In the fashion of a traditional Balinese village â€" with the addition of modern luxuries, of course â€" the tranquil Alila Ubud resort helps to center mind, body and spirit. Its stunning architecture captures contemporary design philosophy while incorporating traditional elements of style. Cradled along the banks of the Ayung River within lush Balinese foothills, guests retreat into a collection of the resort's chic rooms and freestanding, stilt-supported villas. The juxtaposition of contrasting elements creates a uniquely timeless feel, with contemporary concrete appointments beneath conventional thatched roofs, or modern terrazzo tiles beside aged and crushed rock. Expect all the lavish comforts of an exclusive resort, like private terraces and clandestine courtyards, open-air bathrooms and airy showers, private plunge pools and secluded sundecks, to name a few.

I understand the Alila Ubud has one of the top ten most photographed swimming pools in the world and i can fully understand why. I don't think I have ever seen a swimming pool in such a beautiful location! The hotel is set in a relatively remote area and is therefore self contained. From arrival to departure we had a lovely time. The staff are all so helpful and friendly. We really did feel welcomed to the resort. The staff take the time to talk to you, learn a bit about you, and also make recommendations about the local area and what you can do. They will also assist you with booking trips if you wish (we did the ATV tour close by which the hotel booked and sorted for us). The restaurants were lovely. We ate at both and found the food quality and service to be excellent (the special themed buffet night with the pork belly was one not to be missed!!) The grounds are beautiful and it has the added unique aspect of families of wild monkeys which roam the site. Fear not, they are not that interested in you if you confidently walk past them, however, as we found out, they will play with your swim wear if you leave it outside on your sunbed! We had a pool villa and it was well appointed. We loved the pool and the fact it was surrounded by a pond with fish. We also liked the addition of the outside bath tub which was great to soak in whilst listening to the sounds of the jungle (and the sounds are loud i can assure you!) The gym was perfectly acceptable and we used it several times. The hotel has a courtesy shuttle to take you to Ubud town which we used. It was a great addition as it got us in to town without any issues and allowed us to explore some of the local area. They also have bikes at the hotel that you can take out (complimentary), however, we did find the printed routes a little confusing and ended up on the main roads, which if you are familiar with Bali, is quite scary at times! Now the reason it does not get a fifth star from us. It needs some maintenance in the villas. The main doors in our villa out to the pool did not close properly. There was a substantial gap where the doors didn't fit together. It meant that we had the uncomfortable feeling that some unwelcome guests (i.e. bugs) would be able to get in with ease together with mosquitos. The hotel did try and fix it by sticking the insulating foam back in place, but the truth is the doors need replacing or re-hanging. We were told it was the Balinese way, but i am afraid to say we then stayed in two further hotels in Lombok and Bali and the maintenance of those hotels (The Club by Legian and the Oberoi in Lombok) was exceptional, so i am afraid that excuse doesn't really wash. If they fix the bits that didn't really work, were getting old and tired, or just needed refreshing then it would definitely get the fifth star from us. So we say to the owners, put some money in to the maintenance. You have the view, the staff, the quality, now you just need the infrastructure to match the rest.

This a lovely quiet 5 star hotel set in beautiful jungle surroundings, rooms staff, and food are all exceptional and location could not be better if you want a few days of quiet retreat the only problem we had was the lack of sunbeds and it was a case of early rise to book a bed otherwise there was no other area to relax

My yearly retreat. Always such a rejuvenating time. Best place to hide away from the world and people. Alila Ubud is where I go to catch up on reading and me time. Food is fabulous. Staff are amazing. Looking forward to going back again. Highly recommended.

This place is extraordinary. Everything was great from the first moment. Lia (or Dia) at reception was extremely nice and very helpful, as was all the staff. There were lots of complimentary drinks (ginger lemonade at check-in, water in the pool area, and afternoon tea with local sweets) and activities. We joined the complimentary yoga class, which was a great start to the day. There were many breakfast options (we tried a lot!), and all of them were delicious. Dinner was also very good. All rooms have a beautiful jungle view, and the pool area with a bar and restaurant is excellent. They also provide a shuttle service to the center of Ubud four times a day, free of charge. Definitely great value for money. Hopefully, we will come back soon!

Amazing Property with Amazing Facilities! Slightly out of the main town and they offer a complimentary shuttle into the town which is soo good and convenient! Being out of the town was so nice as well as it was so serene and tranquil! Would stay here over and over again, we didn't want to leave.
