About the Hotel

St. George's Caye Resort is situated on some of the country’s most historic shores – the area was Belize’s original capital, the site of clashes between shipwrecked British sailors-turned-pirates and Spanish conquistadors. There are rumors of a sarcophagus still buried on resort property. Guests get a taste of island flavor in cabanas adorned in rich, native hardwoods and coconut fronds, a design that conceals them in the surrounding thickets of palms. Attentive staff are especially helpful in arranging personalized dive itineraries.

Reviews for St. George's Caye Resort

Perfect Honeymoon Destination!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

St. George's Caye Resort was the *perfect* honeymoon destination, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! We booked the honeymoon package, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The resort went above and beyond with thoughtful touches like a private cocktail hour on a sandbar—such a magical experience—and a romantic private dinner one night. It truly felt like our own little paradise. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and caring, always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and making us feel special. A huge shout-out to Ingrid for the amazing massages—such a relaxing treat during our stay! The food at St. George's was nothing short of exceptional. Every day, the kitchen team crafted a new menu, featuring the freshest ingredients. We were treated to incredible sea-to-table dishes, with freshly caught fish and lobster being some of the highlights. The meals were beautifully prepared, and the fresh pressed juices at breakfast and lunch were a refreshing addition to the already amazing dining experience. And we couldn’t get enough of the Belizean favorites like stuffed fryjacks. *Pro-tip:* definitely get a plain fryjack with powdered sugar on the side—it was *so* delicious! One of our favorite touches was the drink tray delivered to our cabana every morning. It was such a treat to wake up and enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking in the views. We absolutely loved the fresh pressed orange juice—*to die for*! What we really appreciated was the intimate size of the resort—only a max of 30 people, which made it feel like we had our own private island. It was also a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow travelers from all over the world. We loved sharing stories with guests from different countries, adding a unique and global touch to our experience. The cocktails were amazing too, and the bartenders were always ready to whip up something delicious. The drinks of the day were always a fun way to try something new! The resort's location was perfect—our overwater cabana offered spectacular views, and we loved having easy access to the reef, where we could snorkel and see plenty of fish around the cabanas and docks. Kayaking and paddle boarding around the caye were highlights of our day, and it felt like we were in our own peaceful paradise. Although there was wifi, we made the most of the opportunity to disconnect and fully enjoy the tranquility of the island. The nighttime vibe was exactly what we wanted—low-key, relaxing, and peaceful, providing the perfect end to our days. We also took the Mayan ruins excursion, which was a blast! Exploring the ruins and going on the hour-long jungle river cruise to get there was such a fun and unique experience. Overall, St. George's Caye Resort exceeded every expectation and was the perfect place for a romantic and unforgettable honeymoon. If you’re looking for a relaxing, intimate, and unique getaway, we can’t recommend this resort enough!

The review I wish I had read before booking.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

This is the review I wish I had read before booking this trip. Let's start with the good: -Easy transport from the airport to the resort. 20-25 minutes by van, then 25-30 min by boat. -Most staff very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. -The cabana was clean, comfortable bed, and we had mostly functional A/C. They deliver coffee to your cabana every morning at 6:00 There are kayaks and paddle bards that you can take out any time you want. We did see dolphins. We saw other marine life at night from the dock. Very cool. -We both had a nice massage and the massage therapist was very nice. The average: -the food is average. Breakfast has a few options and slightly flexible time. Other meals are at a set time and all guests dine together. It was enough food. We were not hungry. You can purchase snacks like nachos or ceviche at a set time between 2-4. I wish there had been more snack options available at all times. -San Pedro Slam excursion: This takes you on a 1 hour boat trip to San Pedro. Here you can snorkel in the marine preserve and then spend time in town after. They only do this trip on Wednesdays. This is also the same day that the cruise ships are there, so the marine preserve is VERY busy and filled with people. I wish they offered this on a different day. They said we would be able to rinse off after snorkeling and change into dry clothes at the dive shop. This means you will rinse with a hose on the dock, and change in the bar next door. Just so you know. We only got 45 minutes snorkel at the marine preserve and about 30 min at shark/ray alley. We enjoyed it...but could have stayed much longer at the preserve. -the bar: drinks are very expensive and just okay. Wine options were just okay. The below average: -Noise: We arrived to loud music at the bar that is easily heard throughout the resort and in our cabana. There was a rather loud group that stayed up yelling, hooting and laughing until 11:30 from the bar. EVERYONE could hear them. This group kept the resort guests awake for 3 nights until 11:00-12:00. Not peaceful at all until they left. The music started every afternoon. The music was fine, but it was so loud we could not have a conversation without shouting at each other. Every single night we took turns as different guests asked to have the music turned down. They seemed annoyed at our request. Again, not the peaceful island experience I was hoping for. -snorkeling: we have been divers and snorkelers on many trips in many locations. We usually have both in our group. We have alway been able to snorkel with the dive boat. Not here. They would NOT allow any snorkeling with the divers. They indicated is was conditions based, but conditions were always best in the am and they only took snorkelers out at 2:00 PM. They advertise 9:00 am snorkel...but it was never available....more likely a staffing issue as the conditions (wind and current) were always worse in the afternoon. Even though they are close to this amazing reef with so many options...they go to the same exact snorkel location every time. In all our past experiences we got to go several different locations. If you expect to go different places and different beautiful islands you need to book your own private trip. If you want to go in the morning when conditions are best, you need to book your own private trip. -fishing: a full day fishing trip was organized through the resort. The guide came from Belize City. He arrived 45 min late with no apologies. What we were told the experience would be, did not occur and 2 people in a very small boat were attempting to fly fish....it was unsuccessful. The guide was unhelpful, no instruction for the location, gear was subpar. Trolling for reef fish was slightly better. They ran out of water on a very hot day. A very below average experience for the price. Again, do your research and book your own private fishing charter. I would not trust the resort to book it. -scheduling: You must schedule your events through them the day before. I attempted to go diving one morning when the conditions were finally good. My spouse went fishing and water conditions had improved dramatically overnight, so I asked the dive master 90 minutes before the trip if I could join and he said no. He only had 3 divers that day. The boat was not full. I am an experience diver. His reason. He did not have air. A dive shop that does not have tanks ready for an extra diver...I was beyond disappointed. -pool: it is a salt water pool. There were no chairs to sit around the pool. None. Even if there were chairs, you would likely not have anyone come by and bring you water or a drink. You would have to walk back to the bar and restaurant and bring it back to the pool. Not a huge deal...but we really did not find the pool inviting. -other: They have a place to fill your water bottle in the bar. But one night they closed the bar/office access right after dinner and several guests were left without access to filtered water for the night.... -Overall disappointing: They over promised and under delivered. They said to ask for anything you want....but the answer was usually "sorry, no". There we coconut palms and coconuts everywhere. I asked to have some fish coconut....it never happened. This pretty much summed our week. We departed earlier than planned.

A beautiful relaxing paradise

I just spent the better part of a week with my hubby here at this resort. We weren’t sure about the fixed menu at first but were assured by the owner that it would be fine. Well it was more than fine. It was delicious! Every meal was flavorful and more than enough to fill us both up. The resort isn’t filled with crazy tourists giving us the MOST relaxing getaway. We stayed in the over-water bungalow and it was spacious, private, air conditioned, and not far from the main building where we ate every meal. We met amazing couples who added to our enjoyment of being in a small intimate resort. We took part in a few excursions and they had superbly knowledgeable guides to fill us in on the areas. And lastly, but not least, the best part of the resort are the people. Every morning and any time we saw someone was a friendly, welcoming greeting. Everyone was so kind and made us feel special. Thank you St George Caye Resort, you made a holiday turn into an unforgettable experience.

Amazing wish I was still there

We had a great time at the resort and on the excursions, I highly recommend the fishing, snorkeling and sailing. The accommodations, food and staff were all exceptional. Definitely will be returning in the near future. The resort has so many included amenities and activities you really never need to leave the resort to have an amazing time.

Had a blast

The weather hindered some of our activities, but the staff tried to accommodate us the best way possible. Very friendly staff... and they made sure all of my food allergies were addressed. The scuba diving was amazing. I will definitely go back.

It was fascinating to watch the sea life. Your hosts make every effort to make you feel at home. The diving was amazing - you know how amazing the reef is, but the service took the entire experience to the next level. I could go on-and-on about the time we spent at St. George's Caye Resort!

The resort staff went out of the way to ensure that we had a memorable experience. The accommodations were excellent! As for diving - every day all of our gear was on the boat, meticulously maintained and ready to go. Travelers wishing to experience a gloriously beautiful waterfront location with pampered diving, satisfying food, and good company, then St. Georges Caye Resort fills the bill.

Wow, what a vacation! We can honestly say this was the best vacation we've ever had. The beauty and complete tranquility of St. George's Caye Resort was amazing. The resort and cabanas were wonderful and the owners and staff at the resort were incredible.

What an awesome experience. The environment is stunning. The water is beautiful. It is truly a unique experience to stay on this remote island, with all luxuries included. The staff was fantastic. Everyday we received personalized attention. There were special meals and excursions. Fresh baked cookies were delivered to the cabana daily. The staff all knew our names and drink preferences. The best endorsement I can give is that we extended our stay.
