Reviews for Loews Ventana Canyon Resort

Worth the price but needs some quality checks

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Overall Great hotel nice property. Room was clean and bed comfy! Check in experience: 1 star, someone needs to learn customer service! I checked in as part of a group that was using the hotel for a conference. When I checked in I asked to block room charges. I gave my card and then told my card was declined. I asked how much was attempting to be charged? Answer $1300 for a 4 night stay? I asked for clarification well “incidentals” are the full stay plus $104 a night! WTF not once was this communication. The only solution from the manager was to split it between card, again WTF. After 30 mins of “discussion” finally got to blocking room charges which I asked at the start and to charge only the 4 day stay. Ok that is what I wanted to do no biggie. Restaurants: the grill by the pool AMAZING! Great food decent price for resort food. The restaurant inside by the coffee bar short staffed and horrible service! Waited 30 mins to be served then no refills BUT HAD TO PAY the mandatory 22% gratuity for non existing service. They knew they had a group with a few hundred guest and should have staffed appropriately. The HUGE and I mean huge bath tub was a little hard to maneuver, having to hike your leg to touch your nose to get it over the edge made bath time challenging. If you wanted a bath it took close to 45 mins to get the water to a bath level unsure how long to fill it up, someone please time it! Other then that conference room was great and was cleaned set up as requested, air conditioning was rough but it is summer in Tucson so that was expected.

Wonderful Stay!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Just returned from a wonderful stay at this beautiful resort. Jesenia at the front desk was so helpful, and it was her recommendation that prompted us to take the walking trails to explore the natural beauty of this unique property. The entire staff was amazing. We were always greeted in the hallways and the wait staff at both restaurants was outstanding. We can’t wait to return!

POOR BOOKING EXPERIENCE - DON'T T BOOK A CONFERENCE HERE!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I have stayed here twice to attend the same professional conference. The resort is beautiful and belnds well with the surrounding natural terrain. However when I attended in 2022, there were many issues trying to book a room under the group rate. I planned on attending the same conference in 2024, but again had a terrible time trying to book the group rate on the resort portal. Even when calling by voice with over a month to go in the window to book under the conference block rate, the resort refused to book me at the rate, despite saying they had many rooms available. After discussing with the conference organizers, I learned that many members had similar poor experiences. This place is obviously more interested in up-charging guests who would otherwise be eligible for group rates. I liked this resort enough I seriously wanted to return for a vacation, even at a much higher/normal room rate. However, after two poor booking experiences, sadly, I will make it a point to NEVER go back.

A lovely trip! - Book with AMEX!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Had a lovely trip in Arizona in May! The weather was fantastic this time of year and the staff were very nice. I chose this hotel in order to take advantage of my AMEX credit, and the benefits were well worth it! The breakfast credit was phenomenal (and very good!), and I was able to use my resort credit on property for dinner one night. I also received a suite upgrade, which featured one of the largest tubs I've seen in a while! The staff was kind, and the resort was nice. The room could use a bit of an update, but it was clean. I also enjoyed the activities they had on resort, they had Stargazing one night and also a morning hike you could attend! Both featured locals, and was a nice way to start/end the day! Definitely recommend staying here if you have the benefit!

Two different experiences

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My bf and I stayed here twice only a month apart. First time was in June 2024 for Memorial Day weekend and the second time was for the 4th of July. The first time we stayed the staff were very nice to us and even offered us water and snacks for our stay. We had been upgraded to a different room that we had originally been booked due to the perks with American Express. Which included free breakfast every morning, the second time we stayed we were given only $80 towards breakfast. The hotel gives you a card to hang on your door and they’ll get it before 2am. Both times they never picked up our card. Which was odd because everyone on our floor got their cards taken. I had to call to order our food in the morning, since we had marked what time we wanted it on the card. The food was ok most of the time it was cold or over cooked and you waited 2 hours longer than when you were expecting it. What upset my bf the most is they still charged us for room service but later removed it when they realized they never took our card to begin with. We also had two very different pool experiences such as in June ever pool was so preteen and clean but in July it was full of debris and bugs. You would think they were maybe scooping them out at the end of the night or maybe every hour because yes it’s summer there’s going to be bugs. But no they let them become swamps.
