Built in the 1950s by Laurance Rockefeller, Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar started life as an exclusive getaway for presidents and Hollywood's elite. Situated on a secluded crescent of beach on Puerto Rico's northern coast, just 22 miles west of historic San Juan, its cachet is enhanced with the magnificent Spa del Sol and 4 golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The beautiful, airy accommodations include elegant casitas and offer ocean views from private balconies or patios. Spectacular dining ranges from the oceanfront Su Casa hacienda to the Zen Garden, serving fusion Chinese-Japanese.

Do NOT book here. If I could give zero stars I would, and we haven't even stayed there yet. I booked a reservation and then accidentally booked a duplicate reservation for the same time period. I immediately reached out and asked for them to cancel the duplicate. I've now spent hours on the phone, I've NEVER been able to reach anyone at the actual location of the hotel, and numerous members of management say that it's Hyatt's policy not to give any grace in this situation whatsoever, which is ridiculous. So I have to pay for a 4 night stay TWICE.

October 2024 My husband and I spent a week in Puerto Rico at the Hyatt Vacation Club in early Oct. We were so pleased with all aspects of this hotel/resort that I decided to write a review. This place has a real charm. We had a two bedroom on the fifth floor with a fully equipped kitchenette and a balcony with a most spectacular view of the ocean and the picturesque pool area. The room was spacious, super clean, the bed and pillows very comfortable. The suite was well fitted out with everything to make our stay perfect. Large kitchen, separate dining table, large bathroom with walk in shower. Two large flat screen TVs. I loved the lighting in the rooms and bathroom. Bright enough to apply my makeup and a long wall mirror for getting dressed. We were provided with lots of towels, beach towels, coffee, tea, laundry soap, etc. Yes, there is laundry facilities. It felt very homey and comfortable. The housekeeping staff should be acknowledged for keeping the different areas and rooms in top shape. The grounds and pool were well maintained from early morning to late night. As a guest you have access to abundant lounge chairs around the pool and beach areas and the friendly groundskeepers will provide and setup an umbrella for you on the beach. We were very comfortable approaching the friendly and helpful front desk staff. I regret not remembering the names of the front desk young ladies and the gentlemen. They were so helpful in answering my husband’s unending questions, to making suggestions on parking, to providing extra room keys. At other resorts we avoid the front desk because they are not as responsive to our needs. At the Hyatt Vacation Club, they could not do enough for you. Trust us, they will try their very best to make your visit a happy, positive one. When my husband told them it was our 40th anniversary, they provided us with chilled wine and treats in our room. A special thank you to the customer relations manager and staff. We also enjoyed the happy hour drinks and food at the beach bar/restaurant. We loved experiencing the culture and foods of the island since we had a rental car so we did not frequent the restaurant often to eat but we had great mojitos nightly and I know they offer local dining in a lovely restaurant overlooking the ocean and pool area. We will have fond memories of our stay at the Hyatt Vacation Club for years to come and cannot say enough about our stay. In fact we have booked once again to stay at this resort/hotel this March. Thank you to all, and especially to whoever assigned our room for us. Christine and Zandy K

The facility has ocean views for all rooms but you also have a view of a demolished building . It was disgusting. The pool was nice. The beach is small, dirty and dangerous. You take your life into your own hands here. The dogs roaming the beach were also disconcerting. The final nail in the coffin for this facility came when my husband and I were in the middle of a medical emergency. My husband had a head injury. It required 13 hours in an er the day before our departure. The head injury required 30 staples. He was badly banged up and not able to move much . We were to leave at 10 am. Hyatt refused to give us a 1 hour extension on our stay so that I could take care of him prior to departure. They showed no compassion, just sorry but get out. My husband was unable to care for himself. I needed the extra 1 hour to care for him. Here is the state of how we were. I had to cut off my husband’s bloody clothing, bath him, dress him, feed him get his prescriptions pack…Non of which he could do for himself. No compassion was shown by the staff just get out. . Medical emergencies require some exceptions to policies and require reasonable judgment. 1 hour extension could have been given to us but it wasn’t. The staffs response was inhuman and not acceptable.

Beautiful property. Great restaurant with lots of food for all meals. Nice kitchen and guest rooms. Pool is nice. Beach too. Definitely rent a car or use taxis to get supplies. Kind of boring as no water sports or anything to do. Some limited activities at the pool but maybe because we weee there during the low season.

This was paradise! Beautiful, clean, not crowded, and super friendly staff! The rooms were clean and the kitchen was fully stocked and organized. Parking is convenient, there are many activities available and the beach was amazing. There were plenty of seats and umbrellas. The restaurant was nice too!
