Why stay at a hotel when you can stay at a legend? Combining historic, Renaissance-influenced architectural splendor that includes an opulent lobby, sky-high ceilings and a sweeping staircase begging for grand entrances, Kimpton Sir Francis Drake is where vintage glamour and the ideal Union Square location intersect.

I love this hotel and the bar. This was my second stay. The lobby is attractive and the staff are nice. I walked to Chinatown and North Beach.

Great stay with family and friends. The beds were top notch. Included breakfast was delicious. In room coffee hit the spot.

Beacon Grand, the old Sir Francis Drake, is a beautifully restored hotel right off Union Square in San Francisco. Having stayed at the prior hotel a number of times through the years, I wasn't sure what to expect on our recent stay. A wonderful surprise! Renovations don't always mean better with hotels; this IS the exception. Rooms are well appointed, elegant minimalist decor with stylish touch points in the room and bathrooms. Water fill stations are throughout the hotel, on each floor - great touch! From the majestic entryway, up the stairs to the Lobby, history has been protected and polished. We enjoyed cocktails at the bar. CJ was our bartender and nailed each cocktail perfectly. The menu in POST was creative, local focuses and beautifully executed. We walked to breakfast across the street at SEARS Fine Foods, a SF tradition for 18 Swedish pancakes and enjoyed tooling around Union Square the night before. A lovely stay...we will be back, Beacon Grand!

The Beacon Grand is a lovely property…formerly the Sir Francis Drake. The hotel is less than one block to Union Square and adjacent to a cable car stop. The Beacon Grand Suite has a lovely terrace which is a rare treat in the city. The staff are friendly and eager to help. Michael on the phones, Angelo at the door, and Dan at bell desk were all very welcoming. I can highly recommend staying here.
