Reviews for JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa

4 stars. Good but not Great.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 17 hours ago

I'll start with the positives. The JW Marriott Turnberry is a very nice place. The lobby is beautiful, the rooms are up to date, large and clean, and the scenery is great. It's location to the FLL airport is extremely convenient. The food, albeit expensive (like you would expect), meets the standards of a high end resort. The water park is really great for a resort. My three kids ages 2.5, 7 and 9 were very entertained by it. People pay to use it who aren't even resort guests so I guess that tells you something. We didn't play golf but the course looked to be in decent shape and there's 36 holes to keep it interesting. It's a resort course but they have full time members. The people working around the hotel; the valets, the waiters, housekeeping and room service were extremely friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately the hotel is a 4 star hotel, not a 5 star albeit also not a 3 star either. I had some definite complaints that keep this place from being a really, really great high end hotel resort. First, the front of house staff are not particularly welcoming and warm. My family is titanium elite bonvoy members (not that it should matter) and they didn't even greet us with a smile. Perks like free breakfast for 2 wasn't mentioned to us. Typical check in is by 4pm but our room wasn't even ready until after 5p upon our arrival. The water park has a few things that weren't great either. First, the kids cove has 4 water slides, 2 of which you need to be 40" tall to ride. Why? You build a massive kids cove for all ages and then you basically don't allow anyone 6 yrs and under to use half the facility. My 2.5 year was very upset she couldn't use those slides while watching all the "older" kids using it. To make it more confusing the height limit for half the rides on the main slides is 42". Odd choice to have the 40" height limit when the main slides are available to all those older kids. The lazy river was broken for 3 out of the 4 days we were there and the 1 day it was open it was freezing. Nobody using it. They have one hot tub for the entire place which is jam packed and it too was broken for one of the days we were there. On our last day the weather was chilly but my family wanted to swim. Unfortunately the normally warm pool was freezing and so they swam for 5 minutes before deciding it was too cold. Again not hot tub. Just a lot of disappointing outcomes for a place that charges a lot to be there. So overall, the place checks a lot of boxes for a big conference resort for business travellers and families but it definitely falls short if you're expecting a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons level of service and facilities. I guess that's why it's four stars.

Subpar and misleading service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

At check in the rep said we can order room service and get a credit for breakfast. At check out the rep said that she was crediting breakfast and valet. Valet was appropriately credited however breakfast was not. Not the end of the world however if they said the credit was for corsair and buffet only we would have went to the buffet. The room was not the best, needing a remodel and overall the front desk was rude. Valet sub par as well. Room service reps were nice as was the bartenders at the lobby bar. My fourth and last visit to this property as the service is not up to my standards

Avoid!

Very strange hotel! Doesn’t live up to the JW name. Check in was long and we were chucked in a room over looking the service entrance. Breakfast not served until 0900 and it was like a zoo No communication between staff Water park was horrendous - dirty, cold water, slides were rubbish, can’t believe locals pay the prices advertised. We are platinum elite status but it didn’t matter. The staff are rude yet expect tipping Valet looked a mess- they drove like maniacs in and out of the car park and from what we saw dumped cars wherever they liked. Always long queues of people waiting. Bill was wrong but sorted We are in Corsair which was mediocre to say the least. Towels in the bathroom were tiny and dirty Bed was quite nice Woken at 0600 every morning by people cutting the grass, from 0700 idiots were queuing for the water park, kids screaming. Walls are paper thin, kids banging and screaming all day and night.

I just returned from one of the most wonderful hotels I've stayed in. I bid on and won an auction on Luxury Link to Turnberry Isle Miami, which included five days of golf. IT WAS WONDERFUL! And so luxurious!

We booked Turnberry Isle Miami through Luxury Link and stayed for 9 days on a spectacular golf package. The hotel was fantastic! Beautiful upgraded balcony room overlooking the golf course. Great buffet breakfast. Fantastic golf on two excellent courses. Our golf package included the mandatory caddy fees, which added to the incredible value. I could not speak more highly for this hotel, and Luxury Link.
