Bright and open rooms are spacious and breezy, with gleaming tiled floors, pure white walls, and vivid colorful accents - all tied in to the rich wood décor and furniture. Brilliant natural light streams in through large sliding glass doors, while the views from private garden terraces will truly take your breath away.

We stayed at Xandari for 2 nights after arriving in Costa Rica, and it was a welcome haven after our long flight. After checking in and being presented with a refreshing glass of fresh juice, we were shown to our villa. The villa was lovely and spacious and had a balcony which gave a brilliant view over plants and trees with San Jose glinting in the distance. We loved our position as we had a tree right outside which many birds came to. The inside of the villa was decorated with unique local art which would have been in danger of coming home with us if our suitcases were bigger! We did buy some small wooden birds from the gift shop though (best gift shop in all 5 hotels we stayed at during our trip). Breakfast was excellent. We tried the Costa Rican gallo pinto which was delicious. The waitress suggested we try some local cheese with it which worked really well! We then spent most of the day just exploring the beautiful grounds and checking out the waterfalls. Dinner in the evening was very tasty. The prices were expensive but not the highest we came across in Costa Rica - this is not a cheap country to visit! Overnight do note there is no air conditioning. We didn’t find this was an issue though as the ceiling fans did a good job. Some people may have an issue with the planes flying overhead but we knew about this before we visited so expected it and again didn’t find it a problem. Being so close to San Jose it’s inevitable. We mentioned we had an early pick up in the morning so they suggested a packed breakfast. We picked this up the next day and it had been put together with great care and was very generous and tasty. The waitress even remembered how I take my coffee and put one in a travel cup for me. I unfortunately can’t remember the name of the lady on reception but she was so kind and friendly. Always had an exuberant smile and full of cheer, she really made us feel special and looked after. I’d thoroughly recommend Xandari. I think if we stayed any longer we would have been at a bit of a loss what to do, but for the time we had it was perfect.

Excellent couples massage hot tub combo. The place was beautiful with an incredible view to San Jose below. We had 90 min deep tissue massages. Lisbeth and Irene were amazing . Went deep, then softened before exploring more. We recommend them totally! Hot tub after, fruit, juice, and a small glass of wine following was perfect Thanx Irene and Lisbeth!

From the moment we checked in after a long flight from the Uk we loved everything about this hotel. The artwork and colourful mosaics are so lovely and the design of the villas with arched ceilings and even a stained glass window in the room is very pleasing. Just walking along the pathways is a pleasure as the plants and flowers, combined with the sound of birdsong is so peaceful. The staff are uniformly friendly and helpful. Though we were only here for 2 nights we were able to visit the Doka coffee plantation (pre booked), walk though the hotels extensive and beautiful grounds (don’t miss the Botanic garden and the Bamboo forest). We trekked down and then up to the waterfalls, and relaxed at the Sunset pool. This pool is heated and the view is amazing. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the views spectacular. Well done to everyone at Zandari.

Just had fantastic massage by Irene. Best massage I’ve had in a long time ! Resort is very peaceful sitting amidst beautiful gardens Very convenient to San Jose when coming in on flights before travelling throughout the rest of the country Built by architect and his artist wife. Buildings painted in primary colours which might not be to everyone’s liking but the gardens more than make up for any that you may have like this.

We love Xandari. You have the perfect combination of elegance and comfort, without the pretension and over solicitousness of other comparable hotels.

We have never been to a place where the imprint of human creativity is so well balanced with the beauty of nature.

My experience at Xandari has been more than value...it's about personal warmth and touch. Gentility is a rare treasure in the service industry. Costa Rica offers this on many levels and Xandari exceeds it.

“Travel Dates: March 24-28, 2013 Room: Villa 3 We are from the States. We chose Xandari based upon ratings from the trip advisor website, its proximity to the San Jose airport and its centrally located position (w/r/t to the country as a whole). We chose to rent a vehicle (easy to drive in Costa Rica as long as u have a 4x4 vehicle and a GPS)- would recommend limited night time driving. Xandari was an oasis set on the hillside with beautiful views of San Jose. The first night we arrived, we were greeted by the bellman and hotel desk staff. We were quickly whisked away to our room. We had an Ultra villa, which was more than enough room for me and my wife. The room had a small collection of ants near the screen door (my wife is terrified of bugs so this was more of an issue for her). The staff was extremely apologetic and quickly made arrangements to transfer us to another room. They did so within 15 minutes and we failed to have another complaint. Service at the restaurant was great, especially given the laissez-faire attitudes of most Costa-Ricans. The grounds were well maintained. The staff was extremely attentive and responsive to any request. The rooms were cleaned well by the maids. The bed, at least in my unit, was comfortable. Things to note: No air-condition, but they do have fans upon request (it gets quite cool at night, so this wasn't a significant issue for us). No TVs in the room, but they do have one in the main house (more of an issue if u like to keep up on your sports, etc while on vacation). Mild-moderate amount of insects outside of your rooms, but keep in mind the resort is set in a hill side jungle, replete with water falls, etc so this should be expected”
