Great hotel

The Stamford is an excellent hotel. We stayed twice on stopovers as flying to various locations in Australia. Found it very comfortable. Top notch location and service. Our room had fantastic views as a corner suite. Highly recommend this hotel

Best Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Love this hotel. Has everything you need in the room, large bathroom., very clean and well maintained. Walking to city, around river front, Botanicals garden all so close. The only part that is not so good is the bar has too many tvs on. You can take your drink to the hotel lounge which is lovely

From a welcoming entrance hall to a delicious breakfast, this stay was very pleasant, and we will be back

From a welcoming entrance hall to a delicious breakfast, this stay was very pleasant, and we will be back. A well positioned hotel that is close to ferry terminals, train station and shops. Southbank is a 20 minute walk away. We travelled from Melbourne on September 13th 2024 and when we arrived we were greeted with two friendly staff members who were very efficient. Check in was a breeze. The room was clean and tidy, comfortable bed and the bathroom facilities were to be expected. Water pressure in the shower was great and amenities were plentiful. A spacious room. The Deluxe River View room was as expected, a beautiful view of the river but not that private when the curtains are open. The other rooms are at an angle where they can see into your room by about 1 metre. There are lace curtains but obviously block the pleasant view. The tv was easy to use and has screen share so you can stream your videos on your laptop or tablet to the tv very easily. Mini bar fridge but no contents, this can be ordered to be brought to the room. The annoyance with the room were the lights, very confusing and really one light switched them all on or off. So, the ambience in the room was not able to be created. Furniture is dated and probably needs updating but it wasn't all that bad and doesn't really take much away from the hotels decor. Room service was tasty and efficient with a good and well-priced selection. The pool area struggles to find itself in the sun after 12 noon so if you are going there then please do so before 12 noon. It’s well kept and has towels and loungers. There’s a large spa tub and the pool is suitable for adults and kids with supervision. The space overlooks the river and is very pleasant to sit and relax in. Breakfast was a buffet and I felt the cold food choices were superb and fresh, the hot food was great with the eggs a little overcooked and the choice of freshly cooked omelettes. The coffee should be improved (sorry from Melbourne) and the juice choices were extremely poor with an awkward area to pour your own. We sat outside in the sun and overlooked the river, very relaxing and comfortable. I hate travelling in elevators and we were on the 15th floor but the elevator was sturdy and felt very well maintained. There are three elevators and you don't need to wait for long till one is available. Reception were great on every interaction and the Concierge could not do enough to make sure our stay was a great experience. The bar area was a little underwhelming on drink choices. I feel they need to overhaul the selection as it’s very standard and points toward international brands. There should be unique choices in a hotel of this standard. In all this was a relaxing hotel with good facilities and worth what we paid. Well positioned with efficient staff and good breakfast. We would stay here again.

Mid-Week Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Perhaps because we stayed mid-week there were some areas I would consider lacking for a property of this level and resulted in my only giving this three stars. Starting with the positives: the room was clean with a decent view of the river, the bathroom was spacious with a TV (a big plus for me), the pool was well stocked with towels and a very nice temperature. On the negative: The check-in person I initially approached appeared to be in training and didn't know the answers to some basic questions, plus had an odd attitude. I was eventually check-in by another staff member who appeared to be familiar with the property and very polite. We booked a high tea on arrival that was a little soggy but I found out there had been a miscommunication between the person who asked me in advance when we were going to arrive (3-4pm) and the person setting up the high tea (2.30pm) so the tea came and went and eventually arrived about 40min after we did. The the room needed some maintenance work done (very bad water hammer in the bathroom and the sink not draining properly) that someone should have been aware of well before we arrived. On check-out I advised the front desk and they told me they'd get onto it so hopefully that's been fixed. On the first day of our stay the breakfast had a wide variety of options that were poor quality and the service was bad. However, on the last day of our stay the service was good and so was the food. Basically hit and miss. Anyone who regularly reads my reviews will be aware I often travel with disabled companions and this was no different. There was disabled parking outside the side entrance of the hotel but it is max 4hrs. I made concierge aware that we were traveling with disabilities and they allowed us to park at the front entrance for the regular rate of $49/day (car keys had to be handed over to allow for the car to be moved if required). Conversely the check-in desk was also made aware and chose to give us a room that was almost as far as possible from the lift. We didn't need a room set up for wheelchairs this time, so that wasn't part of the booking, but the distance to walk did cause some issues for my traveling companion. A pity but not a deal breaker. It would have taken the experience to the next level and got them another star from me, despite the other issues, if they had taken that information on or said they tried to help but couldn't.

Old Money

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Fantastic, beautiful hotel. Feels like old money. Room was scrupulously clean. I don't normally have a bath in hotels as they don't look clean enough, but I did here! TV in the bathroom = decadence. Breakfast was excellent. Can't wait to go back.
