The building now known as Hospes Amerigo went through many incarnations before it turned into a sleek, design-centric hotel in the heart of Alicante. It was first the Dominican Convent of Alicante before morphing into an office block and an apartment complex, and its history imbues the hotel with distinction. Bold details, such as geometrically abstract silk wall hangings, complement a neutral color scheme, while the rooftop restaurant and spa complex draws guests day and night. Alicante’s nightlife is sizzling, but it’s hard to resist a post-dinner massage.

I loved my first look at this hotel. The lobb is beautiful and the gentleman running the front desk, originally from Guadeloupe, was super friendly and answered our questions with patience and good cheer. We were offered water and a glass of wine upon arrival and escorted to a lovely room. Which was absolutely freezing. We were so tired from our journey of planes, trains and automobiles that we adjusted the thermostat and went straight for a nap. We both woke up a few hours later shivering with my husband convinced he was ill from the cold. In order to warm up we went out to look for coffee and a snack and asked the front desk about our room. We were assured that it would be warm -- because it takes a while -- and it would be ok by the time we returned. But it wasn't. If anything it was even more cold. The front desk told us that the temperature didn't increase while we were out because we had not left the door key in the slot for the lights. Hmmmm...okay. So we do that and off we go again. Several hours later we come back to a room that is even more cold than we left it. After requesting the hotel do something about the lack of heat, we were told we could move rooms but would have to take a downgrade due to lack of availability of a room of our standard. Maybe true, maybe not as when I went on the hotel website I could have booked a room like ours or even a better room for that same evening. Not wanting to get into a big deal, we moved to a MUCH smaller room. My husband then informed me he wanted to settle in and watch the Manchester/Derby football match (he lives for this stuff) and set several alarms so he could watch it from the comfort of our room. After looking all over, we could not find a remote to turn on the television. Calling the long suffering front desk, we were told that they had changed the tv systems and therefore without a remote (which they could not find either) the television was inoperable. End result: my husband had to take himself out to a pub which wasn't his preference as he was quite tired. In the meantime, I took a shower in our room and found myself standing in 4 inches or more of water as the drain was not working properly in this new, smaller room (I even removed the drain to see if there was a clog I could fix. No dice.. And the entire shower I was worried about slipping as the shower controls were at one end of the bath where there was a slip bar but the shower head required that you stand in the middle of the tub which required some careful movement. After the match, my husband and I both went to the pool on the roof which was absolutely lovely. Very clean, the temperature perfect. As I said, a series of unfortunate events and I truly want to give this hotel five stars. I doubt anyone else will encounter as many issues as we did and on the plus side this hotel is in a perfect location with incredible staff and lovely restaurants. As a result of all the issues the hotel refunded us 35% of our total bill which was super nice. But I would have preferred to have paid rather than deal with the issues that arose.

A fantastic little hotel situated in the heart of Alicante. Lovely rooms and good service all round. The reception staff were extremely helpful and the Concierge ‘Till’ was extremely hospitable during our stay. Bar staff were very friendly as well. I shall be returning to this hotel someday.

From check-in to check out a truly 5 star experience. The staff are so helpful, nothing too much trouble. We ate our evening meal there on our first night with the added pleasure of watching a Flamenco Show. Pure magic and the meal was actually the best we had. Beautiful room, we upgraded and well worth it. Everywhere in the hotel was spotlessly clean. Everything is thought of, my electric toothbrush died on me and unlike any other hotels there was one available in the luxury bathroom amenities supplied. Would never stay in any other hotel in Alicante. The rooftop bar was fabulous, views of castle amazing and big shout for the perfect strawberry daiquiris. Breakfast is superb. All in all, one of the best hotel experiences encountered. Well done...the business model for the hotel has exceeded itself and the staff are a credit to it

We had a fantastic three nights in Alicante, ideally situated in the old town next to the marina, with easy access to everything we wanted. The hotel is beautiful and the staff even more so - everyone we interacted with was helpful and friendly. They were very good at recommending restaurants in the surrounding area; all of which were brilliant; and even arranged the booking. Cava on arrival was a nice touch. The room is a great size with a comfy bed and tv with a good selection of English speaking channels in case it rains. I wish we’d taken the umbrella from the wardrobe with us during our trip! There was a Juliette balcony out onto a back lane, which was bustling during the day. We had a sliding door separating the toilet and dressing area from the sleeping area, which was ideal for privacy while travelling with friend. The only slight negative was the toilet also had a sliding frosted glass door, which didn’t close fully to the wall. Not so great for privacy! Easily worked around though. I’d definitely visit again if in Alicante!

Beautiful hotel, excellent location, helpfull staff. We had a junior suite, fantastic room, spacious and luxurious. Nice cava bottle as a welcome. Beds are excellent. Breakfast and restaurant are very good. We had a bad experience, after heavy rains the ceiling leaked water on the bed, and it took a bit more effort than expected to settle the problem (it was midnight), but in the end it was solved and the management took our complaint very serious and gave us a discount. For sure when we come back in Alicante we will stay in this hotel again!
