Reviews for Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos

Wonderful Place

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

Really a fantastic place! Beautiful property and fantastic staff. Felt very personal as all the staff was very attentive and went out of their way to learn your name throughout the stay. Food is wonderful on the property and having access to the GV restaurants was nice for variety. Will definitely plan on retuning!

Spoiler: The Word is Personable

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

My wife and I spent four nights at the Grand Velas Boutique Hotel in Los Cabos the last week of February 2026. Grand Velas properties play an important role in my family’s vacation memories. Before a trip to a new one, I dive deep into the Tripadvisor reviews, but my wife does not. She arrived at the resort with no preconceived notions. By mid-day on the second day, she concluded that every aspect of the resort was “next level.” This, coupled with the deluge of other positive reviews here, probably tells you all you need to know: if you are looking for a relaxing, luxury vibe and it is within your means, you will have an awesome experience. Our adult kids were so jealous of our stories that I am now working on trying to make a summer visit happen. That said, I always like to see if I can add some details that may be helpful, so here is the extended version. The rest of the review (warning: long) The hallmark of the Velas brand is their people, and the GVBH is no exception. In fact, it may be the rule. I challenged myself to see if one word could encapsulate their ethos. I tried but failed. First, everyone is professional. Each person appears to take pride in their work and operates at a high level. As you encounter the staff while walking the property, they will, without fail, acknowledge you and pause what they are doing until you pass. But they are also warm. Everyone smiles and seems at ease. I’m sure there is tension and stress behind the scenes at times, but the guest experience carries a lightness that comes with being around friendly people. This seems to carry over to the guests as well. There is something to be said about riding in elevators where everyone is happy and strangers are conversing, usually about how nice GVBH is. Lastly, for lack of a better word, the staff is engaged. Whenever possible, they address you by your name. My last name has a pesky silent letter. It would be easy for them to take their best guess and move on (and I’m fine with any attempt), but each person would ask if they had it correct. They also proactively offer advice when they think it would make your experience better, even though they could easily stay quiet. I’ll provide more details later. So, perhaps three words? “Engaged professional warmth?” Maybe I’ll ask AI sometime. At each stage of the experience, the GVBH team tries to add just a little extra. When we checked in, we were brought to the lobby-level bar / breakfast coffee venue where the seating was comfortable with a beautiful view. The welcome drink, a Kir Royale, was prepared table-side, with a berry garnish -- capped off by a dusting of a golden powder. I had some pre-arrival communication with Concierge Monica, Director General Mr. Torres, and Resident Manager Ms. Canul. It was a nice touch that Monica and Mr. Torres stopped by to greet us during our check-in. I think that the top-tier quality of the resort directly reflects the care and dedication shown by Mr. Torres and Ms. Canul. From that point until we left, we essentially just enjoyed relaxing by the pool, enjoying the wonderful food and drink, and sleeping. Every aspect was exceptional. It was through these everyday moments that we met some of the great people at GVBH. We first ate at the restaurant in the pool area, Roca Snack & Bar which is the most “fine dining” I have seen of its type. It has an elevated location with great views of the Sea of Cortez. Like the other restaurants, it had its own specialty cocktails and even an amuse bouche. Our server, Lucera gave us a warm welcome and great info on the resort. After we had ordered, she mentioned that the shrimp tacos were her favorite, so we added an order of them to share. They were the best dish at that meal. This struck me because GVBH is all-inclusive: this wasn’t an upsell, she was just recommending something that might improve our experience. We had the same experience at Loto Robata Grill where our server suggested the short rib gyozas, at Sen Lin with the pork belly dumplings, and, on our last night, Raphael Martinez was a great guide to maximizing our choices at Velas 10. As a Michelin-starred restaurant, Cocina de Autor shoulders the burden of great expectations. We are fortunate to have dined at a variety of Michelin rated establishments, and Cocina de Autor deserves the accolade. One difference I noted was that the experience was less performative than I was used to. Instead of fleets of people, the presentation was more intimately centered around a main server. We found this to be a benefit, since Alfonso was awesome in indulging our foodie geekiness, including introducing us to the chef. I was dubious about a corn soup, but I mentioned to the chef that I thought the corn velouté could be the best corn soup in the country. We also were visited by the chef at Sen Lin and Loto Robata, which was fun. The four restaurants at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit all have AAA four-diamond ratings, so I am curious why the other eateries in Los Cabos appear to be unranked. I certainly believe they are worthy of consideration. Breakfast at Del Mar is a study in quality over quantity. The buffet is relatively small compared to the larger resorts, but the items cover everything you would expect to find. There is also a made-to-order egg and chilaquiles station. A la carte is also available. Many of the dishes are plated as if they are being presented a la carte. I still think of the French toast. Instead of thin slices, it is prepared as a bar two inches on a side. Somehow, they manage to keep a consistent texture throughout. One day, the French toast was not at the buffet. We had Omar Duarte for our server for several days, and on that day, he noticed and had the kitchen whip up a batch for us. The staff also pays close attention to every detail. The hostess at Sen Lin asked if we were celebrating an occasion, we rambled on about how we wanted to travel around our birthdays, but that they were a month ago. The next day, our concierge Berenice had a birthday cake delivered to our room. The majority of our time each day was spent at the pool, and the team there works seamlessly to take care of everything. The superstar on the deck for us was Christian Fernandez: we had him for our server several days and, in addition to drinks and food, he carries supplies to periodically clean your sunglasses. During our stay, there were always loungers available and no need to reserve a spot any time of the day. There are ample umbrellas and the pool staff are happy to make your space as sunny or not as you like. The pools are a nested infinity design with hot tubs on either side of the pool. The one side that is more in the sun has a large umbrella. There is poolside service and a swimup bar. Grand Velas publishes the available liquor brands they serve so I won’t list them, but, as always, the choices are top-shelf. One notable difference was that I’ve noticed that Mexican all-inclusives tend to be weaker on bourbons, but GVBH has Makers Mark and Woodford Reserve. There is also a menu of top-tier, non-inclusive liquors if you are looking to splurge (or just have the budget for the best). The food at the pool had a reasonable variety and was tasty. I liked the portions were modest, as I don’t like to waste food. The dishware is also clever. The lid doubles as additional plate. The cups are reusable and biodegradable straws are available by request. One reminder: to get the higher quality liquor, you need to ask for it by name. If you ask for a “Cosmo,” you’ll get the standard vodka used at the bar, but asking for a “Ketel One Cosmo” will get you the premium drink. Tipping is included in the all-inclusive price; however, there is no restriction on it. When you sign the bill for each meal or session at the pool, there is a discreet line that allows you to add a tip to be charged to your room. I never felt any pressure or expectation to tip and appreciation was always expressed. I did tip and I hope you do too. The staff works very hard and what better way is there to make their lives better while they are enhancing yours? My preference is to tip in cash and in pesos. This time, my bank only sent me large bills, but the front desk had sufficient funds to break a larger bill each day for me. The third law of thermodynamics guides me to accept that perfection is impossible (yes, I am a nerd and I stretch my analogies a bit), so here are the ever so slightly suboptimal things I noticed that may be pertinent to some people (or just struck me as things that could be a little better). The resort is close to a busy road, which could be heard in our suite at times, along with other rooms’ doors closing and people talking in the halls (ambassador suite on the 8th floor). These didn’t bother us, but people who are very sensitive to noise might inquire about locations in the resort that are the quietest. I imagine that the higher floors and the premium building close to the pool / beach would be quieter (or at least waves instead of cars). Speaking of sound levels, there is music at the pool that emanates from speakers mounted on the pool bar. I found the levels to be reasonable, definitely on the quieter side, but if you are looking for no music or a party atmosphere, you could be disappointed. The music was an interesting mix of popular songs from the last five decades that seemed to be soft-rockified covers. People with mobility concerns may wish to consider that the amenities at GVBH and the neighboring Grand Velas resort are spread vertically on many levels, so elevator rides are common, often with a bit of travel between elevators. Golf cart transport to the other property is available, and we encountered very little waiting. We walked one time and the path was protected and the distance was short. The desserts seemed to me to be the least refined dining aspect from a construction perspective. Also, the restaurants base the desserts on the authentic dishes for that cuisine. While I enjoy it, this can result in dessert options that can all be an acquired taste. So, for example, Sen Lin may have sweet sticky rice and mango or cardamom ice cream. A diner encountering them for the first time may find the taste and texture to be a departure from what they expect in a dessert. Finally, some true nitpicking: the amuse bouches all seemed to be a fried ball of some form (except for Cocina de Autor which is in a class of its own). They were plated nicely, and they each featured a flavor you would associate with the restaurant’s cuisine, but I would like to have more variety and a bit more surprise. Hey, this is a review of a luxury resort! I guess it needs an ultimate example of pedantry, so I will end it there. Oh, one last thing, I did ask AI about that single word I was looking for to sum up the GVBH experience: it suggested “personable.” I concur.

Grand Velas Botique unlocked the best experience!

Berenice was super helpful and checked on us everyday. She helped ensure our room had everything we needed. She made reservations for dinner to ensure we had a place to eat every night. When we wanted to buy gifts and the market was closed, she was so generous and purchased different gifts for us. Berenice was so thoughtful and caring. As for the amenities, everything was super clean and accessible. The atmosphere was calming and we feel refreshed after a week long retreat at the Grand Vela Boutique.

A luxurious, serene escape with flawless service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Our stay at Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the level of service set a new standard—warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful in every detail. The all-inclusive experience here is on another level. Every meal felt curated, with outstanding quality, creativity, and presentation. The hotel itself is beautifully designed: modern, elegant, and impeccably clean. There’s a sense of calm and happiness throughout the property that makes it incredibly easy to unwind. One of the biggest advantages is access to the neighboring Grand Velas resort. Being able to enjoy additional restaurants, pools, and the spa expands the experience even further, while still returning to the more intimate, peaceful atmosphere of the boutique hotel. And the views… absolutely spectacular.
