What was once a 16th-century working plantation is now an eco-friendly Caribbean hideaway that pays homage to its storied past. Fond Doux Plantation & Resort, located on the island of Saint Lucia, in the historical center and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Soufrière. The tidy wooden cottages, many cloaked in a crisp white hue, dot the tropical retreat and provide a space for guests to lounge on front porches and enjoy the lush scenery and foliage. Interiors are equally charming, with a blanket of wooden planks coating the floor, rattan furnishings and broad French doors that push open to marry the indoors with the outside.

A rustic old style plantation cabin with en-suite shower room and air con suited our needs really well. The greatest bit about our accommodation was the location amongst established gardens with so many fruit or spice bearing trees right on the edge if the rainforest. All of the cabins had a private feel amongst the vegetation, complete with visiting hummingbirds and other wildlife. In spite of this the concrete paths were easy to walk along and we'll lit at night. We loved walking too and from the restaurant for breakfast in the morning and we would take different paths deeper into the gardens. The bed was huge and the mattress and pillows comfy. A mosquito net adorned the bed and although the climate was near perfect when we visit the air con was welcome when returning from a day out. There was a ceiling fan too. The room had a fridge although we would have welcomed the ability to better prep our own food had we so wished. I understand there are other lodges that do provide that facility. Fond Doux is well located with a short drive to the sulpher springs, diamond waterfalls and the Piton trail is very local and worth doing. We walked all the way from the resort although the climb up the road is strenuous in places if hot. If you drive up to the start of the trail it is quite easy with wonderful views. We enjoyed driving on some of the lesser known roads in the hills with colourful local houses and amazing scenery. Car hire is almost essential unless you are happy to use local buses or use the complimentary beach shuttle (we did not as we had hired a car). I recommend hiring a small SUV which copes with the roads better but you don't necessarily need 4WD. Watch out for damgerous overtaking by other drivers though! Each and every staff member we met at Fond Doux was simply lovely. From the daily cleaning staff to the gardeners to the restaurant serving staff, receptionists and security team. There must be an ethos here instilled by the owners that creates such an atmosphere amongst staff. We wholeheartedly recommend this place for all these reasons.

Fond Doux was a magical gem in the jungle. Not a typical beach vacation. Better. Lovely people making sure everything in our oasis was perfect. The resort is not super fancy but it is a unique offering that makes everything Saint Lucia has to offer easily available - jungle hikes, fantastic views, beaches and chocolate!

We have just spent a very interesting 5 nights at Fond Doux resort. Is it the perfect St Lucian resort for a relaxing getaway ? No What this resort offers is something totally different, being set in the rain forest and waking up to that view from Mango is something I will never forget it was really breathtaking. The staff are ALL excellent, so friendly and always willing to help with a smile. A big mention has to go to Clinton who took us on 3 guided excursions around the property pointing out the massive amount of different fruits that grow in the plantation, I will however never, ever eat the insides of a coco seed again, the thought of it still gives me nightmares 😁 Everything we learnt and saw was an education, we relaxed and we learnt so thank you to all the staff at Fond Doux for making our stay so incredible. Note - if you want 5 star luxury stay away, it’s not the cleanest nor the smartest resort in St Lucia but what it offers is something totally different so why not give it a go.

We spent 8 unforgettable nights at Fond Doux Eco-Resort in March and can’t recommend it highly enough. The weather was spectacular — 78–86°F each day — with the occasional refreshing rain shower that passed quickly and left everything even more vibrant. We stayed in two of the resort’s cottages, each designed in a charming island cabin style reminiscent of Swedish stugas but with a beautiful French Creole twist—gingerbread woodwork and intricate cutouts that made each building feel both rustic and refined. Both cottages were equipped with modern, efficient air-source heat pumps that kept the interiors delightfully cool and comfortable with whisper-quiet operation. Our favorite was the hilltop cottage: perched high in the trees of a steep, working cocoa plantation; it offered complete privacy, a private plunge pool, and a front-row seat to the lush surroundings. We woke up each day to the sight of ripening bananas, cocoa pods, and vibrant flowers just outside our window, accompanied by a constant parade of hummingbirds, finches, and countless other tropical birds. At night, we drifted off to a natural symphony of crickets and frogs — no traffic, no neighbors, just the sounds of the rainforest. Fond Doux offers a quiet, warm, and technology-light atmosphere that invites you to truly unwind. The cottages are beautifully appointed with luxurious king-sized beds, outdoor showers thoughtfully integrated into each room, coffee makers, refrigerators, and even transformers for charging devices — but notably, no televisions, which we saw as a real plus. The absence of screens helped us unplug and enjoy the natural surroundings even more. The water was clean and fresh-tasting, and refill stations around the property made it easy to stay hydrated while avoiding single-use plastic bottles. Whether we were sipping a drink at the peaceful patio bar, swimming in one of the pools, or enjoying rich breakfasts and delicious dinners at the open-air restaurant, we felt completely at ease and immersed in the setting. The decor throughout the resort is beautiful and tasteful, offering a strong sense of place and charm — all at a fraction of the cost of nearby ultra-luxury resorts. That said, there are small compromises and signs that some original material choices haven’t weathered perfectly: some bathroom tile work shows patching and a vinyl decking experiment on a few walkways, and the pool deck hasn’t fared well under the island sun. While delicious and welcoming, the restaurant can occasionally get overwhelmed during busy times, leading to some variability in service timing. None of this detracted from our overall experience. The new lap pool under construction during our visit suggests that the property continues to receive thoughtful investment and expansion. We mention these minor flaws only to note that if you’re expecting $1,000+/night stone-foundation villas, tennis courts, and ultra-modern suites, there are resorts down the road built to that global luxury standard. But that’s not what Fond Doux is about. The vibe here was more our speed — hikers, nature lovers, off-the-beaten-path travelers, mostly middle-aged guests more likely to have a book than an iPad. There’s plenty to do nearby — from beautiful beaches and botanical gardens to chocolate factories and excellent local restaurants. The highlight of our trip was the resort’s expertly maintained circular one-mile nature trail. It climbs steeply up the mountain with rope and root railings and rewards you with one of the most breathtaking views of the Petit Piton we have seen all week. The front desk team was always helpful and happy to arrange taxis, make reservations, and offer tips for exploring. We also loved the on-site historical and cocoa plantation tours, which added depth and meaning to our stay. Knowing that longtime St. Lucian entrepreneurs locally own Fond Doux and employ so many dedicated staff with long tenures made the experience even more special. The care and thoughtfulness behind every resort aspect — from design to environmental impact — was palpable. To top it all off, we had a smooth, direct JetBlue flight into the nearby airport, making travel days easy and stress-free. Fond Doux is a place of beauty, serenity, and soul — and we’re already dreaming of our return.

I had a lovely stay at this resort! The staff were very welcoming from arrival. We stayed in the Lemon Cottage which was very cozy. If you’re someone who loves connecting with nature and overall just love natural stuff I would recommend this resort to you, you definitely won’t regret it. The place was clean we had no complaints about anything.
