Paradise in Puerto Vallarta

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

Grand Velas Nyarit is a phenomenal resort in every single aspect. The property is beautiful, well maintained and spotless. The staff are friendly and helpful in every way possible. Our concierge helper , Dulce, was exceptional in the care she provided for us. She could not do enough to make our stay a fabulous experience. The food in the Azul buffet and in the specialty restaurants was wonderful. Our excursions were well organized and fun. This was the friendliest staff I have ever encountered from the concierge to the pool workers. They all seemed to take pride in what they do and in the resort as well. I cannot recommend a resort more highly than this one. If you go you will experience a piece of paradise.

Lovely Family Vacation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Multi-generational family vacation-grandparents in their 70s, adult children late 30s and grandchildren 7, 6, two busy 3s and 17 month old. Thursday-Monday-not long enough! Nice, safe beach, beautiful pools-kids spent 3/4 of the day in water-beach, then pool, beach again. The 17 month old would not come out of the baby pool despite blue lips and shivering. Bought water tube and a soccer ball from the beach vendors. The 7 & 6 year old boys used the tube to surf friendly waves and play soccer on the large hotel lawns. We went to all of the restaurants-all good-Piaf gorgeous and the best. Amazing presentation. Azul for lunch also very good so pace yourself at their enormous breakfast buffet. Don't miss the Mexican coffee. Service is outstanding without exception!! Especially the babysitters-they love being with children-housekeeping staff is also excellent-I appreciate a sparkling clean hotel room. Rooms are very large, all with varying ocean views. And quiet! I didn't get a chance to visit the spa, son & husband liked the gym. Also, there is a full b'ball court for rising star grandsons and their coaches. My favorite was enjoying peaceful morning coffee at sunrise listening to the waves. Lovely family vacation!

Absolutely did not meet expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Very surprised by the poor experience as expected a far superior stay based on all of the reviews. Very disappointing overall. The check in for the 3 night booking started well with very nice staff (despite them trying to charge me for 2 outstanding nights rather than 1) but after we returned after lunch as our room was not ready, we were told we had to pay an additional $50 per night for the 3 nights as our son had just turned 13 a few days beforehand. He was 12 when I booked the room, but because he was now 13 it was an extra charge - though not sure what for and it seemed very cheap when already paying over $1,500 a night. Worth noting the hotel we had just stayed in where he turned 13 did not charge anything additional. It was said in a very brusque manner by Antonio, and when we enquired if our daughter would be able to use the same kids club as her brother were told in a very rude way that she would have to be separated. This of course was very upsetting to our children and (after paying the 150), we left the reception with our daughter in tears. First time that has ever happened and I was very taken aback by the way it was handled. It then turned out our room was not ready, despite if being after check-in time, and brought up to it with our luggage. Then the bar the next evening, totally blocked by a corporate event, with loud drunk people and karaoke with no service outside. I said this to reception (and concierge the next day) and received a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine which was a nice gesture but totally not fitting the inconvenience and pretty pointless in an all-inclusive resort. Could not get a table in any of the 3 nights for the Italian restaurant. On check out, unfortunately we had Antonio again. He did not enquire as to our stay, or make any conversation. His only words were to say 'you need this card to check out'. He should be on security and not interacting with guests. Other observations - though nice in parts, the building is obviously old. Lifts take ages and shudder their way up. The hotel book in the room was very stained and dirty. Phones are all very old. There have been good attempts to spruce things up and the common areas on the ground floor and outside are lovely, but other areas in need of modernisation. There were certainly positives - good quality food and the venue was nice. Good beach and loungers (though people struggled to sit together if coming out in the afternoon as most loungers taken). Fantastic views. Very good service in the restaurants, pool and by the sea. Concierge service was a lovely addition and Gabriela was very helpful. Overall very disappointed with the experience however, and could not recommend. We have stayed in far better resorts for the same or lower price. I did raise this with the hotel before posting here - got a 'sorry for your experience' type response.

Another terrific time at the Grand Velas in Riviera Nayarit

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

What another wonderful trip to the Grand Velas in Riviera Nayarit. This the 13 th or 14th time I've been there with my cousin, and we love the hotel and the staff. Our concierge, Perla R., was incredible. All of the hotel staff are amazing; in the restaurants, housekeeping and around the pool. In Azul each morning, we were treated as good friends, and with wonderful service, by Fidel, Ricardo, Daniella, & Esmerelda. On the beach each day, we had attentive service by Francico (Rivers). Santirino & Patricia, to name just a few. Juan and Brandon were so sweet and kind. A beautiful hotel and a wonderful time!

I stayed at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit for two nights and only have wonderful things to say about the property. The staff is absolutely fantastic -- always friendly, well-trained, quick, and ready to help with anything. Everyone gets a "personal concierge" who was a real time-saver for dinner reservations, spa appointments, and general questions. The spa is clean and the treatments I had (massage, facial, and hydrotherapy circuit) were wonderful, but the hydrotherapy pool area is showing its age just a bit. Because this is the oldest Grand Velas property, I was expecting it to feel a bit run down, but it did not show its age at all. The gym is especially modern.

My suite was "resort view" but I could clearly see the ocean beyond the pool without having to crane my neck or unpack the binoculars. It is most definitely a family-friendly resort, but the adults-only areas are separate and quite relaxing. Pool and beach service are top-notch. Food quality was very good, especially the Mexican restaurant and pool/beach options. The breakfast buffet could be a bit more exciting, but I'm not a fan of buffets... if you just want an omelet, opt for room service, which is lovely. I highly recommend this resort, especially for families, but couples and singles will also love it. It's worth the price and it is a real 5-star luxury property.

Just wanted to let your staff know that after 6 nights at the Grand Velas we didn't want to leave. The staff was very attentive and the food in all three restaurants was delicious. Our room was very contemporary with a Mexican feel. We were able to lie in bed and see the ocean. I would highly recommend it and have already.
