Beloved Playa Mujeres

Please read my review of Excellence dated Feb 2024 so you have some benchmarks on my comments. First the good: The resort is very quiet and laid back, it was not busy at all. Employees for the most part are very courteous. Nice beach, wonderful coffee shop. Plenty of lounges around the pools and beach. Common areas are kept very clean. Compliments to Antonio at the pool and Norberto at the lobby bar. The best food was the taco truck. But I cannot eat tacos every day and spend $900 per night. The bad: This is not close to a 5 star, more like 3 1/2. Food is abysmal at all the restaurants. The hotel seems to be short on staff, certainly in all the restaurants, and I do mean awful. There are no top shelf liquors at this hotel, some better at the lobby bar but the pool bar and the Italian bar and what you get sitting around the pool is cheap liquor. The house wine they serve is undrinkable, true at the Excellence as well, They really push you to buy bottles of wine at prices stupidly high. The only eatable things are the beach snacks, and they are not real good. The rooms are tired and showing their age, the place was build in 2009. The large pool (units 100-200) was not heated and ice cold. Here are the reasons, I had two employees tell me that the prior GM (who must have been good) was pulled to their new resort Coral about a mile away that is just opening. That manager also pulled his best staff out of Beloved, hence spotty service and terrible food. The front desk manager at Bisou was the rudest person I have encountered. Restaurant was empty and he said there would be a hour wait. Hence the staffing issues here. Had to call for maid service every day. Think twice before you go here, for what you pay, there is little value in this property. I take no pleasure in writing this, but it needs to be called out.

There are only a few special things in this world which remain that way year after year. Excellence Beloved Playa Mujeres is one of those extraordinary places that captures your heart and calls you back again and again. Everything is beautiful and fully a five star resort experience. But…it’s the staff ( every single one!!) that makes this small beach paradise close to heaven an earth. They aim for perfection, and as far as I’m concerned they hit the mark each time. Fernanda : Thank you for your hospitality and assistance. :) Paola, your genuine kind smile and effervescence is illustrative of all the staff at Beloved. You are a perfect first impression. Resort guests are treated as if they are guests in YOUR own home. We feel like family, and I miss you when I must leave. Ishmael, Luis, Roberto, Oscar, Benito, Elvis, Marisol, Sebastian, Denisse, Claudia, Carlos, Mex, Jibran are a few we know, but every member of this resort team is outstanding. I hope Excellence management acknowledges their contributions, and realize these folks are the ingredient which makes this place so very special. So yes, Beloved Playa Mujeres is as good as all the TA reviews reflect. And… maybe Trip Advisor should provide another star for evaluating this resort and the family team at Beloved.

Food and service outstanding. Staff shoutouts. Gleendy Carmen, Ramon, Rico,Dalia, Trajo and Williams the manager. There are only 4 restaurants and often one is closed so they definitely could use another. If you want tennis or pickleball you can go to the finest but they make it over complicated.

As Multiple repeat guests at all the Excellence Collection Resorts (excepting Finest), we just returned from our first stay at Beloved and we fell in love with the staff and the resort – despite the terrible weather we encountered. It starts from the TOP – GM Andrea Ruiz – whom we knew as the Assistant GM at Excellence Riveria Cancun (XRC) – she is one of the BEST that Excellence Resorts has at the helm! She is engaging, active, and the staff and guests “be-love” her! Thanks for making our visit sooo special!!! With such a small resort, the guests and staff become very “intimate” and that is very evident – especially as you check in – with Mex (who is EVERYWHERE!!!) and Juan Carlos the Bellmen, and Paola, Fernanda (Miss Neutral - very recently from XRC), and Marilyn at the Concierge Desk, to the Lobby Bar Staff of Juan and Carlos always attentive and making such great drinks, to the friendly wait staff and Restaurant Captains – Ramon (thank you for our lovely gifts), Jibran, Josue, Williams Ramirez (F & B Manager), Marco Antonio (Corporate F&B Manager), Christian, Brenda, Genrie, Luis, Ismael, and the “Team” of Brian and Pie Pad at Le Bisou, Chef Raul at Isla Trattoria (great linguini and clam sauce), Christina and Christian at Caffeto and Sommelier Lorenzo – thank you all (and many more) for such great service!! The food was “excellente!” and it was a shame we were not able to partake of dinners at El Mar and La Isla Trattoria (outdoor restaurants) due to the inclement weather, but the other restaurants provided great meals!! At Bocadito (the taco truck) we had some delicious tacos for lunch “al fresco” in a great setting – try it!! The resort is lovely, the rooms are spacious, clean and well maintained by the Housekeeping Staff. The swim-up pools are “heated”, and this enabled the guests to “enjoy”, despite the cool weather and windy conditions. Axcel – head of Entertainment - and his lovely assistant, provided this intimate resort with entertainment which included Claudia, violinists, Mexican singers, and more in such an intimate setting! It was great to see Adela and Jose (from XRC) at the Spa and we had great massages from Franciene and her amiga! Also, I cannot thank Mex (with Andrea’s blessing) enough for “carting” me back and forth to Excellence Playa Mujeres and Finest to play tennis with my Amigo Alfonso! We had a wonderful week of R&R. The strengths of this resort are that it is small, quiet, friendly, and low key. Mostly couples -- of all ages. We went with friends and although we could get a table for four, the resort is clearly geared toward couples. Lots of honeymooners! We had been told it was fancy, but I would call the dress code at dinner as "smart casual". The food was excellent. The staff were really kind, approachable and responsive. The room was very nice but not lavish which suited us. The beach was beautiful and the beach waiters were ever present for a cold drink or even a snack/meal! The spa was massive but other than the complimentary hydrotherapy we didn't use it as it was very expensive. The fitness facilities were impressive, although we mostly walked on the beach for exercise. The ocean swimming wasn't great the week we were there as it was quite windy and there was a lot of seaweed. But, over all we had an amazing holiday. I think we will go back!
