The latest addition to the capital city, AX The Saint John, a boutique accommodation was once a former merchant’s residence and shop. It has now been elegantly converted to provide an intriguing and hospitable setting. The building has been revamped to showcase its architectural features. While the furnishings might still have an industrial feel, it still provides warmth and style with a strong focus on guest comfort. The natural light from the central courtyard makes the entrance welcoming. The property provides the latest technology for guests to enjoy the comfort and facilities needed and expected by the modern traveler.

We were welcomed at the reception of this beautiful boutique hotel with a lovely cold glass of Prosecco. Perfect! The hotel is set right in the heart of Valletta. The location is fantastic and although on a busy street, we did not hear any outside noise from our room. It is easy walking distance of Valletta’s attractions, as well as the bus station and ferry port for Gozo. The room had all the amenities we required including a fridge, kettle and coffee maker. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and modern. All staff we met were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is amazing with a great choice of hot drinks, juices, fruits, meats, cheeses, pastries and eggs cooked to your liking. All served to you at your table by friendly, attentive staff. Thanks for a great stay.

I have just returned from a five night break at the St John Hotel and had a wonderful time. The hotel is a twenty minute drive from the airport and is centrally located in Valletta, close to the main tourist attractions, with a short walk to the ferries for access to Gozo, three cities etc. What an experience!! From entering the hotel the welcome was genuinely friendly and warm. Rose and Amal made a fantastic first impression, explaining the facilities and services available. Amal took us to our room and, if possible, ask for 302. On the third floor overlooking the street with a balcony. The balcony allowed us to enjoy witnessing the festival of St Dominic that was taking place nearby and soak up the atmosphere. The room and en suite are immaculate and helped to make our stay relaxing and comfortable. A shout out to Arun for servicing the room! Breakfast, like check in, is at the Rosselli, a two minute walk away. Breakfast is superb. Lovely continental breakfast served on a three tier cake stand, plus great coffee, choice of eggs etc. What made the breakfast experience a memorable one is the staff, they are so welcoming, professional and accommodating. The service provided is superb and really made a positive impression on us. The Rosselli has a bar and pool area on the roof which was welcomed for the views and a cold drink as it was very hot during our stay. We called in to the Cheeky Monkey Gastropub, part of the hotel’s food and beverage outlets. We only had drinks but the food being served to other customers looked really good. Again the key attraction here are the staff. Sandra and her colleagues made us feel so welcome. Well done to the management of the AX group, you have superb properties, however, the real assets are the staff for their professionalism and genuine warmth. This surely gives the hotel a competitive advantage and I, for sure, will opt to stay at the St John when in Valletta.

The staff are exceptional & run this hotel with pride and an abundance of kindness …we stayed for a week a it was our honeymoon, our room itself we were disappointed with very retro and suitable for a buisness stay, but not a relaxing room it had no natural light which we found depressing and only one single wardrobe and 2 drawers for clothes it was very impractical and when in the room we had to have all the lights on as it was so dark the only window looking out onto the hallway on the first floor, it was not a cheap holiday so all in all we were upset when we saw our room & the noise not always a negative impart but it was on some occasion, we didn’t go for breakfast as wanted to explore different places but also never realised we would have to go 2 buildings down to have breakfast ..to the sister hotel… we would not return it is a lovely hotel with lovely staff but sadly it’s not for us

The St John Ax is a very central hotel located in a beautiful traditional Maltese building. We were greeted with Prosecco and given lots of information about Malta and recommended restaurants to try from the very knowledgeable Amal and Rose. We were in room 101 (front of hotel). Huge traditional beamed ceilings, original tiles and a Maltese balcony. Massive bedroom area, large modern bathroom and a huge entrance area with seating. It was superb. We did not have any noise issues at all. It was cleaned immaculately daily by Arun who was so lovely. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Damanpreet and Rohit met us with a smile every morning for breakfast. The breakfast team (Marie and Maridol too ) are a credit to Katho the Supervisor. The roof terrace was fabulous with loungers, seating areas, bar and plunge pool with views to the sea. Would highly recommend this hotel for its style, service, staff and location.
