La Valencia is beautiful. The valet staff was very friendly upon arrival. Then we met Ana at registration. She was a sweetheart. She’s knowledgeable, efficient, and seemed excited to have us arrive. The beds were super comfortable and the room was perfectly clean. We had brunch with Santa in the Mediterranean Room the following day. Wow, best Santa ever! Michelle was our server and treated us very well. She was thoughtful and attentive. We had a large party and ordered just about everything on the menu. Everyone’s food was delicious. The Christmas decor throughout the hotel was beautiful. Everyone in the restaurant, bar, lobby, and patio seemed to be enjoying the festive atmosphere. What a joy to visit the La Valencia! We can’t wait to go back.

La Valencia is a San Diego classic hotel that will never go out of style. The pool overlooks the ocean with a secluded hot tub just steps from the pool - perfect if you're visiting during the cooler winter months. I used ResortPass to enjoy a full day of relaxing at the pool without having to incur the cost of spending the night at the hotel when I have a friends place to stay in town. They offer pool towels, an outdoor bar, and top notch hospitality. Mike was so attentive at the pool and ensured I'll be coming back the next time I need a staycation! I recommend the Mate Maker Hard Kombucha for a poolside refreshment! xx

Let's start with the positives: * The hotel sits on an absolutely beautiful and convenient location * Some of the rooms have absolutely amazing views * Some of those rooms are old, but still decent * The staff of the hotel seems to be trying very hard Unfortunately all of this is far offset by the negatives--and today, this hotel is a disaster that you should STAY AWAY from, and is a complete ripoff at these prices. The bad: * I've stayed in four different rooms during my stays at this hotel. The first one I stayed was old, but serviceable. The next three were AWFUL: ** Plumbing that didn't work; ** AC unit that didn't work and/or made horrible noises; ** Broken, scratched and stained furniture ** One of the rooms smelled of feces ** The door to the bedroom didn't work * The spa didn't work and they weren't able to fix it during my entire stay. * The hotel seems to be a magnet for LOUD and DRUNKEN partiers that use rooms to party all night and then leave in the morning. * Many of the rooms face alleyways that are extremely loud from staff talking and working all night. * The restaurant is, like the rest of the hotel, in a gorgeous setting, but the food is subpar: my breakfast was often lukewarm; the "maple syrup" seemed to be Mrs. Butterworth's; the pastries tasted like they came from Walmart; the eggs Benedict was pretty decent but nothing special. All of this is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS at this price level. This hotel has five star rates and is a two star hotel at best. This hotel needs to be closed for six months while it gets a complete renovation and new top-level management (and a new chef). As it stands, this beautiful and historical location is now only usable as a teardown party pad for young revelers.

I surprised my partner with a staycation at La Valencia for his birthday instead of traveling somewhere. Since we live in San Diego we frequently visit La Jolla and have walked by this hotel many times. It was such a beautiful and fun place to stay! The staff were exceptional! The concierge offered a welcome champagne upon arrival and Nikki at the front desk greeted us when we arrived and was such a pleasure to chat with every time we saw her in the lobby. Mike at the pool bar made excellent drinks, was friendly and a wealth of knowledge about the area. The food at the pool and Mediterranean Room was delicious and fresh. We stayed in room 821 which was on a corner with exceptional ocean views of the cove! The room was clean, bed and pillows were comfortable and the architecture was beautiful. Definitely recommend La Valencia for a vacation or staycation!

Just had a great vacation! Loved La Valencia Hotel...so nostalgic and very well done! Our room was in the West Wing with two queen beds, down pillows and crisp hi thread count sheets; it was a completely refurbished room that still maintained it's history. The staff, from the moment we pulled up throughout the very end of our stay, was friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. The grounds were impeccable and in a perfect location...on one side is the ocean and the other the village. We would definitely stay there again!
