Umaya Resort Belize, formerly known as the Belize Ocean Club is a beautiful full-service deluxe resort located on a 78-mile peninsula in the southern part of Belize on Maya beach. The resort has rooms overlooking the peaceful lagoon and distant Mayan mountains or overlooking the blue Caribbean Sea. The first of the new dining options, The Clubhouse, is a farm to table restaurant facing the lagoon with sunset mountain views. It offers cuisine rooted in Mayan and Garifuna Belizeans traditions. FYAH, named from the local dialect for fire, presents food cooked over an open flame grill, with both deck and barefoot in the sand seating options for a selection of parrillada and tandoor food. With the largest living barrier reef off its shores, Umaya Resort & Adventures is putting a focus on diving experiences, including the creation of an onsite dive certification program. The management team has also created unique new excursions for adventure travelers both at sea and in the nearby jungles and Mayan ruins of Belize. In addition to the offsite excursions, Umaya Resort & Adventures launched a variety of weekly cultural and gastronomic events such as Beer &Curry Night, serving original Indian dishes prepared by Chef Subu from Chennai as well as Best of Belize, highlighting local Garifuna cuisine and music.

Attended a wedding, trip was fabulous. Worked with Alton, the concierge-he is the guy to go for EVERYTHING! Stayed in the two bedroom Oceanside suite, plenty of room for two grown daughters and ourselves. Cleaners came every day. Mercedes at the poolside bar was awesome, lots of good drinks and bar food. Enjoyed breakfast and lunch in the restaurant-dinner, not as much but lots of good places to go nearby. Alton will set you up with transportation. Would go back in a flash!

My daughter had her wedding there! It was absolutely beautiful!! Shout out to Anton at the activity desk for organizing all the excursions, and all the staff who made this a trip of a lifetime. The facilities were wonderful, the food and drinks were delicious and, all who attended (around 100 friends and family) had a fabulous time. We will definitely be back!

Love Umaya! From the moment we were welcomed, to our fabulous ocean front room and the great meals, bar, etc we loved Umaya. They made everything easy, from using the complimentary bikes and water toys, to renting golf carts and excursions. Highly recommend.

This was one of the worst experiences we have had with a hotel. None of the toilets in building 6 work due to plumbing issues, they wouldn’t flush. There was even an instance where one completely overflowed and the whole bathroom floor was filled with dirty toilet water and the hotel staff made it EXTREMELY difficult for us to change rooms, even went as far to say “we really can’t do anything about it”. We went for New Years and were told there was going to be a party. Apart from that we didn’t get anymore information, we ended up buying 8 tickets worth $25 each and were made to stand around as they didn’t have chairs for us, we had to look for them and moved them ourselves which was extremely uncomfortable. We were pretty much ignored the time we were in our makeshift sitting area (didn’t offer us a single thing). We ended up leaving after 30 minutes and asking for a refund which they refused. Overall it was a bad experience, the location and the room weren’t bad (apart from all the toilets in building 6) but the service was the thing that left us with a bad taste in our mouth.

An absolutely wonderful stay. We are a family of five and had one apartment with a huge balcony overlooking the lagoon and on to the Maya mountains. Even spotted a crocodile one day in the lagoon (at least we tell ourselves it was a croc!) Amazing view any time of the day! The apartment itself was spacious with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which made for a relaxed and comfortable stay! The staff at the hotel were super friendly snd welcoming! Especially the front desk! Beds were super comfortable!! Highly recommend this hotel. Much nicer than staying up in Maya Beach than Placencia town itself.
