We stayed here using Marriott points since most of the other hotels in Auckland were full due to a concert at Eden Park, and I'm glad we did. The hotel was very central -- about halfway between the Sky Tower and the Ferry Building. We were given a very large room with a nice sitting area near the window (though we didn't have much of a view). The hotel is being renovated, but the construction didn't disturb us. I would consider staying here again if I am in Auckland again.

We stayed at the JW Marriott for two nights before boarding a scenic cruise around New Zealand. We were booked into this hotel as part of the cruise package and while we were concerned with previous reviews we accepted that while the hotel was being renovated that we would get a renovated room. The staff were very good and attentive while working though the hassles of the renovation, however the state of the renovation and lack of basic facilities during the renovation was concerning. The room while having been renovated was poorly finished to a standard you would expect in a cheap country motel. While the bed was comfortable the finishing and workmanship was poor. Another issue was that at reaching the hotel we were told that handling baggage was $15 per bag, even though our cruise package included all transfers including baggage handling. My wife has mobility issues and has trouble with the luggage. We have a contingency including luggage straps that we started to assemble and the staff came to our rescue and assisted at no charge. (We tipped the bell boy $20, all we had in NZD). It wasn't the cost, just the management approach which was disappointing. Reception was temporary due to the renovation and there was little seating in the reception area. The only alternative was up some stairs in the adjacent building. While this was inconvenient, the staff were very good in assisting us and calling us when our transfers arrived. The meals in the restaurant currently used by the hotel were very good but the staff struggled to keep up with the number of patrons. We normally wouldn't have booked this hotel due to past reviews and all we can say is that we are disappointed both with Scenic Tours for nominating this hotel, the level of room fit out and the poor planning and understanding of the hotel management.

As a longtime Marriott Titanium Elite member on the verge of reaching Lifetime Premium status, I can confidently say this is the most unprofessional JW Marriott I’ve ever experienced. The problems were too numerous to detail here, but suffice it to say that if you’re traveling for business, steer clear. And for families, I strongly advise waiting until the renovations are fully completed before considering a stay.

I have been in Auckland for few days during the concert, the hotel was really nice, clean, even under renovation. Staff in Trivet restaurant was awesome, from all breakfast team that I met them so friendly, happy with their smile, especially I would like to mention Anna from breakfast team, she is so sweet and friendly. Will definitely come back next time if i am back to Auckland.

Excellent service from the staff at this comfortable, well located hotel, especially from the reception team. The only disappointment was with the buffet breakfast which was only ever luke warm and served on cold plates. Mentioned this at the start of our two week stay but never improved. Shame.
