Beautiful Location, Disappointing Resort – Not the Luxury Experience We Paid For (1/5 Stars)

Beautiful Location, Disappointing Resort – Not the Luxury Experience We Paid For (1/5 Stars) We chose Zoëtry Marigot Bay to celebrate a 25th work anniversary, expecting the luxury, tranquility, and exceptional service that this resort advertises. Instead, we left feeling disappointed and honestly believe we deserve a partial refund for an experience that fell far short of expectations. The setting is undeniably beautiful, but the property itself is tired and in need of significant maintenance. Our room had multiple issues, including a broken TV remote, loose and malfunctioning sink faucets, and constant loud banging from large papayas falling onto the roof and air-conditioning units throughout the day and night. These are simple maintenance issues that should be addressed. The food was one of the biggest disappointments. Menus were extremely limited, resulting in the same meals day after day. While 1461 offered excellent beef and lamb, the selection rarely changed. The Cove’s Italian cuisine was simply not good. Breakfast was repetitive every morning, lacking the fresh tropical fruit, cheeses, and variety you would expect at a Caribbean luxury resort. Many mixed drinks also tasted watered down. The resort constantly tried to upsell guests despite being all-inclusive. We were repeatedly encouraged to purchase bottles of wine, including bottles that sell for around $9 in Ohio but were priced at $85 on the menu. That felt excessive and completely out of place. The Inclusive Collection app was convenient, but execution was inconsistent. We requested hand soap three separate times and never received it. We had to request a replacement TV remote twice, and our luggage pickup on departure day was so delayed that our taxi driver had to wait because our bags weren’t delivered on time. The pool area lacked attention. The bar was dirty, chipped, and had an unpleasant odor. Chairs were not consistently wiped down or realigned, debris accumulated throughout the day, and there was no poolside food or beverage service. Guests should not have to leave their chairs to order drinks and food at a resort of this caliber. Entertainment was almost nonexistent. During our eight-day stay there was only one evening of entertainment—the fire dancers—and they were excellent. Guests clearly loved it. Why wasn’t there something every night? Live music, cultural performances, themed parties, movies by the pool, trivia, local artisans, cooking classes, painting, bracelet making—there are so many opportunities to create memorable experiences. Activities that did exist were poorly advertised and difficult to find. The marina shopping area is another enormous missed opportunity. Most of the storefronts sit empty, and the gift shop was incredibly disappointing. I couldn’t even find a simple souvenir to bring home. Imagine local boutiques, jewelry stores, artisan shops, coffee cafés, and island merchants filling that beautiful waterfront space. Instead, it feels abandoned. The beach itself was much smaller than expected, and vendors frequently approached guests selling rum drinks and fruit. Many were very persistent and spoke so quickly that it often felt like they were taking advantage of tourists. One bright spot was the spa. Our couples massage was wonderful, and the therapists were excellent. However, even here there were opportunities to improve the experience with better changing facilities, a true post-treatment relaxation lounge, and more inviting wellness amenities. The treatment prices were also extremely high. The fitness center was adequate but unremarkable, and even the adjoining restroom lacked paper towels to dry your hands after washing them—another example of poor attention to detail. Most importantly, I want to recognize the staff. Nearly every employee we encountered was genuinely kind, friendly, and hardworking. They smiled, worked tirelessly, and appeared to truly care about guests. The problems we experienced were not because of the frontline staff—they reflected management decisions, inadequate maintenance, poor planning, and a lack of investment in the guest experience. This resort has incredible potential because of its stunning location and dedicated employees. Unfortunately, it is being held back by poor leadership and a failure to deliver the luxury experience guests are paying for. Marriott should be embarrassed to have its name associated with a property operating at this level. We left feeling that we paid luxury prices for an average resort experience. Sadly, we would not return, would not recommend Zoëtry Marigot Bay to others, and genuinely feel that a partial refund would be appropriate given how far the experience fell below the standards that were advertised.

My trip experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The staff was incredibly nice. The views were spectacular. My buddy had a wedding and the staff was incredibly accommodating. You schedule all of your excursions with your butler or the front desk. Rooms were huge and I loved the swim up bar. The turn down service was new for me. But the entire experience was worth every penny.

Luxury Price Without the Luxury

For the price of the rooms, I expected a much more luxurious experience. The landscaping and grounds are beautiful. St. Lucia is a beautiful island.

Me and my wife went here for our honey moon. We had a great time I would highly recommend this location for anyone. The food and drinks are (S) tier.

I rarely write reviews, but after our experience, I felt compelled to share it. My husband and I chose this resort for our honeymoon after seeing the beautiful photos online and reading about Saint Lucia being one of the top honeymoon destinations. We were excited and expected a relaxing, luxurious experience. Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing from the moment we arrived. Upon check-in, there was confusion regarding our room assignment. While mistakes happen and we were understanding, it wasn't the best start to our honeymoon. Once we settled in, we quickly began noticing issues throughout the property. The most concerning problem was the overwhelming odor throughout the resort. There was a persistent sewage-like smell in multiple areas, including our bathroom, dining areas, and common spaces. Instead of improving, it seemed to get worse throughout our stay. Our bathroom, in particular, had a strong odor that made it unpleasant to use. Cleanliness was another major issue. We repeatedly received towels and bed linens with visible stains. The pool water appeared cloudy and unclean, there was mold visible around parts of the property, and several public restrooms smelled strongly of urine. There are stray cats throughout the resort, which may contribute to some of these issues. While we love animals, cleanliness standards should reflect what is expected of a resort that markets itself as a five-star destination. My husband surprised me with a spa treatment during our trip, but even that was disappointing. The towel placed over me during the service had noticeable brown stains, which immediately raised concerns about overall sanitation and hygiene practices. The food was another significant letdown. Out of our entire stay, we only had a handful of meals that we genuinely enjoyed. Portions were small, quality was inconsistent, and there were several occasions when we left one restaurant to find something else because the food was so poor. The breakfast buffet felt comparable to a standard hotel breakfast, and we frequently encountered undercooked eggs. At the pool restaurant, we even watched staff preparing frozen food. Considering the cost of staying at this resort, we expected a much higher standard. The resort advertises itself as a wellness and relaxation destination, but the atmosphere felt more like a party resort. On the beach, staff members were often smoking and drinking while working. Many of the beach chairs were stained, worn out, and in desperate need of replacement. The beach vendors were also extremely persistent, making it difficult to relax. We did purchase a souvenir shell, only to later discover that TSA would not allow it through the airport. In hindsight, it was money wasted. Our room had several maintenance issues as well. The phone did not work, making it impossible to contact the front desk without using our personal cell phones, and the television never functioned properly during our stay. We ultimately gave up on reporting the issues and spent our evenings watching shows on a laptop instead. One of the most frustrating experiences involved the laundry service. We were told that we received "three free washes," which led us to believe we could wash three loads of laundry. After sending out two small loads, we were charged $132. When we questioned the charge, we were informed that the promotion actually covered only three individual clothing items. The wording felt misleading, and our concerns were met with resistance rather than understanding. Communication with the front desk was consistently challenging. We needed our rental car available at 2:30 a.m. for our airport departure, and despite making arrangements in advance, there was significant confusion surrounding the request. Although the car was ultimately available, the uncertainty created unnecessary stress during our final evening. Overall, this was not the honeymoon experience we had hoped for. Between the cleanliness concerns, unpleasant odors, poor food quality, maintenance issues, confusing policies, and lack of communication, we left feeling disappointed and frustrated. We invested a significant amount of money into what was supposed to be a special trip, and unfortunately, it did not live up to the expectations set by the resort's marketing. If you're considering this resort for a honeymoon or luxury vacation, I would strongly encourage you to do thorough research and explore all of your options before booking. I can't believe my husband and I spent our money staying at this resort and I wish we could get it all back to get the honeymoon we truly deserve
