Immerse yourself in lush tropical beauty, surrounded by 40 acres of vibrant landscape high above Costa Rica's Central Valley, and soak in the sunny skies of Xandari Resort & Spa. Just outside of San Jose, this amazing resort - with approximately three miles of scenic trails, a river and waterfalls - will show you the true wonder of Central America. Stunning guest villas offer flowing architecture that winds through the gardens and creates a modern-meets-tropical design that is at once elegantly stunning and gracefully tranquil. Bright and open rooms are spacious and breezy, with gleaming tiled floors, pure white walls, and vivid colorful accents - all tied in to the rich wood décor and furniture. Brilliant natural light streams in through large sliding glass doors, while the views from private garden terraces will truly take your breath away.

Xandari is on a hill overlooking Alejuela and San Jose, including SJO airport. The views are spectacular, but planes taking off from SJO and heading north fly right overhead at about 5000 feet or so, climbing with their engines at full throttle. My wife and I stayed here the night before departing SJO to return home after a 12-day stay in Costa Rica. We arrived around 7pm after a long ride (via private shuttle) from Monteverde. Dinner and breakfast were both pretty good, and we enjoyed the view both from the restaurant and our room (a Prima Plus with king bed). I booked the hotel 2 days before our stay, after canceling our reservation at the Courtyard near SJO (where we stayed the night we arrived at SJO, but where the beds were much too firm for my comfort, and the cost was going to be $300 for the night). We got the last room available - a Prima Plus with king bed - for only $200, and were delighted to see the fabulous view from the room, which we did not see mentioned or shown in photos on the hotel web site (I would not be surprised if all the rooms have fabulous views). The room was spacious and well appointed. As others have noted, there is no A/C, but there are ceiling fans and 1-foot high screened windows with louvers at the top of nearly every door and wall surface, providing pretty good ventilation. Unfortunately, the curtains cover those windows when closed, so we decided to open the doors (which do not have screens) for a while to "pre-cool" the room before closing things down at bed time. I do not remember hearing any planes after dinner (which we finished up around 9:30 or 10pm), but the first one flew right overhead around 5:15am the next morning, and there were at least 2 more that overflew the hotel before 6am. Fortunately, I was on an early schedule, trying to see sunrises (as well as sunsets) throughout the trip wherever I could, so this was not terribly disruptive. My wife said she didn't even hear the planes (she was sleeping with earplugs). The hotel arranged a private shuttle to SJO the next morning, which took less than half an hour. The shuttle cost was $45, but the total was still less than we would have paid at the Courtyard had we kept to our original plan, the view and the onsite food was much better, and despite the noise from the planes, we were generally happy with our stay at Xandari.

Beautiful spa with magnificent views, inside the Xandari resort. Exceptional deep tissue massage by Irene, who really knows what she is doing. My painful shoulder feels like new! Very pleasant products using Costa Rican plants. Highly recommend.

Good place to relax on arrival in Costa Rica. Nice walks (although couldn’t get to waterfall because of landslip). Comfy room, good food and excellent spa on(thank you Irene and Deumi). Occasional noise from aircraft but not to frequent to be a real nuisance.

Amazing spa and resort! Gorgeous location, delicious restaurant and relaxing spa. The staff are the friendliest and the amenities are incredible. Carla at reception made us feel so welcome. Mario at dinner was very knowledgable about wine and we had a blast learning from him. Irene and Jennifer provided amazing bamboo massages and full body mud mask treatments. My sister and I had the best time at Xandari for our first time in Costa Rica.

Stayed here for one night - close to SJO airport and a very comfortable and beautiful property. Highly recommend the spa services - had an organic facial with Deymi and it was absolutely worth it! Added a jacuzzi soak. The products are local and organic and I am thrilled with the experience!

We love Xandari. You have the perfect combination of elegance and comfort, without the pretension and over solicitousness of other comparable hotels.

We have never been to a place where the imprint of human creativity is so well balanced with the beauty of nature.

My experience at Xandari has been more than value...it's about personal warmth and touch. Gentility is a rare treasure in the service industry. Costa Rica offers this on many levels and Xandari exceeds it.

“Travel Dates: March 24-28, 2013 Room: Villa 3 We are from the States. We chose Xandari based upon ratings from the trip advisor website, its proximity to the San Jose airport and its centrally located position (w/r/t to the country as a whole). We chose to rent a vehicle (easy to drive in Costa Rica as long as u have a 4x4 vehicle and a GPS)- would recommend limited night time driving. Xandari was an oasis set on the hillside with beautiful views of San Jose. The first night we arrived, we were greeted by the bellman and hotel desk staff. We were quickly whisked away to our room. We had an Ultra villa, which was more than enough room for me and my wife. The room had a small collection of ants near the screen door (my wife is terrified of bugs so this was more of an issue for her). The staff was extremely apologetic and quickly made arrangements to transfer us to another room. They did so within 15 minutes and we failed to have another complaint. Service at the restaurant was great, especially given the laissez-faire attitudes of most Costa-Ricans. The grounds were well maintained. The staff was extremely attentive and responsive to any request. The rooms were cleaned well by the maids. The bed, at least in my unit, was comfortable. Things to note: No air-condition, but they do have fans upon request (it gets quite cool at night, so this wasn't a significant issue for us). No TVs in the room, but they do have one in the main house (more of an issue if u like to keep up on your sports, etc while on vacation). Mild-moderate amount of insects outside of your rooms, but keep in mind the resort is set in a hill side jungle, replete with water falls, etc so this should be expected”
