The chilled-out electronica soundtrack coursing through Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest is impossibly hip (and it’s available in-room – guests have access to Buddha-Bar’s entire music collection). It’s also one of the trademark elements – along with a towering golden Buddha statue – that tie the property to its trendy family of hotels and restaurants around the world. Inside, the hotel is a den of scarlet and gold, furnished with Chinese and Japanese artifacts. The exterior of the Neo-Baroque building, however, is classic Hungary: Owned by Archduchess Klothilde Maria Amalie, it greeted the turn of the 20th century with the city’s first elevator.
