Dreams Royal Preferred 25th anniversary celebration

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I surprised my hubby and took him here for our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary in the preferred oceanfront suite and it was so good. I would return but only as a preferred guest. The elevated service was worth the extra money. Emmanuel our concierge was THE BESTTTTTTTT. I cannot express how much he made our trip even more seamless. I will be returning with a few friends and I will personally be requesting him. Other than a few issues with the TV in the room not working a few times and some issues with room service. I loved the peace and tranquility of the property.

We stayed at Dreams Royal Beach punta cana for 10 great nights. There were so soo many things that we loved about this trip, and we would definitely return/recommend to friends or family. The property for this hotel is GORGEOUS. The beach is spectacular, and if you’re a beach person like I am, you’ll want to lay on the beach all day long. The water was perfect, area was always well kept, and we were always closely attended to by the staff. I highly recommend getting up to watch the sunrise on the beach one morning- it is an unforgettable experience and is so incredibly gorgeous!! We also loved the entertainment on the beach, we participated constantly and it was such a nice fun touch. They had bachata/meringue lessons for a couple days, soccer, volleyball, and lots more. The only thing to note, which I know is pretty standard.. are the vendors on the beach. My partner and I learned very quickly to just politely decline and not engage too much in conversation, or we wouldn't be left alone. We definitely understand that the vendors are people who are just trying to make a living, feed their families, etc.. so we tried to not let it bother us too much. The sand was beautiful and white and although it was high tide and there was some seaweed washing up on shore, the grounds were constantly cleaned and well kept. There were always lots of chairs to choose from, and they didn’t fill up in the morning as quickly as we expected them to. We always had a nice spot on the beach regardless of the time we decided to go. Something else to note, is that there are also reps from the excursion companies who are constantly asking if you’d like to go on an excursion- we booked the saona island excursion through one of the guys on the beach. Although it was gorgeous and we were beyond glad we did it, we wished we had booked it in advance through air transat when booking our trip. The details/transportation of our excursion were slightly unorganized.. and we know that it would’ve flowed much smoother if we had booked with a more reliable source. Nonetheless, we enjoyed it tremendously and don’t regret it at all. The pools were fantastic! Lots of sunny chairs, lots of shaded areas, and so so much fun. We absolutely adored just how many beautiful pools there were at this hotel. The main pool was very lively- with constant music, entertainment, and a fantastic swim up bar. If we wanted to relax more, we went to the infinity pool. Where we found was always quieter, less people, and still had an amazing swim up bar. We also enjoyed the fact that the pools didn’t close, and we went for night swims almost every night. We always had the area all to ourselves, and it was the most aesthetically gorgeous area with trees, greenery, and time all to ourselves. The rooms were amazing as well. We opted out of the preferred, which by the end of our trip we had wished we decided to go for it. My partner and I are young (21 and 23), but if we were travelling with kids, we would definitely upgrade. We made friends with lots of guests at the hotel, and they all said that preferred was well worth the upgrade. There are many more pool options, dining options, and better service with preferred. I think the area we would have benefited from doing preferred is the service and communication. There is definitely a significant language barrier in the Dominican and we were very aware of that all along. It’s just that we found it a little difficult to get a hold of anyone from the front desk, especially regarding transportation, room service, etc. Many people (preferred) we spoke to while at the hotel said that they had experienced no issues and that their butler took care of everything- from dinner reservations to rides, to any other general requests. So we will definitely bear that in mind next time! The food I would definitely rate a 7.5/10. I think due to the fact that we were there for 10 days, we were growing a bit tired of the options by the end of our trip.. we had a few places we loved and a few places we tried once and didn’t return to. We loved the mexican restaurant, the asian fusion, and the room service! They were all great and we had absolutely no complaints. We didn’t love portofino, and we weren’t crazy about the buffet either, but we always found something that appealed to us as there was always a wide array of food at the buffet. I would definitely recommend travelling with a little insurance policy if you tend to have a more sensitive stomach- and I don’t think that is exclusive to dreams, just in general when travelling anywhere in the south! I would also recommend travelling with more american cash than you think you would need. We always liked to leave tips for our bartenders, housekeeping, and staff all over the resort when eating at the restaurants. We had to take out more cash from the secrets lobby, and if you’re Canadian- the exchange, plus the service fee charged is pretty steep. Also bear in mind that there is a language barrier and try to be as concise as possible when talking about amounts and currencies. We definitely learned our lesson while taking out our American cash. We were slightly frustrated because unfortunately they took out the wrong amount from my account ($200 US instead of $220 US) even though I had discussed the amount we needed many times. To take out more, it was a minimum of $100 US plus another service fee. Needless to say, we learned an expensive lesson that day, and to always go with enough cash. We definitely took responsibility for that miscommunication! The staff at dreams are great, always friendly, smiling, and attentive. They work so hard, and there are constantly people serving you whether you are at the beach, pool, restaurants, etc. The grounds were also tended to every day and were incredibly well maintained. We went to dreams to disconnect and relax, and I would definitely say it lived up to our expectations! We also tried out the night club at secrets a couple nights, which is a great atmosphere and is as fun as you make it. My partner and I are from toronto, so we’re accustomed to a very lively night life, but it was still fun and we enjoyed it. Overall, I would rate dreams an 8.5/10. We will definitely return as preferred members and make even more memories!! Thank you so much Dreams for a beautiful vacation that we will be thinking about until we take another one!

This was such a fun experience! The location was beautiful, staff so friendly, and amenities were lovely. Food and drinks was amazing too! I would definitely return and hope to enjoy this amazing country (and excellent resort) again. We opted for the preferred meme worship and appreciated some of the exclusive amenities and quieter areas to enjoy.

Not worth it

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The grounds are beautiful, and the employed very good. And that is the best things I can say about this Hyatt. First problem we encountered wad the WiFi modem and telephone inoperable. They tried to fix it 4 different days, and would always say they had to check something in the equipment room and would be back, which never occurred. No phone meant no way to contact room service, anyone if an emergency happened. On the third day there, we went on an excursion and we've returned early evening, the room had not been cleaned. We contacted housekeeping and when someone came, we were showering and they acted as if we were going to let them in. We told the to come back later. They did a quick job on the room, and left one of the blankets on the couch, a long with a wet pillow. The food overall was poor, with only the Salmon at the Oceans restaurant excellent. Everything else we tried was of poor quality, including the buffet. The things that happened should not happen at resort like this.

Dreams, Royal Beach Punta. Cana is a fabulous place to stay.

We had a great time at dreams Royal Beach. The food was very good, the rooms were very comfortable and clean. The drinks were all international brands. The service was very exceptional. Our concierge Marcelo helped us with anything we needed as we travelled with two elderly family members, the only thing I would say that they can Improve upon Is the wheelchairs are not very good. New and more comfortable wheelchairs for seniors. The beach was beautiful. The water was A little rough at times, But was still very much fun. I would definitely do the preferred again. I think it was worth the money. Thank you and we will be back.
