Beautiful Views, Very Overpriced For Level Of Service And Amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

The views are lovely, but it's very overpriced for the level of service and amenities on offer. Some thoughts: 1. It's very understaffed. We sat in the dining room for almost 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The service was fine once it happened, but it was clear that there just weren't enough staff on hand. The concierge at the front desk (Duck) was very helpful, but he really was the only one. They're charging Four Seasons prices with Motel 8 service. (Although, the staff in the spa were great). 2. The rooms are nice, but you can absolutely hear the people in the room next to you. Very little soundproofing, so do bring earplugs. 3. A lot of the property appeared to be in disrepair - peeled and faded paint, open trash/debris, etc. Again, they're charging premium prices, but it's not being kept-up and maintained like a premium property. 4. Considering they're automatically charging you a "resort fee" of $35 dollars a day, which includes breakfast, it's a little odd that the breakfast never included any meat. I'm not even that big a meat eater, but it seemed like a very purposeful choice by management to save on their costs. Again, this would not be a practice of a true premium property. 5. The bar wasn't open most nights we were there, so if you want a nightcap, you have to leave the property. That's frustrating.

Our room was a large studio with a balcony looking out to the ocean. It was furnished in all white...comfy and stylish. The resort is directly on the coast and the views from the path on the property are breathtaking. The breakfast the next morning was delicious...homemade blueberry muffins, granola (with toasted coconut!) and eggs, etc. We both agreed that we would definitely go back to stay at the resort again.

Heritage is AWESOME & So is Duck at the Front Desk!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

Me and my wife have stayed at Heritage many times before but nothing will match the experience we had this time. In the past we’ve met many front desk/concierge folks who just didn’t rise to the level of service we would expect from such an esteemed resort such as Heritage however this time was MUCH different! When we arrived Daniel AKA “Duck” was working the front desk and he immediately gave us a warm welcome. I told him we had a very long trip and as a result lost my ATM card and was unable to provide him a physical card for payment. Duck was extremely patient and understanding of our situation. He took care of us by making accommodations and allowed us to use ApplePay. THIS is what service is all about folks! To take it even further, Duck provided us a few small upgrades to our room which he did not have to do and we are so appreciative of him for doing this. He then made some GREAT suggestions for restaurants we could go to get a quick bite to eat (Patterson Pub!) which was UH-MAZING!! And then to top it off he helped us navigate to our room which was a little confusing at first but his directions were GREAT! Duck single handily made this experience what it was and I HIGHLY encourage the resort to give this man a raise AND a promotion! Thank you Duck & Thank you Heritage! We will be back! 🙏🙏

An average experience that turned poor.

I really wanted to like this place but everything just felt underwhelming and my recent experience with their staff dropped my opinion into the negative. There would always be positive things counter balanced by a negative. Some examples below: The location is great. The view is impressive depending on the angle but getting around inside the “resort” is rough. Once you’re actually on site the poor signage with blind turns makes it difficult to navigate at night so make sure you arrive during the day and if you have bad knees make sure to get a room by the restaurant otherwise you’re driving back and forth. So far mostly positive. Rooms. The rooms themselves are old with some modern touches. Too few outlets for chargers and lack of AC or Fans of any kind make it stuffy and hot during the day. None of our windows had screens or opened easily so we had to open our door to get fresh air in the cool off the room. But that also lacked a screen so bugs were a constant problem. Eventually we got this fixed when housekeeping gave us a fan but I had to ask for one. It’s in the 90s folks. Think ahead. So yeah our first night there was horrible and hot. We almost left the next morning. Now we’re in the negative. Food options. The food was ok at best. Boring at best. Undercooked at worst. One breakfast the savory biscuits were undercooked and a health hazard. The dinner options were fine if generic. Too few options if you’re staying for more than two days. They didn’t serve lunch. The bar was fine and the drinks were decent enough. Net neutral here. Spa and fitness center. They existed. That’s about all I’ll say. Nothing special. The massage was ok. Not worth the price when compared to other places. Net neutral again. Room Service. Didn’t exist. Take it for what it is. House keeping. I saw them around but they never came to our room even when I called and requested it. Later in the evening when we returned to our room we were told “sorry” and that was it. So definitely negative here. Staff. This is a mixed bag. Some of the folks were good. The bartender and waitress we saw each time we visited the restaurant were great. The receptionist fine. The maintenance guy was great. The folks working the breakfast buffet made me worried about basic food handling best practices. Neutral to negative. Now what really shifted my opinion to neutral or average to less than was after I left. So dumb of me but I left a nice shirt in my room next to the ironing board. When I got home the next day I called them and asked them to send it out when they had a chance. Since I have eyes and a decent memory I told the person exactly where it was. They told me they would leave a note in their system and talk to housekeeping and call me back. I never got a call so I follows up. Different person. Same conversation. This second person didn’t see the note in the system but said they would call them to find out what was going on and call me back. Never got a call. I called them again the next day. The line was disconnected or something. Got a generic automated telecom message. So now I just emailed them. Turns out emailing folks does work but the response I got was some akin to “we called and told you the shirt wasn’t found in laundry. We’ll keep looking” no one ever called me and why would a missing shirt be in laundry instead of lost and found? At this point I stopped caring about the shirt and was irritated about the lack of honesty on display here. Multiple emails since with no response. I asked that the manager call me and no response. So here’s my takeaway. It wasn’t an easy recommendation before the missing shirt issues and it’s not a negative experience for me because of the shirt issues.

We stayed here the 4th of July weekend and had such a good time. We are local and it was a wonderful staycation. It was our first time in Mendocino and I can’t wait to go back! With beautiful beaches, hiking, scenery and wineries in Anderson Valley, this will be a place we gladly return to!

My husband and I just spent a long weekend at Heritage House and had a wonderful time. The views are amazing, and the newly renovated rooms are beautiful and comfortable. We would definitely recommend it.
