Reviews for Loews Ventana Canyon Resort

Beautiful resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Resort with two pools, beautiful grounds and friendly staff. Rooms are clean even though the ambiance is dated. Bed was a bit soft for my taste. We had breakfast included and food was mediocre. Coffee shop was good. Lobby bar had slow service on our one night checking it out. Despite all this, we enjoyed our stay and the grounds were lovely, heated pools and great workout area. The golf course looked very nice as well. Need a car to drive anywhere as all was too far to walk. There is an additional resort fee for each night.

Beautiful resort and great amenities

Absolutely beautiful! First time staying here and at a Loews. Came across the brand when in Miami Beach and thought the hotel looked great so I was excited to see Tucson had one. What a beautiful property, the friendliest staff, and now is one of my favorite resorts in the country. The room is gorgeous, the gym is fully stocked and well equiped, the pools are great and heated. The trails on the grounds are awesome. We will definitely return again and so glad we tried something new!

Overall still restores our Souls

Love the location and the new updates to the decor !! Majority of the staff is excellent!! Friendly atmosphere and relaxed environment. Fitness center is excellent, and I learned you can play tennis or pickle ball included in your resort fee. Golf course is fun and well groomed. Proximity to Sabino Canyon is a huge plus if you enjoy hiking!! We walked the Canyon twice and played golf one day. The Flying V has a new chef and his food was delicious!! Bottom line: my wife and I have enjoyed the Loews for decades!! It is a wonderful place to restore your heart and soul in the beautiful desert foothills!!

Renovated rooms

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Been going here for years and have always enjoyed our stay but this time was different. The renovation they did is terrible. I agree with the previous review that the renovation choices are awful and whoever was the interior decorator/designer needs to be fired. Bile colored green and burnt orange colors aren’t my thing.

Recommend staying elsewhere

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We have stayed at the Loews Ventana Canyon several times in the last 20 years. After this experience, we will not be going back. We chose to stay here for our anniversary and booked a Saguaro King Suite. We arrived around check-in time (4:00 PM) having checked in online assuming we could go to our room and use our phone as a key as at other hotels. Nope, had to wait in a line of more than 15 people. When we finally reached the front desk, they acknowledged we had checked in online and found a key card for us (even though I used the app to request it, the phone never worked to access the room). Not sure why this hotel recommends using the app to check-in and yet it provides no advantage over just showing up and standing in line. That was a common theme this time. They advertise the use of all this technology but they are not prepared to support the technology. We went to our room which looked like it had been recently remodeled so that part was nice (hence 2 stars, not 1 star). That evening we tried to use the WiFI but the signal was so weak that we could not access with any of our 4 devices. They have a chat service so I used that to ask about WiFi. They directed me to a 1-800 service so I spent at least 30 minutes on the phone with their IT person in California who finally admitted they could not help and gave me a ticket number and punted it up the chain. Eventually was able to get a strong enough WiFI to connect but it would connect for 10 min and then fade out. It was worse at night than day. Got a callback the next day about the ticket but they cannot fix a weak WIFI signal from California. Put up with barely working WiFI for remainder of visit (note that we could access WiFI just fine everywhere else in hotel). The first night, we decided to order room service for the following morning. All the literature said to use the online system through your cellphone to access the menu and order. So we went thru that process. When order was entered and we clicked "Submit", we got an error. Repeated tries gave the same error. Tried the chat service and they said there should be a paper menu in the room and to fill out and hang on the door OR to call Star Service on our room phone. Our room phone had no such button so I called front desk (there were no paper menus in the room). The front desk connected me to someone who professed to be room service. That person tried to enter our order and after 10 minutes finally admitted they could not enter the order and recommended we use a paper menu. I told them we did not have any paper menus in the room and they said they would send some right up. At this point, we had been trying to order breakfast for 45 min and it was midnight so we gave up and made other plans. The next morning about 8 AM, paper menus were provided to us by Housekeeping. The manager tried to make amends by not charging us the resort fee for just one night. However the WiFI was terrible the whole stay so we paid for this "Premium WiFI" for the rest of the stay. We dined in their Canyon Club for breakfast the final morning. The menu selection was very limited and not very impressive. They had a buffet but the selections were limited as well. Strange that if we had used the paper menu in the room, we had a much larger selection of breakfast choices then they had in the restaurant. Overall, was not impressed. They advocate all of this technology and online support but they are not ready for it. We will stay elsewhere in the future after this experience.
