Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok

This was my first stay along the Chao Phraya river and Shangri-La was the perfect spot. It had perfect access to the rest of Bangkok whether by boat, by car or by train as all these stations are within a block from the hotel. Do note that the free ferry to IconSiam runs on limited hours but you can walk to the nearby ferry pier and take a public boat for only 8baht. The welcome from the men at the concierge was warm. Check-in had quite a queue but nothing overly dramatic. Our room on the 9th floor had a beautiful view to the river. Beds were a little on the hard side. Only one bedside table had a power outlet, which is a bit of a miss. The room only had instant coffee. For a hotel of this caliber, a coffee maker would have been expected. Overall service was nice and polite but many times the staff failed to follow up on our inquiries. Like we wanted to buy the side pillow and the front desk staff promised to get back to us with the answer. She never did. Again, something unusual for the Shangri-la brand. I loved and maximised access to the gym. Among the hotel gyms I have been to, theirs was one of the better equipped (second only to Atlantis The Palm in Dubai). Plus points for the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. The staff at the health club were among the friendliest and professional in the whole hotel. All my questions were answered with a smile -- even the guy who ended up deep cleaning the jacuzzi. Breakfast was varied and featured both indoor and outdoor seating. It featured western, Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Thai cuisines. Loved the ice cream! Checkout was quick and easy, however, we were disappointed to hear that our request for late checkout was flat out denied.

Communication is non existing. We have an upcoming stay and it has been impossible to make arrangements. It is very frustrating. I have no idea if dinner reservations for Christmas are set. I started inquiring 10 days ago on 3 different channels.

This is a historic hotel with great service, well maintained, excellent restaurants. Very helpful hotel staff. The italian restaurant was high end, with great and creative dishes. The hotel staff that were at the airport arranged transport to the hotel after another company did not show up.

Great location on the river across from Iconsiam. Hotel has great amenities and service is second to none. Gym and health spa were good. Rooms could use some TLC and beds are too firm. Breakfast was a miss as it was over priced for Thailand. Lots of choices in immediate neighbourhood.

We visited Shangri-La Bangkok again for 2nd time. We love the hotel very much as the service is impeccable and staff are helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the breakfast at Next2. The hotel is near BTS Station,so it is very convenient to move around
