Reviews for The Grand York

Friendly, Professional Staff make this a great hotel.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

The staff make the difference here - excellent and friendly atmosphere. Hotel was clean and well run. - nothing was too much effort and always done with a smile. Overall the experience would make me want to visit again. If i had any complaint it would be the spa - its a bit cramped and tired. There are better spas if that is the reason for your stay but if you are looking for a great based for a visit to York or an all round great stay then I would definitely recommend the Grand.

Beautiful city centre hotel

Superb quality hotel. We spent the night in room 256 which is in the newer side of the hotel, the room was spacious, comfy, very quiet, poor shower pressure though. There were robes provided which we used to visit the amazing spa. Very relaxing and clean, with warm pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. The breakfast was superb, with an al-a -carte included menu and a substantial quality buffet. The bar is beautiful, wide range of drinks and lovely staff. The ambience of the whole hotel, from the doormen to the room, is very good. The location is second to none, a 2 minute walk to town. Highly recommended.

A lot is 5 star - except for the IT/TV

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

5 star service from staff. 5 stars for the impressive rooms - generous size, especially the bathroom, and Nespresso coffee maker ("old" style capsules).as well as as kettle and limited supplies (no Early Grey tea). BUT ONLY 2 STARS FOR THE Very dissapoiningly, the IT services which are surprisingly poor, with: - old style usb charging points - no Smart opportunities with TV, ie NO Netflix, NO BBC iPlayer, etc, and - NO way to connect own gizmos to the TV via screen mirroring/casting. So much is clearly 5 star about this hotel and our room almost met this high standard with much (everything?) new in the room. The 3 star rating for the room reflects the poor quality of the TV/IT services which have yet to be brought properly into the digital age. The IT/TV could and should be so much better - not necessarily a full streaming services but at least to provide an opportunity for customers' to play their own media and/or connect their own gizmos. Poor show!

Excellent all the way around!

This is a beautiful, classy hotel with excellent, personalized customer service and gorgeous accommodations. We paid far less for a very spacious, beautiful room at The Grand York than our medicore, cramped accommodations at a Hilton hotel in London. Location is also perfect. We arrived in York by train and only had a five-minute walk to the hotel. We walked everywhere we went during our time there. Restaurant and food at the hotel was also top-notch. You won't regret staying at this hotel if your vacation plans include a trip to York.
