Gili Lankanfushi

Our second stay at Gili Lankanfushi confirmed what we already suspected after our first visit: this is truly one of those rare places that has a soul. Located just 20 minutes by speedboat from Malé, the resort is incredibly convenient to reach, something especially valuable for shorter stays, allowing you to maximize your time in paradise from the very first moment. Gili sits on what is, without question, one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Maldives. The water is impossibly clear, with endless shades of turquoise that feel almost unreal. The setting alone would make it special, but what truly sets Gili apart is the atmosphere it creates. The resort features only overwater villas and they are enormous, private, serene and perfectly designed to blend into the natural surroundings. It embodies the true meaning of barefoot, laid-back luxury: effortless, authentic and never pretentious. Service is simply outstanding. Warm, intuitive and deeply personal, the team has an incredible ability to make every guest feel genuinely cared for without ever being intrusive. The food is another highlight. From relaxed beachside dining to more refined culinary experiences, everything is executed with great quality and attention to detail. Having stayed at many of the world’s finest hotels, Gili Lankanfushi remains one of those truly special places that stays with you long after you leave. It has character, heart and authenticity and unquestionably deserves a place in any list of the world’s best resorts. This was our second visit, and it certainly will not be our last.

Everything was flawless! We had the most incredible Ms Friday (Rayaa - you are an absolute gem and made our stay so so special), the food (esp on buffet nights and breakfast), the service, the rooms, the water, the surfing, the massages (April was incredible). Couldn't have asked for a better babymoon here! Small drawback was some party noises were heard on two nights but management really helped handle it. Would come back here again and again!

Our 10th anniversary at Gili Lankanfushi was hands down the best travel experience we’ve ever had. We’ve visited the Maldives before, but Gili operates on a completely different level. If I had to rate it, it’s not 100/100 — it’s 200/100. Let me start with Chef Hari. He is, without exaggeration, one of the best chefs in the Maldives. The care and personalization he brings to dining is extraordinary. Whether it’s vegan, Jain, gluten-free, lactose-free, or managing specific allergies — everything is handled with such precision and warmth. Every meal felt thoughtfully curated, and we never once had to worry about our preferences. That level of attention is rare. Our concierge, Zuba, was simply phenomenal. From the moment we arrived, he made sure every single detail of our 10th anniversary was special. Nothing was too much trouble. Every request was handled seamlessly and with genuine warmth. He didn’t just manage logistics — he elevated the entire experience. The spa was another highlight. Absolutely mind-blowing therapies in an overwater setting where you can literally see fish swimming beneath you while you’re being treated. It’s tranquil, surreal, and deeply rejuvenating all at once. Special mention to Aayu who was our fantastic therapist. We stayed in Villa 40, and if you’re a swimmer or someone who loves snorkeling, this is the spot to be. The resort has 3 jetties, It’s located on the best jetty out of the 3. While the resort doesn’t have a full in-house house reef directly accessible from every villa, they arrange a quick two-minute speedboat ride to fantastic snorkeling spots. Yes, it would be ideal to have to swim to the house reef right there, but they are clearly working on marine conservation and reef restoration, which is wonderful to see. Another thoughtful touch: if you have an early morning or late-night flight, they provide a spare room to relax before departure. That level of hospitality is something we haven’t experienced elsewhere in the Maldives. From the room to the food, the spa, the concierge, and the overall vibe — everything was flawless. It was luxury with heart. If given a choice, we would go back again and again and again. Gili Lankanfushi didn’t just host our anniversary — they made it unforgettable. We truly can’t wait to return.

What makes a trip to the Maldives better? The view? the Amenities? The size of the Room? The kindness of people working on the island? Having travelled a lot in the Maldives and in the most luxurious places (Waldorf Astoria, Joali, Kani etc...) I can now tell you that when a sense of service and kindness is as high as on Gili resort, you spend an unforgettable trip. From the day you arrive to the day you leave, the whole island makes you feel home. From the double espresso you take at 11am to the gluten free diet you follow, once you mention it to one person, the whole island will remember it and make sure you always have what you need. The room is spectacular (biggest room we ever had in the Maldives), less restaurant as in Warldorf or Joali but every night a new theme for the dinner make it like you always eat a different kind of food. And what to say about our Butler, Shaany, a wonderful person, she a big part of why we loved Gili. Telling us about Maldivian culture, and always making sure everything was perfect at any time. To be honest I felt that in other resort you are just a customer that they try to milk the most possible with extras, and you can end up with a final bill of 20K, but here it's never the case. Plenty of free activities, cocktail parties, I mean you pay 2 or 3 times less then other big 5 stars name but you leave with much more memories. I will be back for sure! Absolutely superb with the friendliest hosts, magical place and incredible food. Accommodation is great cannot say enough good things about this place.
