Lovely beach resort with amazing staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We loved our stay at Tivoli resort. The staff are professional and friendly and the facilities are great. The food is of great quality and includes regional and international options. The spa was magnificent and made our stay even more memorable.

Tivoli Praia do Forte a very good choice!!

The service and the food are very good, as well as the facilities in general. I recommend it! We found the rooms a bit small and didn't like the fact that there were cats spread around the hotel.

High potential and some positives, but mostly disappointing nonetheless

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

First a few positives: - the food was of high quality and in good variety for both breakfast and dinner in the main Goa restaurant, although the restaurant itself was surprisingly busy and it was hard to find a table at times, despite the 30% occupancy rate at the time of our visit, so I wonder what it's like during their high season with full occupancy - swimming pools are of good size, well laid out and we particularly liked the massive adults-only pool which was great for swimming, although it's not heated and after a couple of days of cloudy/rainy weather the water became uncomfortably cold even for an active swimming session - the staff is mostly helpful and courteous. although linguistically challenged (more on that below) Overall, however, the negatives outweighed the positives and we had a mostly disappointing experience with this supposedly five-star resort, especially given a potential offered by the property’s stunning location on a long stretch of a sandy beach: - the beach itself, looking good from a distance, is actually dirty and smelly from rotting seaweed that nobody is clearing and so even walking on that beach is an unpleasant experience, let alone getting into the water for a swim in the ocean. - the hotel advertises itself in the international market, but almost none of the staff (except a few receptionists) speaks any English whatsoever, which is very frustrating as ordering food in restaurants or solving even the smallest issue is a major hassle and so we ended up using an online translator to communicate with the staff most of the time. - all of the hotel’s facilities are dated and things are quite literally falling apart; they advertise water sports activities in their nautical centre, however the only thing one could rent from them was a kayak, as all the rest was either missing or damaged; their pingpong table was so old that there were air bubbles on the surface, making it impossible to play; we tried to play tennis (they have four floodlit courts) but both the rackets and the balls were very old and practically unplayable - the rooms were on the small side, with dated furniture, and uncomfortable beds and pillows, but the worst thing was their air-conditioning system - the internal unit was positioned almost above the bed, which is normally forbidden as it is obviously a health and safety issue. It is a cheap Chinese-made Gree model with limited settings options, so whatever combination of temperature and fan speed you select, it would still blow cold air hard, straight at you. Since it was too hot and humid in the room to sleep without the aircon, we had no choice but to use it, and we woke up with a headache and sore throat after the first night and could barely sleep at all on the following nights - the bathroom, albeit seemingly renovated, is idiotically designed: the entrance door is perforated (wood planks with gaps in-between) so you have limited privacy, no light or sound insulation and it is almost guaranteed that you would wake your partner up if you have to go at night, because of lights and the flushing noise, although the partner was probably not sleeping anyway due to the aircon issue (see above); the shower cubicle is missing a glass door so the floor gets very wet and dangerous to walk on after taking a shower, another major health and safety hazard To sum it up, we are frequent travellers, have visited dozens of five-star beach resorts across the world over the years and this must have been one of our worst experiences, so our recommendation to international travellers with options to go elsewhere is to stay away.
