The most amazing elegant, fantastic resort!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

If I could giver 100 stars I would! this hotel is a beautiful ,amazing Haven,The rooms are so comfy. I will never go anywhere else when I’m in that area ,and I would recommend it to everyone. it is one of the loveliest places I have stayed at, and besides it beauty, elegance, and amazing food I have to say the service of the front desk staff is incomparable, the staff goes above and beyond to help, their managers are also wonderful. When I visited there this time ,I had to go to the hospital with a family member who got ill. The balboa Bay resort was so accommodating and kind to me in every possible way, they even sent someone to drop my carry-on bag to me when I was at the hospital in Irvine' so I would not have to go back to Newport to pick it up , This is the kind of amazing compassionate people that work at the establishment. I wish I could travel to Newport Beach more often just to stay at the Balboa Bay resort! BRAVO and thank you Balboa Bay !

Maybe try something else

The hotel was nice, not top notch as I expected. As is the case with most hotels, they tack on valet $50.00 per night and so called resort fee $40.00 per night. Makes you feel like the airlines now, any way to squeeze more money out of you. Next they will charge for the air you breathe. The ceilings are thin, can hear thumping from the animals above. Bed was good. I will try something else next time. Happy New Year.

Horrible!

We booked a suite, room 238, for Friday 12/13 through Sunday 12/15 as part of our local staycation for the holidays. We have stayed at the Balboa Bay Resort previously (April 2021) and it was a great experience. The suite overlooks the bay with two patios to enjoy the boats and beautiful scenery. When we got to the room, we noticed several stains on the carpet and the furniture but said nothing about it. We ordered room service that night to enjoy dinner in our suite so we could watch the Christmas lit boats go by. What we didn't when booking this room is it is directly above where they booked holiday parties. People were outside, directly below our patio, until 1am and music was thumping so loud you could not hear yourself think. It was very loud, which prevented us from enjoying the patio or getting a decent night’s sleep. We got up at 7:30am the next morning to go have breakfast at A-O. We planned to go back to the room to shower and go out around Newport for the day. Apparently there was an issue with the hot water in the hotel so we had NO HOT WATER to shower on Saturday. I stood there for 15 minutes waiting for hot water that never came. I then grabbed a BBR robe out of the closet to wear while the engineer came to fix the hot water. The robe was stained with what appeared to be blood or ketchup. Never cleaned, and hung back up by staff as if it were in perfect condition for the next guest to use. We called down to the front desk to alert them about the hot water and they told us an engineer would be right up. They never came and we never heard back from anyone on this, so when we left for the day, I stopped at the front desk to speak to the manager. She apologized and offered to comp our room service dinner from the previous night ($115). Saturday night, we went to A-O for dinner and planned to enjoy the boats from our balcony after dinner. There was another party taking place that was even louder than the previous night. This went on for hours. I called down to the front desk at 10:15pm to let them know what was happening. They stated they would send security over right away and ask them to lower the music and noise as it was supposed to be over by 10pm. It went on for another 2 hours before it finally got quiet. I had set a time to speak to the manager the next morning about our experience and complete lack of enjoyment of our time there. I met with the manager Sunday morning and conveyed all that had happened during our time there. He took notes and expressed his apologies. I explained that I cannot justify paying over $1000 per night for a suite that we were not even able to enjoy. I asked that the room be comp'd and we would cover all meals, valet, duffy rental, etc. He said he would escalate this to his director and get back to me. What they offered is an additional $300 discount (in addition to the $115 meal they comp'd). The cost of the room for two nights was $2200. I travel all over the country for work and have stayed at countless other hotels & resorts that cost far less money that resulted in a much more positive experience. This has been an unfortunate experience that will guarantee we do not stay at this resort again or recommend it to friends, family, or colleagues.

Enjoyable Stay with a View

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

The Resort is large with beautiful common areas. All of the staff were welcoming. Our room was nicely done with a large bathroom. Beds were comfortable. We stayed in a top floor, bay view room (well worth it for views). We had a large private balcony that was enjoyable day and night. Room was plenty big for family of three. Restaurant was good, Wed night entertainers were fun. We used the coffee shop several times although the Nespresso machine was good too. Resort is convenient by car to many wonderful places on the coast. No stay is perfect, there seems to be some plumbing problems. The toilet needed fixing, there was a sewage smell in the bathroom and the shower did not always get hot. Maybe it was due to age of building. The only real inconvenience was getting out of self-serve parking. Key didn’t work and valet wasn’t always available. Not fun. Overall, we enjoyed the Balboa Bay Resort along with Newport Beach and would return.

Great hotel. Great location.

We stayed here for a week visiting relatives. We had a fantastic time. The hotel is in a great location on the waterfront. You can sit watching the expensive boats and the wealthy people walk past, and it feels like you could be in Monte Carlo. The Sunday brunch was a particular high point. I didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day. Everyone who served us was great. Room service was a little slow, and although I stipulated I wanted milk with my tea, it did not arrive. We were given rooms at the back of the hotel, which are best avoided if you can. They face the busy road, so are noisy 24/7. However our room was over the valet parking entrance, so we enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching the all the incredibly expensive sports cars arriving and being parked.
