Finest Playa Mujeres is a fine example of compromise. Guests who want to bring the whole family along on an all-inclusive vacation on Cancun’s gorgeous beaches can do so at this all-new property. Couples who want romance without the slightest echo of little feet on the pool deck will find that too, plus a string of other perks that come with booking a suite in the adults-only Excellence Club. Minimal architectural lines, Scandinavian-designed furniture, and pops of tropical aquamarine and lime green give the resort a low profile, and an extensive list of activities keeps the day as action-packed as desired.

This was my first all inclusive resort and cannot recommend it enough. All of the food was good, the rooms were amazing, and I appreciated how they were considerate with things like ecology. A special thanks to the staff at the excellence beach part of the resort Victor, Pita, Ricardo, and Carlos who made our time at the beach wonderful. Also Giovanni and Kevin led some fun activities during our stay.

Overall, it was generally a positive experience, with several major drawbacks. We have been to many different resorts with two kids (5 and 2) and have tried Iberostar, Dreams, and Secrets, so we are able to make informed comparisons. There are three major drawbacks. First, when it is cold, the pools are not heated, and the largest pool facing the ocean is not heated. There was only one warm jacuzzi where all the kids and adults were able to swim, so it was packed! There are several pools that were slightly warmer but not comfortable, and the swim-up was cold!!!! Of course, the majority of the time, this is not an issue, as it's quite warm, but on cold days, there is NO excuse not to heat the pool. So if you end up traveling on a cold day, you will spend it shivering or not swimming at all that day. Second, the kids' club is APPALILING and I do not use that word lightly. Yes, the staff is friendly and tries, but there were very few toys, and on rainy days there was little to do. For example, you could play indoor bingo, but of course, they ran out of cards! The swimming area (kids' slides) is nice, but again, it is not heated, so if you are traveling during a cold month, forget it. One area was slightly heated, but again, not comfortable. It was disconcerting to see all the kids shivering with anxious parents. Third, the restaurants are "first come first serve" basis. This means that if you do not get in line 30 minutes before opening, which is 6:00 pm typically, you will be left out and will have to wait 2 hours before being seated. We saw many angry families being told they will need to come back after having been told they would be seated in an an hour. They do not take reservations, which is absurd. If you have hungry kids, you will end up eating at the buffet or send someone to reserve a place. For a high-quality resort, having to wait 2 hours on average is something that can be totally avoided by using something called a reservation system. If you have a limited quantity of something, this is the best way to go. The restaurants are also very small and can only seat 5-6 families, and after that, you are out. The food was very good for the most part; we did not care about the surf and turf restaurant, but that was just our taste preference. The Gusto restaurant is very nice for the Finest members, and Freddy, our server, was particularly great. On the other hand, the grounds are very well-kept and very modern. There is nothing Mexican about the resort other than the employees, so the resort itself could have been anywhere. The beach is very nice, although again you need to show up at 7 am to reserve a spot closer to the water. The shows are great, and the kids loved them; much better quality than at the Iberostar Maya resort, for example. As mentioned, the food is very good, and the drinks are also excellent.

The hotel itself is excellent by design. The concept is clever and very well-suited for families. The structure of what they have built is thoughtful and functional. • The rooms are fantastic for children. • The beach is beautiful. • The staff are fantastic. • The spa is good. However, for the prices they charge, there are several issues: • Food: The quality is well below par across all restaurants. While the variety of dining options is impressive, the food itself is very poor. • WiFi: The connection is awful throughout the property. Whether by the pool, on the beach, or in your room, it’s consistently bad. • Kids Club: The kids’ club is great in theory, but it is severely understaffed. As a result, they often resort to simply putting on a film for the children. • Pools: The pools are not heated. During poor weather, this became a major issue, as it made using the pools uncomfortable. For a family-oriented hotel, it’s baffling that the main pools aren’t heated. While the hotel excels in design and certain family-focused features, these issues make it hard to justify the high price tag.

I am supper disappointed after spending over 10k for a weeks vacation. The cell and internet service is non existent. My father was admitted to the hospital the day after we arrived and I had no way of communicating to the hospital or doctors on call bc all of my calls dropped or were spotty at best. Our swim up suit was really dark and dingy, my husband even tried ordering light from a nearby OfficeMax. It was like a dark cave. The bathrooms only have either a rain fall shower head or hand held wand so for those of us the don’t wash our hair daily it really sucks. No bathroom door at all. No shower door, and the toilets don’t flush everything ( if you know what I mean). If you h need any communication with the outside world or need to be in touch with work remotely…BEWARE….DO NOT STAY HERE….RUN!!

Honestly, we couldn't wait for our stay to be over. Our holiday, which was supposed to be a relaxing getaway during Christmas, turned into a frustrating series of inconveniences. Here’s an honest rundown of our experience. The Good: - The resort grounds are beautiful, and the beach is nice—when you can actually find a spot to sit. - The kids water slides were great for 3-6 year olds and they had a blast. The Bad: - Room Issues: We booked a swim-up room in the Finest Club area, expecting luxury and convenience. Sadly, it has been anything but. The jacuzzi in the pool spews cold water instead of providing a relaxing soak. - Pool & Hot Tub: The pools were disappointingly cold, and the hot tub didn’t live up to expectations either—again, cold water. Considering we’re paying for a luxury experience, this felt like a major letdown. Only a few of the hot tubs throughout the resort were lukewarm, and most were just not working. The temperature of the pool was a running joke amongst guests, being so cold as to be unusable. Every day we were there, there were more people crammed into the one working lukewarm tub than there were in the main pool. - Birthday Cake Drama: My son’s birthday was part of the reason we chose this trip, but getting a simple birthday cake turned into a huge hassle. We made 10 phone calls, and each time we were met with confusion, delays, and a lack of follow-through. The cake finally arrived though. The Ugly: - Dining Experience: The dining situation is a mess. We were constantly waiting over an hour to be seated at restaurants, with some even taking up to 1.5 hours. Despite repeatedly being told that reservations were not accepted, every night, without fail, we saw people had reservations. When asked, the excuse was wedding parties (they were not, we had spoken to those guests earlier), seemed like differential service like another review mentioned. Some other guests speculated that buying a bottle may help. All this to get subpar cafeteria food. - Lack of Basic Amenities: One of the most frustrating aspects has been the lack of chairs by the pools and at the Finest Club beach area. There just aren't enough loungers to go around, which is especially annoying when the resort touts itself as a high-end, all-inclusive destination. We seriously regret our choice to stay here. It’s not what we were expecting for the price, and we certainly won’t be returning. There are plenty of other beautiful places to stay in the area that offer far better service and amenities. Do your research before booking—this place doesn’t live up to the hype.
