About the Hotel

Among resorts in Maldives, Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort is the typical island epitomizing all that one dreams of when thinking of the Maldives. Located in a private island in the pristine South Ari Atoll region, approximately 25-minute seaplane flight away from Malé International Airport. With its small island charm, lush vegetation surrounded by powder-white soft sand, and a house reef that a myriad of tropical fish call home, the island is just over 350 metres in length and can be walked in just 10 minutes and a bit! Thatch-roofed villas inspired by local architecture are set amidst verdant gardens or are poised over the turquoise lagoon. Deceivingly modest exteriors hide worldly comforts and indulgences and all villas offer direct access to the beach or to the sea.

Honeymoon on Outrigger

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

From start to finish this stay was outstanding. The resort is immaculate with a lovely sense of understated luxury. We felt so well looked after from the sea plane lounge at the airport which was fantastic. Arrival at the resort was very well organised and we were met by our lovely butler Moosa who was on hand if we needed him for dinner reservations or answers to questions. Without exception the staff were unceasingly polite and friendly and SO efficient. Best service we have ever received by a long stretch. Our water pool villa was huge and the views from the whole island are breath taking. The food was superb. The spa out of this world and the snorkelling extraordinary. We had our honeymoon here as a treat and felt it was worth every penny! We were delayed leaving Male by the fire at Heathrow (sadly having already left Outrigger) and were put up by Virgin in another resort which was lovely but really brought home just how exceptional Outrigger is! If you are looking for a quiet, restful, indulgent visit to the Maldives then Outrigger will provide perfectly!

Incredible 4 days at Outrigger with our 3 kids.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We had a fantastic time at outrigger in March 2025 and spent 4 days there. The staff were outstanding and made us felt so at home. Joy was especially amazing and remembered all of our kids names and made us feel like family. The over water bungalows are perfect and we swam out the the house reef every day and saw countless fish, baby sharks, sting rays and squids. It’s like having an aquarium in your back yard. We also went diving with the dive team at outrigger and there were fantastic. Franci was so nice and enthusiastic and made us feel so safe. Jacob was also great with our youngest daughter as she did her discovery dive and now she wants to be an open water diver! The restaurants were excellent as well and we had the full meal plan. We dined at all of the restaurants and especially liked grill and the Japanese restaurant. Our only feedback is that the cocktails were a bit too sweet and could be toned down in sugar. The wine selections however were great and had a nice structure and body. Great choices. Overall I would highly recommend Outrigger to families with tween/teenaged kids like we had. The kids loved spending time at the pool tables and mini put as well and our time flew by. Also thanks to Moosa for taking care of everything logistically for us and it was so seamless.

Escape to paradise

Excellent location, beaches and sea amazing. Add to that first class service and food. Very chilled ideal for the relaxation we were craving. Staff very friendly and helpful. (Nadir, Shiraz, Joy, Peema plus of course Moossa all worth special mention).

Staff are amazing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We went in August of 2023 and honestly it was one of the most amazing experiences we’ve ever had. Not only is the hotel gorgeous, the food’s great, but the staff are what really stand out. Words cannot describe just how kind they were, every single one of them. I forget some of the names but Moosa was great, the marine biologist, and especially the man running the Kofee/ice cream cafe place. 11/10.

Maafushivaru

We stayed 7 nights in a Water Villa with Jacuzzi and this was our thirty-fourth visit to the Maldives. What we liked: Amazing lagoon between the 2 jetties of the water villas.. Amazing views in front of the bar/pool where it is a pleasure to have a drink before or after dinner. Very quiet and frequented mainly by couples. Food in a la carte restaurants. What we don't like. Buffet for dinner. Always the same with little or no variations for a full week. The reef. Completely dead coral all around the island. Some details upon arrival to the room. There were no mattresses on the sun loungers, no parasols on the deck, no paper or pens in the room and no beach bags. Not very important but sometimes it is these details that differentiate one island from the others. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.
