A lovely stay, would come again for sure

We had an amazing stay at Habitas. On a quiet part of the lake, the view is beautiful and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Service was excellent, and there were a few nice touches to make things a bit special. The cabins/tents are nice, spacious and they have put a lot of care into preserving space for greenery between them.

SCAM! Go somewhere else!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We got scammed by them. We booked 3 Nights and wanted to change it. Booking was really nice and wanted to help, but couldnt, because it was a Partner Offer and all Responsibility for that, was within the Hotel, they could do everything. But they didnt want to. In the end, they offered us a credit which we took. We asked explicitely for: "We want to stay 3 nights, what is the credit we get for these 2 canceled nights", they answered: "We can give you a credit for the full amount paid for which is sum xxx". In the end invoice, the credit was 200$ less, out of nothing. Despite them telling us 3 times, that the credit was a bigger amount, we even have it as mail. The women at the desk didnt care and she had an attitude, i cant even tell you. I didnt accept to charge me the amount until clearance, they took my credit card "just in case", 10 minutes after we left, they charged it and didnt hear from them ever since. We will take a lawyer for this. Go somewhere else! There are very nice hotels that dont want to scam you!

I have sat on this review for two weeks. Let me first say that there are several positives. The grounds are gorgeous. The outside showers divine. The views on the pier are divine. I’ll start from the beginning. We arrived early. Not sure where to park. Where to walk, where to go. If you have been, you know! Once there you are not welcomed with open arms. It’s very business like. Awkward. Then you find out you can’t walk to your “hut”. There is a golf cart that takes you to and from your car. Very dependent on the driver and what’s app for any questions or concerns. Sort of like being left at camp without your parents. Let’s talk food. The breakfast that comes with the room is not good. Limited. Dinner was interesting. The location does not have enough tables to host amount of guests. People being turned away because there are no tables. You are very remote here, so you can’t just walk to another restaurant. Bacalar is getting developed and there will be a lot of competition in the future. As of now, I would not return to Habitas until it’s what we experienced for three nights.

Stingy operation and overpriced. Horrible WiFi.

The service was very poor (outside of Ivan), even though in general the staff was kind. But the issues included: terrible/ imposible to use wifi - can’t make calls, can’t send messages, and definitely not check emails or do zoom calls. Even one of my friends called in Advance to check about wifi and they promised good wifi service but it was horrible. Thankfully one of our friends brought Starlink and that is how we survived bad wifi. In general, the portions of the meals for breakfast and lunch were an insult. In the breakfast included, they only give you one egg. Zero room service and the times for getting meals were limited. We have stayed at other habitas and this is WAY below the bar. Seems like a forgotten location where no senior manager has ever stepped foot. Ended up paying more than $3k for my stay for 5 days. Definitely never coming back.

Poor quality and very bad customer service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Left two days early today. Off to a bad start the first day we arrived , which was Valantines day. We had to pay $423 for dinner . They had no other option as it was a special dinner that included a bottle of wine. The only choice was fish which my husband doesn’t like so we felt we were held hostage as town is 10 klms away and we just got there and had no car. The free breakfast as they call it was not good at all except for the fruit. The advocado toast was soggy with no flavour what so ever. Any toast you got was dry and seemed stale. Now let’s talk about the pricing of dinner and drinks. Any glass of wine or regular alcohol drink was at least $18 Canadian. So one day can be expensive as there is not a lot to do. The meals were very expensive and when we received anything to eat it was cold. I don’t mind paying if it is good hot quality food but it just wasn’t, very very small portions. We had bought a few bottles of wine the first day or so there at a price of $1000 pesos which was cheap wine at its best so the second night at dinner we had brought a red bottle of wine with us to enjoy. When we got the bill there was a $600 pesos charge that was explained by a very rude manager we had to pay. No where in the agreement does it say you cannot bring your own drinks to the resort far from town. The tent rooms are unique and comfy but very dark with no seating on the front as they want you to go down to the front and spend your money with outrageous prices. Do yourself a favour and stay in the lovely friendly town of Bacalar that is reasonably priced , with great accommodation , friendly Mexican smiles as we have always known them, and really good food, Habitas you not not only disappointed us , you ruined our trip. Stay clear from this resort.
