Reviews for The Scotsman Hotel

Should have been better.

We went for a Burns Night supper and it was very disappointing for the £68 per head. The meal was very slow to be served despite everyone having the same thing. The food was tasty enough but what I thought would be a haggis course (surely the main event at a burns night supper) was an amuse buche. I can now see this looking back at the menu but still disappointing. I had cheese rather than dessert and it was one thin slice of cheese with crackers. It was difficult to get drinks served, either they didn't have enough staff or it was poorly managed. The ceilidh dancing was fun but as complete beginners we found the caller could have been given better instruction. I had such high hopes for a night out the Scotsman hotel but it didn't live up to expectations.

Absolutely Perfect Wedding

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Where to start! My now wife and I got married at The Scotsman in December of 2024 and it couldn’t have been a more perfect experience. Emma Rose, the wedding coordinator, was absolutely fantastic and was very easy to get in touch with and had answers to any of our questions. The rest of the staff was also absolutely wonderful, especially Matthieu, one of the managers. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay and our wedding the best it could possibly be. Our ceremony in the Garden Suite was absolutely gorgeous and was the perfect size for our 50-person wedding. We then had our reception in the Fettercairn Suite which was also magnificent! The food for the event was absolutely delightful, especially the wedding buffet later in the evening. All of our guests had an absolutely wonderful time. The location of the Scotsman is also almost unbeatable, especially in December. Not only is it just off the Royal Mile so everyone could easily walk around the area, but it was also just across the train station (Waverly) from the Christmas market. If you’re considering The Scotsman for just a stay or a wedding, like us, we can’t recommend it enough. Edward and Louise

Go for the granola!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

This is a lovely hotel, full of nooks and cranies as befits a former newspaper office. The Grand Cafe is elegent with attentive staff, but the star of the show was the breakfast. I enjoyed the home made granola but there are the usual fry up items plus kippers and so on. Nicole is the breakfast manager and she and her staff were friendly and efficient. The weather was awful but the Scotsman were able to quickly accept us into one of their hogmany events when the official festivities were cancelled. We both look forward to returning in the future.

Great Experiece

Fantastic experience right from the start. We called and spoke with Tahsin, Duty Manager, who answered so very politely and helped me with making a reservation. Upon entering the lobby, we were greeted by the concierge, Paul, who assisted us with bags and settled us into a suite that was spotless, clean, updated and very comfortable. In addition to Tahsin and Paul, Nezdat was also very helpful and pleasant to be around. I must give a shout out to the housekeeping staff, as the hotel was very well maintained and our room was touched up each day. I recommend The Scotsman for any traveling to Edinburgh because of the professional staff services provided to us. Also, The Scotsman is fantastically located in walking distance to the fabulous sights and experiences of Edinburgh.

Misleading website & poor service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Booked a table in the grand cafe for dinner , website says eat 2 courses for £23 throughout January. Staf present said offer was not for that hotel even though I showed them it , chose a wine , they didn’t have it so chose another , chose a main course, they didn’t have it so choose another , only had 1 of that so had to choose another, asked for another glass of wine , received the wrong wine , had to take it back to the bar , asked for the bill and to discuss the offer on the website , said they couldn’t override the till , after politely pointing out what a disappointment the evening had been and that they should reduce the bill to reflect this , only then did she take something off the bill , the offer must have been on the website since beginning of January, we went on 21st January, still not bothered to sort it out . Will not return or recommend.
