About the Hotel

Tucked away on gently sloping, tropical beachfront on the northwest coast of the island, Calabash Cove is one of a few luxury boutique hotels on St. Lucia. Nestled in the sheltered bay of Bonaire Estate, Calabash Cove is perched on a hillside sloping gently towards the Caribbean Sea, where cool ocean breezes provide a wonderful respite and the turquoise sea is offset by the vibrant green of tropical vegetation and views of Walcott Island. A secluded beach sheltered by a nearby coral reef provides the perfect place to rest, reflect and dream. The resort has been designed with great care to complement and exist in harmony with the beauty of its natural surroundings. The main buildings of the hotel, such as the lobby, restaurant, bar, sanctuary, and infinity pool with waterfall offer stunning ocean views, with the Watersedge Cottages amidst lush vegetation perfectly situated to view nightly sunsets.

Calabash Cove

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

If you're looking for a chilled out time away in the sun, this place is for you. Calabash is pretty quiet, no late night parties. But the place is lovely. Great beach with free kayaks, paddle boards etc. Friendly staff and excellent food. It's quite remote is the only downside. You'll be looking at taxis to get to anywhere else on the island.

Two full weeks, no regrets.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Ok. Where to start as we stayed two full weeks. I’ll start by pointing out it was full capacity both weeks. Most flights arrive Saturday afternoon so we took the helicopter over. Pretty cool. Luggage arrived about an hour later. We decided to take the CCR private black car service back (included for us) to kill time before the flight home. 1. It was great. We had what I think was the best cottage, privacy, quiet, beautiful views, comfortable, clean, easy access to everything. Outdoor shower was the best. Always hot water, gorgeous moon or sun. Plunge pool. Killer views and perpetual sound of crashing waves and bird songs all day. Mosquitoes were pretty much non existent but we did get little ankle bites, probably at the beach. Put it this way, many nights I watched tv in the cottage with all doors open and wind blowing through. I mean, that’s the heavenly stuff I’ll miss. It did rain mostly at night but anytime it did during the day, and it could come down, the trade winds would blow it out in minutes and the sun was back and everything dry minutes later. 2. We never left, except once to go to Keebee’s to watch a 1/4 of the superbowl (watched rest from the comfort of our cottage) and once to do a private, afternoon (sunset), catamaran. Which was pretty fun. I always rent a car to explore but chose not to this trip. Too many reviews about the two roads and traffic. It’s the only thing that stopped me. I bumped into others at the airport that stayed in resorts near us and they said the ride to dinner, leaving their resorts, was a couple hours each way. Huh? No thanks. 3. We ate every meal at the Windsong restaurant. Breakfasts were great (mostly did room service), lunches were ok, dinners mostly great. We ate most dinners in the restaurant and a couple on the cottage deck. We did the all inclusive. Never needed a reservation. Always a table open and usually the front row. A couple times we’d wait at the bar no more than 10 minutes for one to open. At their suggestion. We would have gone second row. 4. Regarding the AI. I was worried about hours open, did we have snacks etc. Not only was the food plentiful, we were skipping meals by day 3. It wasn’t doable to have the awesome eggs Benedict in the morning, lunch a few hours later and dinner day after day. While consuming crazy amounts of booze 🤣 which we slowed way down as well. Under the AI we had choice of 750 ml bottles in the room in addition to the mini bar with beers and sodas and juices. The wife loves cosmos so they went and found Cointreau to swap in. Swapped in Tito’s for the stoli’s etc. So, you can see you can be perpetually consuming 🫠 should you choose. We also didn’t realize for a couple days, the daily specials published at noon can be lunch as well, room served or restaurant. Meaning, the dinner lobster special can be ordered for lunch etc. We thought it was just for dinner specials. Every meal delivered to the room took about 40 minutes on average. Not bad and expected so we’d order accordingly. Meals in the restaurant took about the same. For anyone to complain is nuts. These people and this place drains you of stress and anxiety from minute 1 so just relax mahn! 😀 You’re on vacation! In the end, the AI was a better deal for the resort than us because they just give you so much of everything you can’t ask for more. I mean you can. But physically, we couldn’t. Unconditional all inclusive is an understatement. For anyone that wins with the AI, god bless you and your waist size! All that said, I’m not sure we’d change it. The unconditional and not carrying money was best ever, though this was out first trying AI. And remember, we’d planned to not leave the resort too making the decision easy. And for dress, I brought a few pairs of chinos and glad I did. I struggled with this too. Did they really want me wearing “trousers” every night! I didn’t want to pack pants and nice shoes. But glad I did. Couple linen shirts or polos to finish it off, slip on shoes. I felt better. I saw others in shorts and not sure our experience in comfort was different. It was warm but the trade winds are constant. I just felt better because I know this is important to the resort because they aren’t just a restaurant for us, but the whole island and it does feel upscale to what we saw for the restaurants in Castries and Rodney etc. So, can you wear shorts? Sure. To the British review somewhere over the years calling out Americans for being uncouth, darling, it was your majesty’s finest this trip coming up in shorts and untucked. I represented us dastardly cads from ‘merica well 😀. Just saying. 5. Staff. Oh boy. Everyone to a person was magnificent. I have all the names written down. But I also don’t need to reference as I remember them all easily. After 2 weeks, we felt pretty close to many and had lots of laughs and genuine conversations about us, them, the island, our home, their home and more. I was invited out with them a few times to hang out but declined because it was mostly towards the end of our trip. Had I been there 3 weeks? Oh boy would I have lol. One of the ”local” happenings seemed super interesting and fun, no tourists. Maybe next time Leonis. 😉 We’ve been to many island vacations around the world. Hands down, the St Lucia folks are the most genuine and sincere in their happiness and warmth. It’s a testament to their way of life. Which outside the resort is tough. But they are hands down the best we’ve experienced. The room service crew was great. The cleaning staff great. Bartenders great. Maintenance and pool staff great. Landscapers great. Restaurant great. Front desk great. Everyone was great! 6. Tipping. Oh boy I wrestled with this a lot. Don’t see a lot about it. Unconditional all inclusive is not a joke. There are 10% vat charges and 13% service already built in. I was concerned about not tipping room service, at dinner, room service clean up and more. But management made sure I didn’t worry. Promoted the unconditional to us again. Said the staff are pros and they’ve been doing this 16 years. So we tipped the room cleaner every day. We tipped the luggage down and up. We tipped for the massages. We’d tip for something out of the ordinary (like finding us the special ask Cointreau) but that was it. We got comfortable soon and no one EVER treated us differently. We would have easily paid hundreds more in tips because these people are all over you to help on anything you could ever want or need at anytime of the day or night. The unconditional all inclusive was pretty amazing to say for a second time, we don’t regret doing it. 7. Beach and pool. Two weeks. I didn’t go in the pool once. Not because of anything wrong with it. It looked as good as the pictures. We spent most of our time at the beach but also the cottage. I had my own plunge pool! The few times I’d walk by the pool, there was hardly anyone in it. The most I saw was 6 people in, usually sitting on the in pool bar stools. The people were mostly older and from across the pond, but also saw a few younger couples. Now the beach. Hmmm. I saw another post about the chairs. I hate to say it, but this was a “bad” couple weeks for selfishness. Meaning, by 8-9 am, there were towels and books blocking the limited beach bungalows. 4 on the left, 3 on the right. These same people would saunter down around 10, leave for a 2 hour lunch with their stuff still reserving the spot. Too bad being such a small place with so many places to hang out. Room, pool, tucked away chairs and hammocks. I just wish they’d have had some empathy for others. Like your other 26 rooms of people. Not 100. You had the beach chairs for hours. Some of you day after day. Just share and give them up here and there for someone else to have the experience. You know who you are if you’re reading this. Shame on you all! I did notice something else you don’t see in the pictures. All the grass chairs, with blue umbrellas were jammed all day too. However, as much as I wag the finger, these selfish people didn’t bother us. We had the beach time we needed (mostly empty by 2-3 pm), and we had our private plunge pool. I did notice all the “good” pool side chairs were occupied too pretty quickly. Again, busy time of year, full capacity. Just saying all this because many posts make it sound like at full capacity, you see tumbleweeds blowing by and no one around. All that said, we still hardly saw nor bumped into anyone so at full capacity, it’s still intimate. And I’m sure people were off doing outside resort activities too. Just can’t dodge those beach chair nuts. I guess they’re just programmed to take take take. 8. I can go on. Just trying to cover things I was thinking of prior to arriving. Hope this helps others. It’s a wonderful place. I can see us grabbing a few couples of friends and renting out a bunch of rooms. I can easily see us going back as many others have done. I can see easily renting the whole place for a wedding or something. If I can be in a place this small, with hardly leaving, for 2 full weeks without going nuts, then to me, it’s pretty awesome. I was soooooooo stressed free and relaxed in hours. (I should add I literally retired at 58 from my career the day before we arrived and this was just what the doctor ordered for kicking it off with some immediate separation in a great headspace). Thank you Calabash Cove staff. You’re as awesome as the reviews say. I’ll end this way, if people reading the reviews see anything negative, I’ll bet its more about the person doing the review. Just saying. Like the recent post whining about kids. Remember the beaches are public and yes, you can get a couple local families, usually after 4 pm and maybe a couple more on weekend days. But cmon. Complaining about a couple little kids? Meanie! The resort even has them stay down the beach in “their own spot” away from the prestigious ninnies. Cheers to Calabash! Thanks Konrad. Wish we saw you but never got the chance. I was watching the sunsets each of your Monday get togethers. Next time! 🙃 Here are some of those pictures! Enjoy ☺️

Excellent for complete relaxation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Anyone wanting complete relaxation in an extremely well laid out small high quality resort should look no further. Excellent friendly service from all the staff. Nothing too much trouble. The food was all of high quality and very well presented and tasty. Premium drinks were a plus. We went all inclusive which made it very easy although you do have to sign rather than just wear a wristband which would have made it easier. The views were outstanding particularly from the restaurant and bar areas and the small beach very clean. Anyone with mobility issues may struggle as there are quite a few steps and no lifts.

NOT Adults Only!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

It’s is NOT an Adults Only hotel despite the declaration on all its literature & tourist adverts! We are currently staying here specifically because we want a quiet holiday & are dismayed to find that the management allow non-resident children to come into the restaurant & use the beach along with their resulting cries. We are grandparents, if we had wanted children around we would have brought our own grandchildren. Beware, if you want peace & quiet away from the kids do not book this hotel.

Lovely hotel - very remote

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The resort is lovely. The front staff is very accommodating and friendly. Rohan was exceptional. Our room was fantastic and was kept very clean. The hotel was well kept. The restaurant has a lovely view. The food was okay. Beach chairs were unavailable in the morning due to guests placing their belongings on their chairs and not returning until hours later. Need additional chairs. The drive from the international airport was about 2 hours and the hotel is remote. If you want to go outside of the grounds, Calabash will arrange for a taxi at a cost.
