The bungalows at Hotel Tjampuhan & Spa are carved from indigenous timber and adorned with Balinese artwork, fully immersed in the natural beauty and spiritual energy that defines Ubud. The hotel was built in 1928 for guests of Prince Ubud, and in the 1930s, the area became an artist colony, attracting its most illustrious resident, the German primitive painter Walter Spies. Spies’s two-story bungalow, restored to its historical splendor and available for retreats, presides over a lotus pond in the middle of the Balinese rainforest, where a meditative state is as easy to obtain as a breath of fresh air.

The hotel staff were all lovely, nothing was ever too much hassle. We had the couples spa treatment and romantic bridge dinner booked during our stay which were both amazing! The hotel has some amazing detail around every corner, the traditional dress, carvings, statues and in particular the spa area looked really well preserved. Really enjoyed our stay here!

The hotel rooms are spacious and neat but be ready to exercise to get to them as there are lots of steps. We enjoyed the main pool and the spa’s hot and cold plunge pools. The breakfast was a let down. There aren’t many options. Every day the menu was pretty much the same as the day before. Eggs/omlette, Fried rice/noodles, potatoes, vegetables, chicken sausage and the banana pancakes. They don’t offer a variety of options. I guess it’s subjective but I was disappointed especially because I asked them to make a fluffy pancake for me and they said they don’t make them. And there was no bacon 😫. Besides that, I think it’s an okay hotel. It has lovely luscious greenery but be careful, to my horror I spotted a snake but the hotel staff took care of it. FYI, they’re busy with construction so expect some noise. Overall they are helpful and friendly.

Our family stayed at this very beautiful property - we had 3 rooms. The rooms themselves were large and everything worked well - fridge, air con and hot water BUT the rooms are looking a little tired. The hotel is very close to Ubud village so it scores a 10/10 for location. The grounds are beautiful however there are LOTS of steepish stairs that don’t have hand rails. Not great. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was very good in the mornings but I did feel the night a la carte menu lacking. Restaurant staff were unwilling to put two tables together so we could sit in the restaurant instead seating us on the lower level by ourselves. Not great.

This is an absolute gem - the rooms are spacious (slightly old but not a problem at all) - aircon, fan, fridge, I had a balcony - view of type jungle foliage. the spa is awesome, the staff are amazing, the location is excellent. special shout out to Arya who assisted me with my bookings before & during my travels. I love this place.
