About the Hotel
We are an iconic designer 5 STAR boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills famous for our luxury escapes, three hat fine dining restaurant, indulgent day spa experiences, conference retreats and breathtakingly beautiful weddings. Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 by prominent statesman Arthur Hardy as his summer house. Arthur Hardy is reminiscent of a South Australian Jay Gatsby; indeed his wife Martha described their lifestyle as ‘a kind of feudal splendour’. Their beautiful manor soon became the state’s premier address for lavish and infamous parties for Adelaide’s elite of the day. From such lofty beginnings the manor was passed through a number of South Australian families, including a period as commune in the 1970s. In the disastrous 1983 fires of Ash Wednesday Mount Lofty House was burnt to the ground before rising from the ashes like a phoenix to truly become one of South Australia’s great icons.

Relaxed stay for a visiting couple in their 60's
Wonderful staff who truly endeavoured to create a unique stay. Great location. Relaxed vibe. We even saw koala in the neighbouring eucalyptus trees. Access to 2km walking trail to summit of Mount Lofty. The walk was mild to moderately difficult. The welcome lemonade was very refreshing and having another after the hike was highly anticipated.

Thoughtful and accommodating
So accommodating. We had an early flight and would miss breakfast but the receptionist arranged for a breakfast to be packed up for us when we checked out. It was my partner’s birthday and our room was upgraded without charge. He will have a birthday to remember. Immaculate room and surroundings

Would highly recommend for a special occasion
Can not fault the extraordinary staff, the gorgeous room or the food. A small amount of maintenance was happening around the property but it had little impact on our stay. Beware of the cookies in the library - it is impossible to stop at just one 😋

Great Special Occasion Venue
This was for a milestone birthday and met our hopes. From the initial welcome to the fascinating history talk and tour, to the amazing meals, it was a thoroughly enjoyable two day stay. The bed was extremely comfortable. I strongly recommend this venue, it is like being in a special country home, with all sorts of nooks to stop and enjoy the views.

If you want to experience something special, Mt Lofty House is it!
If you’re looking for a special place to stay then Mt Lofty is it! My husband and I stayed there for our 20th wedding anniversary and it far exceeded our expectations. From the Welcome Tour with Chris with complimentary champagne or champagne cocktails to the most beautiful room we have ever stayed in, everything was just perfect! We didn’t want to leave! I could have sat and enjoyed the view for days! You won’t be disappointed!
