This hotel is in a great neighborhood in Buenos Aires, close to Plaza de San Martin, with plenty of shops nearby and a generally safe feel. The room I stayed in was spacious, well-appointed, and very clean, although the decor was a bit bland. It had all the essentials—a comfortable bed, a fridge, and a good-sized bathroom with excellent lighting. The breakfast buffet was very good, with many different options and friendly, efficient service. There is also a nice gym with city views. While it is small, it is well-equipped, but unfortunately, it only opens at 7 am. For those of us who are jet-lagged and want to work out early, this was a bit of a letdown. One other minor issue was the coffee capsules. There is a coffee maker in the room with a few capsules, but I was charged for them at checkout. They were not expensive, and I would have paid for them anyway, but it would be nice if it were made clear that they are not complimentary. Overall, this is a very good choice for a business trip in Buenos Aires. I would happily stay here again.

Although the hotel and staff are fine, the process for resolving maintenance reports and issues should be improved. The shower drain was so slow that (1) there was water on the floor all the way to the bathroom door after my first shower. I reported the problem to the front desk staff member who said he would send maintenance. Took a shower in the evening, (2) flooded again, and I reported again. Shower next morning (3) flooded again so I limited the time to limit the flooding. Reported again (4) but the manager will not arrive until mid morning. Also, the left night shade inoperative, so I reported that also.

Alvear Art Hotel is a 5-star hotel located in the Centro neighborhood of the beautiful city of Buenos Aires. The hotel has a 5-star feeling when you walk in with marble and granite adorning the walls and floor of the grand lobby. There is a door attendant to help with luggage or just to say hi. The front desk staff is very friendly and accommodating. I even saw one or two of the front desk employees with Michelin pins, indicating a higher level of training and performance. Off the lobby, in a sunken level is the restaurant and bar. My room was well appointed with higher quality furnishings that mirrored the decor of the lobby with darker woods and muted, earth toned colors, which felt a bit outdated. My room had a safe and refrigerator (not stocked) but no iron or ironing board. There was a Nespresso coffee maker but two days in a row, no coffee capsules were left. I had to call to the front desk to get capsules delivered and they seemed a bit annoyed with my request. The bathroom was well lit and included a rain head shower and separate bathtub and toilet area as well as two sinks. Sadly, this hotel still uses single use toiletry items (shampoo, conditioner, etc.). The single use bottles are shaped in such a way that it is difficult to get the product out of the container and they don’t smell or feel very luxurious. The bar hand soap is equally bland. The bed was comfortable with good quality cotton sheets and nice feather pillows, though I like having at least one foam pillow to use as a base for my feather pillow. The air conditioning was great. I tend to run a bit hot and like my room on the colder side. I set the thermostat to the lowest temperature (19 C), but it felt colder than that. I was very comfortable. The housekeeper did an excellent job of tidying my room each day though they were very noisy when cleaning the room next to mine that kept me from sleeping in that morning. The hotel advertises itself as a 5-star hotel. The rooms could use a refresh, and the toiletry items could also be updated. It just does not quite feel like a 5-star experience but with a little effort I think they could easily get there. It is for those reasons that I will be rating this hotel with 4 stars.
