About the Hotel

Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

Simply Amazing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

When in Cusco, there is no better hotel to stay. The property is immaculate, and the location is perfect for both business and pleasure travel. The food is delicious, and the bar is gorgeous. Everything is walkable from the Monasterio. However, the best part of our stay was the staff. They were incredibly professional and attentive to every one of our needs. I cannot more highly recommend the Belmond Monasterio. We actually debated if we wanted to extend our stay. Alas, we back in Texas, but are looking forward to our next stay.

Monasterio as our entry to the Sacred Valley

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Awesome visit to the Monasterio as part of our visit to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Was beyond expectations on all accounts. The room was outstanding and comfortable, and the service was second to none. The history of the building and facilities was fascinating - do the art tour if you have a chance, especially the chapel.

Nice place center of town

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Real nice place right in the center of town. Very pleasant staff greeting customers and very helpful. We stayed twice once the room was a tad small, but all else very good. Second time very large room, but the AC was within the room and was very noisy. Open ed the window, but a lot of street noise.

A five star hotel that truly deserves all five stars

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We have experienced many 'five star' hotels around the world and, honestly, most should be four or at best 4.5. The Monasterio is an exception. Masterful service, elegant and understated surroundings and truly comfortable without the snooty attitude that sometimes comes with high end properties.

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.

We traveled to Peru and enjoyed stays at Miraflores Hotel in Lima, Hotel Monasterio in Cusco, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. I am highly satisfied and recommend these hotels without reservation.
