Why stay at a hotel when you can stay at a legend? Combining historic, Renaissance-influenced architectural splendor that includes an opulent lobby, sky-high ceilings and a sweeping staircase begging for grand entrances, Kimpton Sir Francis Drake is where vintage glamour and the ideal Union Square location intersect.

Our stay was absolutely fabulous from start to finish! The hotel itself was beyond expectations — absolutely gorgeous. Our room was the perfect size, beautifully appointed, and so comfortable. Everything about our stay was above and beyond, and we will definitely be back! A special shoutout to the lady who checked us in on Thursday afternoon (11/6) — she was THE BEST. So kind and welcoming from the moment we arrived. I mentioned that I have anxiety and panic attacks and prefer to avoid elevators after being stuck in one before. She was so understanding and empathetic, even trying to find us a room on a lower floor. When that wasn’t possible, she went out of her way to make me feel at ease, reassuring me that everyone has their own anxieties and that she completely understood. And then — to top it off — she brought us four drink vouchers for the bar as a kind gesture since she couldn’t move our room. What incredible customer service! Experiences like this are rare, and her thoughtfulness truly made our stay unforgettable.

Didn't have the best experience. The basics were there, but I expected a 4 star experience at a 4 star hotel. The fridge was empty, the toilet paper holder kept falling off the wall, the shower water pressure was really lackluster, and there was a low and shrill squeaking noise. Disappointing overall, so will probably find another hotel for future SF trips

Not worth the price. I paid more than several teammates who received larger, nicer rooms, which was disappointing. My room felt like a quick “landlord special” update, with thick layers of paint over everything. The shower was poorly designed—water ran down the glass and out onto the bathroom floor, leaving the bath mat completely soaked after every shower, not just damp. On a positive note, the staff were all friendly, professional, and very helpful. No issues there at all—just wish the room quality matched the price point.

The Beacon Grand is in the heart of Union Square, close to restaurants, shopping, the cable cars, Chinatown. The theater district is also very close by. This is a safe area and I felt comfortable as a solo traveler walking around. The hotel itself is gracious and lovely, and the staff were extremely helpful and kind. Everything is clean and updated. It really gives you the feel of a grand Hotel. I would recommend this to friends and I will definitely stay there again.

Alex (valet/bellman) was awesome! Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and prompt. Would stay here again just based on the first impression he gave.
