A fantastic hotel - the people make this place so special!

We had a wonderful stay with my wife and young son Luca. The five nights we stayed was perfect and our son loved every moment. A special thank you to the team at Mama Kitchen - Jarat, Kam, Bee, Mona, Much and the entire team. From check in to check out the hotel was fantastic. The close proximity to the airport was great and we have now moved on to explore Cambodia but look back fondly on our time in Phuket. We would love to visit again.

Don’t settle for this!

After sixteen nights in Thailand we headed to the Mariott Nai Yang Phuket for our last night. From the moment we arrived our hearts sank. Rather than receiving the help with the suitcases, the cool fragranced towel, temporary wi-fi code and a drink (which every other hotel we had stayed offered), we instead found a small packed, chaotic reception room with lots of angry, tired looking people and were offered nothing. As we had arrived a little early and our room wasn’t ready we headed to the beach only to find that it was an ugly building site. There were constant banging/building noises. There is no mention of the building work on the hotel website and we felt very misled. We looked for a sun bed/lounger only to find they were all taken. People were sitting on towels on the beach. No staff anywhere to help. Dirty plates were left on tables next to loungers. Our room was still not ready at 3pm but we finally got it we discovered the lift to our top floor room was broken. Exhausted we thought we'd have a cup of tea only to find there was no milk only dreadful coffeemate sachets. When we called to ask for a small quantity of milk, we were told the charge would be 120THB! Every other hotel we stayed at brought free milk, had Nespresso machines and coffee capsules not just instant coffee sachets! We paid USD 400/night without breakfast for this? When we complained to reception, our concerns were waved away (we got the impression that many guests had complained about the building works etc.,) This soulless hotel is without a doubt the worse place we stayed in during our Thailand holiday. Had we been made aware of the construction site impacting the Marriott Nai Yang hotel in advance we would have stayed at an alternate hotel. But perhaps the most disturbing issue is that staff didn’t really ‘care’ – we experienced excellent Thai hospitality this trip in 4 hotels (The Amari, Sai, Layana and The Banyan Tree) where the staff in each could not have been more welcoming; whereas at the Marriott the approach was formulistic and one of simply saying whatever had been trained from a menu of responses, without the individuals ever really conveying a sense of wanting to resolve relatively simple issues (aside from the construction sites, where it is simply a case of mis-advertisement by the Marriott group when selling the hotel room). If you want a wonderful holiday with true Thai hospitality and service don’t settle for this!

Would highly recommend.

We loved it. It’s amazing. Perfect location for our honeymoon. So sad it’s almost over. I would recommend upgrading room to swim up or cabana room which we did. It’s simply walking out of your room in the morning straight into the pool to wake up/cool off. Hotel is just a short walk along the beach to Nai Yang where there is lots of restaurants and massage places. The staff were amazing and so thoughtful. Really felt looked after. Laila who was our room attendant deserves a special mention as she went above and beyond for us. As did Billy in the bar who was just lovely. Buffet breakfast is great…..Big Fish restaurant is amazing. And the hotel serves a great Pina colada!

Heaven on Earth

An amazing, peaceful beautiful resort close to the airport. Had the most beautiful Marriot activities with Plai, the activities manager. An absolutely beautiful experience that I would describe as “once in a lifetim” with the best breakfast in the world.

Lovely resort

The resort was lovely. The setting was beautiful, with a long, secluded, clean beach, lots of palms, and direct beach access. As a longstanding Bonvoy titanium member, I received a room upgrade to a villa, which was outstanding. It was a small house with pivate entrance, a small private pool, a yard with guava trees, an outdoor dining table, and sun lounges. The room itself was spcious and well appointed. Breakfast in the Andaman restaurant was very good, with many diverse offerings, from typical Western fare (eggs, bacon, sausage, fried potatoes) to South Indian idlis and dal. The Big Fish restaurant was also quite good, with numerous fish dishes, as well as other items, such as steak, pork chops, and pasta. As we expect in Thailand, the service was friendly and attentive. Our only complaint was that the beach was not really a swimming beach - the tide was often too far out or even when it as high tide, the water was not much over knee level.
