About the Hotel

We are an iconic designer 5 STAR boutique hotel in the Adelaide Hills famous for our luxury escapes, three hat fine dining restaurant, indulgent day spa experiences, conference retreats and breathtakingly beautiful weddings. Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 by prominent statesman Arthur Hardy as his summer house. Arthur Hardy is reminiscent of a South Australian Jay Gatsby; indeed his wife Martha described their lifestyle as ‘a kind of feudal splendour’. Their beautiful manor soon became the state’s premier address for lavish and infamous parties for Adelaide’s elite of the day. From such lofty beginnings the manor was passed through a number of South Australian families, including a period as commune in the 1970s. In the disastrous 1983 fires of Ash Wednesday Mount Lofty House was burnt to the ground before rising from the ashes like a phoenix to truly become one of South Australia’s great icons.

Reviews for Mount Lofty House Boutique Estate

A little piece of paradise here on earth.

Mount Lofty House hotel and the guest services team never fail to provide an exceptional and " Good for the soul ", experience. Staying there feels like an intimate, "family " occasion, yet the team manage to do this, whilst conducting themselves with the utmost professionalism. This sounds like a contradiction, yet the team achieves it time after time. My sincerest thanks for another blissful stay.

Weekend away

Very excellent service, as one would expect from an establishment of this high repute. Staff very accommodating, from front of house to 'behind the scenes' people. Chocolate biscuits along with champagne on arrival very much appreciated.

A Wonderful Estate

A beautiful property set amoungst picture perfect grounds. Every part of our stay was faultless, but above everything else the service was next level. The room was not huge but had a lovely ambience with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The toiletries were Jurlique ... a very Adelaide touch. The food and service in the restaurant was 5 star. Congratulations Mount Lofty House on creating such a stunning escape only minutes from the city.

Brilliant stay!

We stayed for 2 nights in mid-December. It was brilliant from start to finish. We arrived early and were immediately shown to the bar where we had coffees with a great view whilst they sorted our room out. We had booked High Tea which was great - with lots of food (sweet and savoury) and an exceptional selection of teas. Service was great with everything well explained. Our room (a Picadilly Valley room) was stunning, it includes old features but with all the modern amenities needed - air con, mini bar etc. The view over the Picaddily Valley was incredible with a sunrise to die for! Overall the food was great. Breakfast was a particular highlight and the tasting menu in the HVR was great. The second dining option in Martha's restruarant is in the room behind the main restaurant so felt a little bit strange but the food was pleasant enough. The spa was excellent - so much so my other half went twice! Highly recommend the house tour and visiting venues on the Adventure Trail. Deviation Road, Grunthal Brewery and Howard were highlights. Take the map/print out with you to get the discounts. We also walked up to Mount Lofty summit and saw a wallaby! The view of Adelaide was amazing - recommend going early in the morning due to the heat.

Outstanding Quality

We stayed overnight and they hosted my Aunties 80th Birthday High Tea the next day. She came all the way from America. The whole experience blew us away! The personalised customer service was the best I have ever experienced. The rooms were simply amazing, they could not do enough for us, it was comfort like nothing else we have experienced here or overseas. The food was exceptional from the room service, through to breakfast and then the high tea. My Aunty said the highlight of her trip was the overnight stay and her birthday high tea at Mt Lofty House! We could not fault anything! Highly highly recommend this stunning venue and accommodation.
