Reviews for The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club

Upscale resort consistently delivers what it promises

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This Westin does the brand credit - it is well managed delivering consistently and without fuss or drama. It is set close to Punta Cana airport but is part of a large complex that also means it is within an exclusive natural area that also has golf courses and private residences, not that you would know as the resort is nestled in lush forest and is very quiet. Sleep quality was excellent. The grounds are well maintained and groomed, housekeeping runs efficiently and effectively with our room well serviced and cleaned daily. Speaking of the room we had 3 of us - 2 adults and a 9 year old in a separate small bed that did not crowd the generously sized room that had plenty of storage areas, closets, tables, mirrors etc. The Large bathroom had a double sink and large walk in shower with good water temperature, pressure and flow. We were very comfortable. The photo is from our well proportioned room balcony. The pool is large and subdivided into various depths to suit a range of ages - to reinforce this point this is a great family resort. By the pool is a bar and small lunch area with poolside service and the staff were always pleasant and accommodating with a relaxed vibe, not the quickest but everything gets done and if you want snappy service the DR is not for you - it gets done at a pace that reflects the vibe of where you are: Relax.... My only critiques of the pool are that it could have been warmer, but it is very large and this time of year lows are @70, it would cost a fortune to keep it warm , also the loungers (of which there are plenty) do not have toppers but are reasonably comfortable with a towel. There are 4 restaurants on site, a breakfast only buffet place (that manages the wave of hungry folks every morning very well considering) a beach side bar and restaurant, and 2 upscale restaurants that are very good and deliver at a level well above what I expected. There is also a lobby bar that can get busy early evening. Due to the location of the hotel (it is too far to walk anywhere) we rented a car and took some trips to local shops and restaurants as well as a couple further afield. Driving here is perfectly fine but always drive defensively, just because you feel a car is on a yield sign don't expect it to actually yield..... The beach is world class - there's a reef off shore that results in minimal waves and has a shallow drop off - kids of almost any age will enjoy it, the water is clear and warm (for ocean). There is also a kids club with small play area. The staff are very pleasant, accommodating and will do anything you want, just ask! In summary we enjoyed our 11 days here and would recommend this resort unconditionally.

Arena Beach Club!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This review specifically is for Arena Beach Club at the Westin Punta Cana. We absolutely love coming here because we feel like we’re dining among family. Tonight was no different! We are hosting our wedding and most of of our activities will take place at the Westin. Raquel was absolutely amazing! She was thoughtful, attentive and such a pleasure to work with and made our experience unforgettable! Thank you so much Raquel for your hospitality! We are counting down the days to have our family experience the outstanding service at the Westin. Especially because of people like Raquel!

Thank you to the awesome staff at the Westin!

We were renting a villa in Punta Cana Resort through AirBnb and last night around 12:30 am (our 2nd night there) one of the outlets started sparking and smoking (electrical fire smell). We were advised by the resort security to vacate the premises because it was not safe. We went over to the Westin and Eddy helped us find three rooms. We then had issues with the golf cart we rented from the owner of the villa and Eddy came and got us from the house at 3:00 am. This morning Pedro also went above and beyond by going to the villa we stayed in and picking up sneakers we left behind. The room was very nice as are the facilities and all the staff. We had breakfast here this morning and lunch here at the hotel yesterday and hung out at the beach which is also beautiful. Oh, and we ate at Bao and Brassa each of the two nights in Punta Cana. Both were wonderful!!

Decent if money is no object

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Like many others, we stayed here one night because of a cancelled flight. Check in was relatively easy. We were told we would have a 200.00 credit on our room, which never happened. Couldn’t find anyone to help with luggage or show us where our room was so we just went on our own. The grounds are beautiful and the bed was comfortable. The room was average at best but clean. I personally would not stay here again because the prices of food and drinks, random fees, added gratuities and taxes sure do add up. We were there less than 24 hours, ate 2 meals, had 8 waters and paid 739.00. I tried calling 3 times to see if they could add on a few hours because of more flight delays the next day and could not get anyone to help (they were too busy to help me, so they said). They also didn’t inform us that they had free shuttle service to the airport so that was an extra 20.00. I do have to say the food we ate was good, not great but good. We were at another resort that was all inclusive for 10 days prior and the food was much better, the room was 100 times nicer and we certainly got so much more for our money. Sadly I think they could do better and it’s not a place I would return to.

Highly recommended for facilities, staff, and the food

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Highly recommend the Westin. We chose it because it was one of the only hotels we could find which was not all-inclusive, yet looked like it had a great beach, pool etc. The facilities are in great shape. Everything was in top working order, including the shared spaces like the lobby, very large pool area, giant super hot hot-tub, and of course the rooms, beds, dressers etc. The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate. A shout out to Ramon, our server at both the beach and the beach-side restaurant. Many of the other hotels I read about had very mixed reviews of staff, but I can say that the staff here at the Westin were all very warm and attentive. Nice job team! The beach is super clean (aka maintained). We were here during the Xmas holidays high season and there was no issue securing beach chairs at any time of the day. Sometimes even the couch + overhead shade structure setups were available. All were available as part of hotel, no additional costs etc. Makes it really nice to not be nickel and dimed. We ate at the Asian restaurant (Bao) as well as 2x at the Arena beach restaurant. Food at both was excellent, but the vibe, sea views, interior design, lighting – well, Arena has it all. A great place to have lunch or happy hour as well. In summary, this hotel isn’t inexpensive. But worth every penny if its in your budget. Comparable hotels IMHO in other parts of the world would be the Grand Hyatt in Kauai or the Andaz in Maui. I don’t say this often, but I’d definitely be back.
