unfortunately, I can’t say this hotel is worth the money/time spent and doesn’t live up to the standard of a five star hotel. I wanted to love this place, but simply unable. Biggest takeaway you need to acknowledge when booking this hotel is that what you are paying for is the view and lobby aesthetic. For some, that’s enough but I just expected more from a five star hotel. Pros: most of the staff were extremely pleasant (Reception, staff in the upstairs lounge and the restaurant on the ground floor, etc). Great views from the upstairs lounge and room (if you pay for it). Lobby is well decorated and lives into their “sustainable” narrative. Cons: the mattress… I mean that should be the most critical element to their business model given that they’re a hotel. You could physically feel the springs pressing up through the mattress, on top of the fact it was the most firm mattress I’ve experienced at a hotel. Their pet policy… they dub themselves as pet friendly and request that you don’t leave your pet alone in the room, which I agree with. Unfortunately they don’t allow dogs in their dining areas, which is again understandable. I stepped out for 15 minutes to grab food to go and received an extremely rude call telling me to return back to my room immediately because my dog barked. I explained I was just grabbing food to go and was rudely referred to the pet agreement I signed. If you’re pet friendly yet don’t allow dogs in areas of the building, what is a guest supposed to do? Either be pet friendly and give guests at least a short grace period - or don’t allow pets at all. Totally understand that all guests have a right to enjoy the property, but that goes both ways. I also dealt with people slamming doors at all hours of the night/morning, yelling in the hallways and could hear music from the lounge or someone’s room nearby - but this is NYC so no one should expect complete silence. At minimum, at least approach the situation with a little bit more diplomacy and respect for a guest. Lastly, the functionality of the hotel room itself… the hotel definitely had aesthetic in mind vs. functionality. The water from the shower leaked under the shower door and onto the floor. The toilet area was extremely tiny with a movable toilet paper stand inside because the area is so little. Feels like you’re in a closet, instead of using the restroom in your room at a five star hotel. Overall, best piece of advice I can give is to skip staying at the hotel all together and just visit the restaurant or rooftop lounge, unless you’re in the market to pay simply for the views from your room (which you can get from upstairs). I’ve had countless more enjoyable experiences staying at other high affluent hotel properties throughout the city.

Hit or miss

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel was a little hit or miss, and I likely wouldn't stay there again. -Restaurant: the food was generally good, but the service was awful--you'd be sitting there for 10-15 minutes waiting for a server, and then you'd never see that same server again. This happened across multiple meals -Room: the view was stunning. But all night there was a strange water gushing noise as if we could hear toilets flushing and the water coming down the pipes. It was really hard to sleep with this weird noise. I also found the bed covers to not be warm enough, and the set up of the bathroom is a little strange--the doors to the shower and toilet don't fully close so there is no privacy. -Gym: Fine but nothing to write home about. -Spa: the facial was fine, nothing spectacular, but the lounge area and the steam room is all co-ed; I felt uncomfortable being in just a towel in a steam room in that situation. Also, there's no facilities except for the steam room in the spa, like no hot tub or plunge pool. Overall it was good for the weekend but I will look at more comfortable options next time.

Staycation at the 1

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The 1 Hotel was an amazing spot for our one night staycation in NYC. The lobby is so beautiful, wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy coffee and a good book. The cocktail lounge is stunning. Drinks were perfect and we loved watching all the helicopters take off and land in downtown Manhattan.--and is there really any hotel that smells better than a 1 Hotel? A winter snowstorm completed our picture-perfect views of the Brooklyn Bridge from our cozy perch at the bar. I can't wait to go back.

Too unconventional -- we won't be back

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed in a large suite with a wonderful view of the NYC skyline. The staff was friendly and eager to accommodate. However, in their attempt to be innovative, they broke too many conventions for a 5-star hotel. The basic and customary amenities were lacking and asking for them was hit or miss; and the design of the room, lighting, bathroom, was frustrating throughout our stay. We will never go back.

Oasis of peace

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We loved our time at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. The hotel is beautiful, and the decor lends a feeling of peace and serenity. Felt like an oasis in the bustling city. The area is a fantastic location for exploring all of NYC. We walked to great shops and restaurants, and it is a short walk to the closest subway stop. Highly recommend.
