Reviews for The Lake House on Canandaigua

Great for a conference

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

What a fantastic place. The room was large and super clean. I like the fact that the room had hardwood floors. Hotel carpet can be nasty, even at a nice place. The food was off the charts and the bartenders in the Library Bar was very friendly and talented. I was there for a business conference. The event barn was a great set up for our conference. I can not recommend The Lake House enough. I am looking forward to coming back in season.

An Oasis l The Lake House On Candandaigua

My daughter and I snuck away for an overnight trip while she was home for spring break! Angela at the Front Desk checked us in, and was the best at making us feel at home! We had dinner at The Rose Tavern, and Amanda and Derrick, who served us the best meal - top notch service! Our room was comfy and the beds were dreamy! The pool and hot tub were open - in March! Everyone was so nice and the resort was amazing! The only feedback I have is that the hairdryers need an upgrade! We will be back!

A lovely place to stay, a few things to improve on

Pros: cozy rooms, such cute decor everywhere and makes for great photos. Lots of space to wander around with little ones (I have a baby and my sister has a pre schooler). I like that there were options for dining as well without having to leave. Visiting in the winter was gorgeous and we can only imagine how stunning it is in the summer. Cons: we booked the winter package and were supposed to receive an upgrade upon arrival. No upgrade was available and the front desk clerk said it’s based on availability, which is fine but this was listed nowhere when we booked. The building we ended up staying in is not connected to the main building with all the amenities, which I’m sure in the summer this isn’t an issue but in the winter it was awful running with small children in the cold to get to the main building. Additionally, Rose Tavern has signs everywhere for happy hour but when we sat down to eat we were told it’s only if you’re sitting at the bar. That was sort of silly and should probably be advertised somewhere. Finally, while sitting with our families in the main building, we saw that everyone who was checking in was receiving a glass of sparkling wine. Neither me nor my sister’s family was offered this. I don’t know if it’s because we had small children but it would have been nice if we were offered. Just felt a little unfair. The takeaway: beautiful enough to come back, lots to do without having to leave. It’s actually the perfect little place to come with a “resort feel”. I think if they tweaked a few things that I mentioned it would make it 5 stars for us.

NOTHING SPECIAL

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Our children thoughtfully gave us a gift card for Christmas,so even though we’re local, we decided to get away for one night, and a nice dinner. Frankly, I wish we had used the gift card for several dinners at the Rose Tavern, which was excellent with excellent service (a bit over priced!), rather than a one night stay. The Lake House staff was superb, friendly and well trained. Other than the view, the lake view king premium was nothing special and in fact there are more amenities in your typical mid range hotel: - Decor was very monotone, and not sure who selected and placed the artwork. Felt “cold” because of bare floors. - Coffee maker did not work and leaked (I went down to the coffee bar and they comped us 2 cups of coffee). - Beverage cooler, no microwave. - wooden pegs to hang up clothes were useless. - only mirror was over bathroom sink. - chairs if you wanted to sit and read hard and uncomfortable. - ceiling fan in vaulted ceiling not working. - the bathroom was very disappointing, especially for a newer property. Nice shower but just a standard shower head; poor lighting for putting on makeup, etc.; big pet peeve - sign asks you, for “green” purposes, to hang up towels, but NO TOWEL BARS. Fixtures already tarnishing. The common areas are very nice, with much high end craftsmanship that reflects the area. There is a $38 resort fee which they won’t waive even though we didn’t use the pool, hot tub, activities or get our S’mores kits, so just an up charge for the room (oh, we did get a few classes of sparkling wine). In conclusion, great staff but nothing special about a night away.

Outdoor sauna is a must for winter in the Finger Lakes

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

My daughter and I went to The Lake House for the day to enjoy the outdoor sauna experience. We had an amazing time. It was one of the coldest days of the year, and it was so invigorating to do 15-minute sessions in the sauna with one to two minute breaks in between, cooling off outside with crushed ice and cold water. So refreshing and cleansing. There were honey facials and there was lots of herbal spray. Truly, it’s been the highlight of our winter so far. And Tricia did a wonderful job taking care of us. Explaining how to get the most from the experience and checking on us in the sweetest ways to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. After the sauna, we slipped into the hot tub to enjoy the last afternoon sun and mist on Canandaigua Lake. Highly recommend.
