Disappointed that a 3 bedroom suite with peak view’s daily rate had a refrigerator (our perishables went sour) not working and the front desk was aware prior to check in. The phone and internet were down too, which makes me question if this was premeditated to not call front desk? Discouraging week long trip at Montage…

I learned to ski in the stone ages: straight skis, long drives to the mountain, greasy spoon lodges at lunch and long lines. So it never fails to amaze me how the Montage smooths away all of the rough edges, leaving you only with the pleasurable aspects of skiing. (A) The location is perfect: one gets ski in/out to two chair lifts. (B) Compass Sports, the on-property rental shop offers an astounding range of equipment –e.g., Kastle skis– with expert boot fitters (all of whom seem to Kiwis). They also warm your boots over night and have staff available to help you put them on and take them off. (C) The restaurants all offer hearty, high quality food. Service can be a little jittery at the beginning of the season as the serving team settles in, but the food is always terrific. However, more healthy options would be welcome. As to the hotel itself, it’s sort of the ultimate in the large, North American experiences. We’ve stayed at comparable Four Seasons, Fairmonts and the Stein Eriksen. We find the Montage to offer the best overall experience. The basic rooms are very comfortable and appropriate for managing ski gear. The suites are even more comfortable. The presence of a full gym, lap pool, and spa make non-skiing hours highly pleasurable. And the service is exemplary, particularly under the leadership of Sean, the hotel general manager who joined a little over a year ago. The only downside is the price. You pay top dollar. You also receive a lot of bang for your buck. We’ve made multiple visits to the property already and look forward to many more in the future.

Montage Deer Valley was overall a big disappointment . This was a special occasion so we decided to go for luxury. To be honest, it was basically "expensive" and not luxury, or maybe my idea of luxury is different than others. Here is the list of pros and cons.... Pros 1. Beautiful property 2. Spacious suite (although that came at a price) 3. Shuttle to & from town (which you need !) 4. Shuttle drivers were the best employees at the property.. very friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable. 5. Lovely live music & ambience in the lounge area in the evenings. Cons 1. Room: heat system was weird.. constantly blowing and never could get temperature to adjust. 2. No coffee maker... just an espresso machine that didn't really work very well and also tasted terrible. Also, no microwave. Just a small fridge. 3. Concierge mailed brochure that said "free coffee" in Vista lounge from 6-8am, and went to get some & they said that was wrong it was 5-7am (who is getting up at that hour for free coffee on vacation?). Told me I could buy it at the coffee shop , which I did and it was terrible and then the worker asked for a tip saying " can you help a girl out?" Also, coffee shop closes at 2pm, so if you want coffee after 2pm you are out of luck. I feel like having complimentary coffee in the lounge area for guests all day is a no-brainer, especially in cold weather. 4. First night we went to Burgers & Bourbon for dinner. We ordered cocktails ... I ordered a margarita & the waitress asked what kind of tequila I wanted in my drink & then recommended one. It was ok.. nothing special... when the bill came it was $65.00 (she failed to tell me that the tequila she recommended was "something special." Seriously... it what world was I in? I had the chili and it was very salty so I only ate about 1/3 of it. My husband had a burger and he said it was good, but nothing special. 5. Second day I had altitude sickness pretty badly..... several employees kept encouraging me to order the "altitude tea," and how well it worked. So I finally called room service and ordered it. 15 minutes later they called and told me they were out of it. geez 6. Same day I ordered chicken noodle soup from room service. It was meh & $34 including the tip. 7. Basically, we had to go off property to get an interesting meal that wasn't completely overpriced for what it was. (I highly suggest dinner at Chimayo on Main St.) 8. You have to valet park.. no option to park yourself & they charge $50 a day for valet. We came and went a fair amount so that was annoying and tipping gets old when you don't have an option to do it yourself. 9. Fees: Just be aware that fees are costly... in addition to our room we paid $200 a day in additional fees and taxes. Just fyi 10. Apparently dogs can stay at this "luxury" hotel. There were a few dogs near our suite and they would bark off & on, day & night. (I love dogs, but really?) Maybe none of this would have bothered us so much if we hadn't searched for the perfect place for a special occasion and looked forward to it. We are more than willing to spend the money on a special place, but sadly this place doesn't live up to all the hype. Also, Montage has yet to send me a survey to review my visit, so that is why I came to Tripadvisor. Long story short...... I do not recommend Montage Deer Valley.

I was hoping to find a new place to take my family that was easy to get to and fun for everyone. This is exactly what I was looking for. Montage Deer Valley nailed every single aspect of what a family vacation should be. It’s beautiful and pampering and has a spa that my wife plans on using a lot in the future. We didn’t get the opportunity to ski this year, but the access to the mountain is perfect. There are multiple food options and all of them have kid menus. There’s an arcade/bowling alley that has kids of all ages excited. I can’t wait til my kid is 6 and can take advantage of all of the great kids club activities they have available. But even at 4yo she loved it and felt like a princess with all of the attention she got. We will be back.

The Montage does not disappoint. From the staff at the desk, to their events team and the bell team, everyone is so kind and always takes their time when assisting. Each room's view is incredible, not to mention the cozy fireplaces in the lobby. The property is stunning in the fall and I cannot wait to go back.
