First opened in 1930 and once owned by J. Paul Getty, The Pierre, is a beloved New York City institution. This stunning landmark resides on Central Park, just across from Fifth Avenue. From the trompe l'oeil that adorns elegant Café Pierre and an exemplary staff that speaks 35 languages, to elegantly appointed bedrooms and suites embellished with fine artifacts, each detail at this member of Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces is a tribute to understated elegance.

I wanted to love it again but I didn’t. I stayed here many, many years ago back when it wasn’t as old and run down, back when it was managed by Four Seasons. They were kind enough to accommodate my high-floor request and put me up on 39, which is the highest floor for regular guest rooms, and for that I was appreciative. But the whole place is not how I remember it. Most notably, for me is that this Hotel used to have the best water pressure in the shower. I was looking forward to that again, and instead, since they have since refurbed the showers, that beautiful feature is no longer. It was a complete stark contrast to what it used to be and also to where I was staying the 2 preceding nights of this NYC trip at the Langham down the street- which probably has the best water pressure of any Hotel I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime. The room itself was smaller than what some other five star hotels in New York City have these days and it definitely was showing that it’s been many years since the rooms and guest hallways were last redone. The Internet was horrendous and I was actually worried about this as I had read some other reviews about it here on this site. I have to do a lot of computer work when I’m in my hotel rooms- and it was really bad The guest hallway temperature was in the mid 80s according to the hallway thermostat; it was like a hot sauna- I wasn’t sure if it was just my floor (39) so I went down a couple to the 37th and it was the same thing, so their HVAC is all discombobulated. No coffee makers in the rooms however they do have morning lobby coffee- but this is not ideal. Some very nice staff members, and all the ladies operating the elevators were delightful. And I love the long narrow lobby and hallways, it’s just all so Grand. And the location is fantastic. Anyway, I spent 1400 bucks for one night in a small room and at least I got ‘returning here again’ out of my system, it was going to happen sooner or later and best that it happened when I was not with my spouse!

I have no idea what any negative reviews about this hotel are about. We just got back yesterday from a 5 day stay for my birthday at the Pierre, and to say it’s one of the best places we’ve stayed is an understatement! The beauty, the staff, the comfort the service, everything was A+. Everyone was overly kind, cheerful, remembered our names, asked how we were liking our stay etc.. the sweet ladies that worked the elevators would remember which floor we were staying on, and ask about our day and always had a smile on their face. We have stayed at BlackBerry multiple times, and many other 5 star hotels and this ranks up there as a top luxury hotel in US for sure. The concierge went above and beyond to book us places we wanted to go, and if it wasn’t available they would give incredible alternatives. We will be staying here every time we return to New York. Definitely get a high floor room overlooking Central Park, so beautiful to wake up to everyday. Bravo Pierre for an impeccable hotel and a wonderful experience!

We were there for 2 nights. We arrived very late on a Friday night. Saturday morning at 8 am our tv apparently reset (a known issue as it turns out) and woke us up. We were unable to fall back to sleep after this. The half-hearted apologies seemed insufficient for leaving us exhausted for the day. Other than that the hotel is fine. Very sedate... No services after 11. Room was adequate with small bathrooms.

One of the nicest places to stay in New York. Walk in to the hotel and you feel like you have walked into an oasis of warmth/grace. The rooms are extremely well appointed and the food to die for! The bar with the jazz band playing in the evenings transports you to another world after a full day of work.Highly recommend the hotel, Wyler coming to NYC for work or vacation.

We booked The Pierre for a special NYC weekend, and MOSTLY, were not disappointed. However, as a true NYC 5 star icon, I would have expected perfection at $1200/night. Check in was great, as was our large king room overlooking Central Park. Great view. Great bed, bathroom, etc. Second evening, no refreshing of Evian water, no replacement of second water glass. No rebundling of phone cables. No replacing used coffee cups. Again, all minor, BUT. Then at breakfast on the second day, it took almost 40 minutes to get our food and we had train to catch. Many others, seated before us, got their food (we had standard orders). And here’s the rub. After imploring the manager of the dining area to check on our food, we did not hear from him. Finally our food came, which was quite good, and our server took it off the bill. BUT, no apology for the delay. We all make mistakes, though the server was grousing that this happens not infrequently, where the cook just sidelines some orders. But no apology is simply unacceptable for a 5 star establishment. Not at $1200/night.
