In Evora, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage City, there is a unique convergence of ancient and modern spirit at the Convento do Espinheiro Hotel & Spa. Alentejo is known as the breadbasket of Portugal, and its picturesque fields roll as far as the eye can see. Vineyards, cheese farms, and olive orchards make the area's cuisine as famous as it is delectable, while historical churches and monuments create a rich cultural experience. Here you will find this luxurious hotel and spa that was once a convent. Set in beautiful gardens, the 15th-century building makes a wonderful home for a hotel unlike any other.

The service is bizarrely non existent. It felt like there was no manager on duty or in charge. I couldn't get towels. I couldn't get coffee. The rooms are small and on top of that they miscommunicated on my room type. They miscommunicated regarding my reservation at the reservation and then there was nobody in charge to be able to make the situation right. So, we ended up without a reservation. When I went to the restaurant itself their English was poor but they said to speak with the front desk. The front desk had told me to speak to the restaurant manager. And so on.

Amazing hotel, simply beautiful and with such history! We enjoyed every moment of our stay. Although we had a car, taking an Uber into the city was very easy and did not have to worry about the parking.

We recently spent a couple of nights at the Convento seeking out a change of scene and some slightly warmer weather in Winter and had a really great time - the hotel's blend of its old and new parts really makes it a special place to stay. We turned up a little early to this hotel but the reception staff were super friendly, helped us find lunch in the bar which was good and then checked us into our "Design" room in the newer part of the building which we really liked - lots of space in the well appointed room, a balcony to look out over the garden and a decent bathroom. At check-in, we were also invited to a wine-tasting and a tour of the building and both were very good - the building's chapel, restaurant, wine-bar, etc. are amazing and would form a tourist attraction in their own right. We ate in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner and enjoyed both - the food was good and the service both attentive and relaxed and friendly as it is across the whole hotel - every member of staff was super friendly here, keen to chat and help us to have a good stay. We used the hotel to visit Evora which is well worth a visit and would recommend both Evora and the Convento to anyone looking to make a similar trip.
