Beautiful Setting, But Service & Food Needs Work

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

We had high hopes for Zoetry Marigot Bay based on its reputation, and while parts of our stay were lovely, there were some real gaps for a property in the 4-star category. The property itself is genuinely beautiful. The setting in Marigot Bay is stunning, and the design has a lot of charm. That said, it's showing its age in places and could use some updates. Service was inconsistent. Some staff members were warm and attentive, but with many others, we got the sense we were an inconvenience rather than a guest. For a resort at this price point, that stood out. Food was the biggest disappointment. Lunch and dinner fell short, both in quality and consistency, again, not what you'd expect at a 4-star property. We ended up heading offsite one night on a local's recommendation to The Coal Pot, and it was outstanding!! If you're staying here, do yourself a favor and book there. Room service reinforced the same pattern. We scheduled breakfast the night before and it still arrived late, with no condiments at all, no salt, no pepper, not even butter for the toast. Separately, we called room service for water bottles and it took 90 minutes to arrive after going to the front desk. A few other things worth mentioning: - Right at check-in, before we'd even settled in, we were given a sales pitch for Hyatt. - The pool bar had a very limited selection of drinks. - The area near Hurricane Hole had a noticeable smell from the boats. - We visited during off season, so I honestly can't imagine how strained things would feel at full capacity. - The private beach is small but the water is beautiful for swimming. Be aware local vendors do approach you to sell items. - There were roaming cats all around the eating areas, they would literally sit under your chair while you tried to eat. One thing we did appreciate: the AC in the room worked well and kept the room comfortably cool. One tip: skip the hotel's transportation and use QuikKab instead. It was reliable and significantly cheaper. To their credit, we could tell the GM is actively trying to turn things around. But sitting at the pool bar, we spoke with several other guests voicing the exact same frustrations we had, so it seems like a pattern rather than a one-off. Bottom line: beautiful setting, but service, food, and amenities need real investment to match the price point.

Beautiful Location, Unacceptable Resort Experience. One Star Is Generous.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

I rarely write reviews this negative, but our stay at Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia was, without exaggeration, the worst experience I have had at an all-inclusive resort, and one of the worst resort experiences I have had anywhere. For context, I am a UVC Collection Gold Plus member and a World of Hyatt Explorist. I have used my membership extensively at resorts in Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, and I am also a very seasoned traveler who, at one point in my career, was traveling approximately 80% of the time for business and leisure. I had also visited St. Lucia before and stayed at a Sandals resort. I therefore arrived with a fairly broad basis for comparison and with high expectations for a Zoëtry property. Unfortunately, this resort did not come remotely close to meeting them. There were a few positives, and they deserve to be mentioned. The location on Marigot Bay is absolutely beautiful. The views are breathtaking, and the view from our room, #922, was exceptional. The small private beach is secluded and peaceful, accessible by a short boat ride from the resort. Both boat drivers we encountered were friendly and helpful, as was a young man on the beach known as "Tall Boy." A few employees also stood out for the right reasons. Kim at the front desk was professional, warm, friendly, and consistently helpful. Alex and Kennisha at 1461 were both accommodating and genuinely pleasant, and 1461 was by far the best dining experience we had at the resort. The highlight of the entire stay was the Rum Cave rum tasting hosted by Karla, originally from Cuba. She was outstanding. Knowledgeable, charismatic, entertaining, personable, and able to turn what could have been a routine tasting into a truly memorable experience. It happened to be just the two of us, and she personalized the experience beautifully. Frankly, she is far too talented for the overall level of this resort. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The physical condition of the property is deeply disappointing. The resort feels old, tired, and in multiple areas poorly maintained. In my opinion, the condition and service level are simply not consistent with what guests should expect from a luxury Zoëtry property. Our room had a wonderful view, but almost everything else felt dated. Fixtures were old, the lighting was poor, and the water pressure was unacceptable. In the evening, showering was sometimes nearly impossible because the water flow was reduced to little more than a trickle. I called maintenance and was told the issue had been resolved. It had not. Then there was Hurricane Hole. The service there was among the worst we experienced anywhere on the property. On multiple occasions, we waited 15 minutes or more simply to get someone's attention to be seated. When staff finally engaged with us, the attitude often felt dismissive, as though they were doing us a favor by serving us. I want to be fair. I do not know what the employment conditions are at this property, and if staff are overworked or poorly supported, management bears responsibility for that. But whatever the internal issues may be, guests paying luxury-resort prices should not routinely encounter indifferent or discourteous service. And then there was the smell. The odor around Hurricane Hole was at times almost unbearable while trying to eat. It smelled strongly of sewage. I cannot say with certainty whether it came from the marina, trash, plumbing, boats, or some other source, but the smell was unmistakable and completely inappropriate around a restaurant. The Cove was another major disappointment. It is presented as the resort's Italian restaurant. As someone born and raised in Italy, I will simply say that I found the food and overall experience so far removed from what I would consider Italian cuisine that I was genuinely surprised the restaurant was marketed that way. The spa experience was also problematic. We booked two treatments described to us as O2 facials. They were expensive, even after my 25% UVC Gold discount. The facial treatments themselves were not unpleasant, but no oxygen device or oxygen-based treatment that we could identify was used at any point. Based on the service we actually received, I do not understand why these were marketed or charged as O2 facials. The only thing that felt particularly elevated was the bill. Room service provided a final example on the morning of our departure. I spent approximately 30 minutes on the phone with the concierge carefully going through our breakfast order. When the food arrived, it was cold, and more than half of what we had ordered was missing. Perhaps the most frustrating part of the stay, however, was the complete disconnect between the VIP experience I expected as a UVC Gold Plus member and what we actually received. Instead of a meaningful welcome and recognition of our membership after a long day of travel, we were immediately pressured to attend a breakfast at another UVC property that appeared designed primarily to sell us an upgrade. This was particularly tone-deaf considering that I already hold one of the highest UVC membership levels, we were tired from traveling, and we were staying only four nights. One smaller point that I hope management will take seriously concerns the stray cats around the property. My significant other and I are both animal lovers, and we actually enjoyed having them around. However, we did not see any bowls of fresh water left out for them anywhere on the resort. In a hot tropical climate, providing a few simple water stations would be an inexpensive and compassionate gesture, and one that would reflect well on a resort that presents itself as focused on wellness and care. This was also the first vacation my significant other and I had taken together. What should have been a relaxing and memorable experience was repeatedly interrupted by problems that should simply not occur at a property positioned as a luxury resort. The sad part is that Marigot Bay is extraordinary. The setting is beautiful enough that, with proper investment, stronger management, better maintenance, and a serious commitment to hospitality, this property could be something special. But the location cannot compensate for deteriorating infrastructure, inconsistent service, poor food experiences, plumbing problems, questionable spa service descriptions, failed room service, and an overall lack of attention to detail. As a longtime UVC member and Hyatt guest, I find it difficult to understand how this property currently represents the standards associated with either organization. In my view, Hyatt and UVC should conduct a serious review of the resort's management, maintenance, service standards, and whether the property in its current condition belongs in this portfolio. I would not return, and I would not recommend Zoëtry Marigot Bay to friends, family, or fellow UVC members. One star, primarily for the extraordinary location and for the handful of employees who still understand what genuine hospitality should feel like.

We absolutely loved it!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Just returned home from our stay at Zoetry and we had an incredible time. The resort was absolutely beautiful with picturesque views and stunning scenery. The flowers and greenery were gorgeous. We did the all inclusive package which was perfect as the drinks were delicious and we enjoyed the food. We absolutely loved the “quiet” pool and sometimes felt like we had it to ourselves! The view from the infinity pool is unreal! The boat ride to the beach was super cool and a fun way to get to the beach. The beach was nice and the kayaking was a lot of fun. I am now realizing I didn’t get his name and this is going to seem silly but “the tall boy” on the beach when you first get off the boat was so nice, friendly and helpful. He always had towels ready for us, a nice smile on and offered us rum punch! Honestly, all of the staff at Zoetry were extremely friendly and we really felt they wanted to ensure we had a good time, which was appreciated. Every time we passed a staff member they greeted us with a smile and asked how we were doing, how our stay was and if we needed anything. Ella at concierge is amazing!!! My fiancé bought 3 converters for our trip but unfortunately forgot them at home which was an issue because he had to work on some days of the trip. Ella was so kind and generous to lend her converter to us for our entire stay!! This was a huge help and we appreciated it so much. She was also super friendly and helpful when booking an excursion. We book Joy’s adventure from her recommendation and it was AMAZING and an experience we will always remember! I always want to shout out the one and only Dumplyn. I took the body scrub making class with her and it was amazing - the class & the scrub! She also was the best MC for the limbo and fire dance show. She really brings the energy to match that nighttime event and it was such a fun night! She is SO good at what she does. The manager Pierre was so great. He was always around with a smile on and making sure we had everything we needed and addressed our minor concern (Zoetry bag in the room, lol) right away. Some other staff that I remember the names of are Allers, Quan and I think Tameka. (Waitress at The Cove). All made our restaurant experience awesome. ALL of the ladies at 1461 were so delightful and made each breakfast and dinner enjoyable for us. We really enjoyed our stay and absolutely loved the beautiful island of St. Lucia and will be back!
