Reviews for The Osprey at Beaver Creek, a RockResort

5 star location, 3 star hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

The hotel's location is unparalleled, offering direct access to the Strawberry lift right from the ski-valet, and a convenient walk across the bridge to the Centennial lift and Beaver Creek Village. While the hotel itself is satisfactory, the rooms are of a good size and maintained clean, albeit somewhat musty. The feature to Chromecast from personal devices to the room's TV was a nice amenity. The walls are thin, allowing sounds from neighboring rooms to seep through, and housekeeping services are only provided every other day. The staff is welcoming and accommodating, yet the service does not meet the expectations for a four-star establishment. The breakfast options are limited to a cold buffet, including cereal, yogurt, and pastries, with inadequate staffing levels, often requiring guests to seek out the solitary staff member for essentials like napkins and coffee. The hotel is very accommodating to families, which is a positive aspect, though it's worth noting that many of the amenities, especially the hot tub may be crowded with children. Regarding the mention of a marijuana odor by other reviewers, we noticed it in the hallway on the first night but not during the subsequent nights of our stay. Overall, I would cautiously recommend the hotel, provided you adjust your expectations accordingly and prioritize the convenient location. For those seeking more luxurious amenities and superior service, you may want to look elsewhere.

Overall a good stay.

This was a return trip to the Osprey for us. It certainly has one of the best locations in Beaver Creek with the Strawberry lift steps out the back door. We love skiing Beaver Creek and the location is the biggest draw. Other aspects of the space, not so much. On the good side, the staff were great. Always helpful, friendly and outgoing. We always book our trip so the day we leave, we can ski in the morning before we depart and they are great about allowing us to load up the car and keep it in the garage after we have checked out while we ski one last time. This trip we booked a Lodge King room. The room itself was fine, comfortable bed, plenty of space. Unfortunately, I didn't specify or request a non-adjoining room. Not always a problem but this time it was as the adjoining suite had a sick child who coughed and hacked away all night long. An annoyance but not the Osprey's fault. The biggest drawback to the suite was the bathroom area. One small towel bar and one hook outside the shower is completely inadequate. The only other hook was behind the door to the toilet stall. Management asks us to hang up our towels if we want to reuse them (in order to be environmentally friendly) and then provides NO space to do so. The only drawback to the location, if your room is on the Strawberry Lift side of the hotel, is the lift can be rather noisy when it starts up in the morning. So I knock off 1 star for the poor layout of the bathroom. Otherwise it's a good place to stay.

Excellent staff, great accommodations and the so close to the ski lift!

This hotel is excellent. The staff was so kind and helpful and went out of the way to make our stay pleasant and fun. The room size was ample and we were <50 feet from the ski lift. The valet staff helped me take care of a flat tire and went out of the way to take care of me and my wife. I was delighted by our experience.

Perfect Ski Lodge

We loved The Osprey and are already talking about our next ski trip. The location could not be more ski-in/ski-out. We literally walked out the back door and onto Strawberry lift without ever encountering a line. There were plenty of blue and green runs directly back to the back door of the hotel. Finally, walking out the front door led you directly into the main Beaver Creek town square. There was also a complementary hotel shuttle to take you anywhere on property or into Avon. Outside of the amazing location, the hotel was fantastic. Service could not have been better and every employee was helpful and friendly. Even the continental breakfast was so much better than a standard continental with plenty of fresh fruit and made to order coffees. The seating areas were cozy and the bar was a great place to enjoy a relaxing apre ski cocktail, I highly recommend The Osprey for anyone looking for a relaxing ski vacation in an amazing location.

The Osprey has fallen.....

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

We have been coming to The Osprey for years and have probably stayed here 5 or 6 times for a week at a time with our four children and often had other couple join us at the hotel. We have always appreciated the ski-in, ski out access and the mountain casualness. The facilities are still nice, the staff is still nice and the rooms are extremely well cleaned. However, this will be our last visit sadly. The amount of marijuana use at the hotel that the hotel staff turns a blind eye to is of epic proportions and is painful in our room and childrens rooms at night. Supposdely this is a non-smoking property, so I confirmed with management that marijuana smoking is not allowed. We have alerted the night manager Sam and general manager but they always say they can't tell where the smell/smoke is coming from but they will have the housekeeping staff look into it but nothing happens - we've been here six nights so far. How hard is it to have housekeeping notify management when they find marijuana butts in the garbabe cans? Seriously. At night, we now regularly stuff towels under the connecting doors to the adjacent rooms and the door to the hallway to keep out the smoke/smell as best we can from our kids and from us to keep from getting headaches. The leve of service which we used to appreciate at the Osprey pre-Covid has deteriorated sharply. Dinner closes at 6 and has been reduced to sandwiches so we have to hunt for a place to eat every night. They used to have much more substantial dinner food available much later into the night. Breakfast is now a pretty good cold buffett, but no hot items like egss before. Today (1/3/24) they ran out of peanut butter, pastries, hot chocolate and hot water. How do you run out of hot water? Not kidding...the kids weren't able to make hot chocolate. Beaver Creek in general is suffering a general manpower shortage it seems such that restraunts everywhere are understaffed, tables aren't bussed, there is a shortage of cooks so that meals take longer and at many restraunts in Beaver Creek, it just seems like the staff is overwhelmed and doesn't really care because they have a captive audience, a shortage of restraunts and can charge ridiculous prices even for a ski vacation because there are no other options. We have an option - and it's to never come back to Beaver Creek. But we still have a lot of wonderful memories from years gone by. Hopefully someone will take charge and restore this fallen angel to its former glory but it is going to take a while. Choose a different hotel and a different ski town.
