Reviews for Melia Salinas

Real quality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

It is several years since I last wrote a review, but this hotel is so exceptional that it deserves comment. We stayed here in Sept 2023 and Sept 2024, and have booked again for Jan 2025! To give context of our experience, we have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels, and been on a few 4-5* cruises, and in our view, Paradisus Salinas is better than any of them. The staff really make the difference. They appear to genuinely want to help their customers, to engage with them, to assist, to welcome, and to make the holiday as perfect as they can. Nothing is too much trouble. Extra little touches like the doorman always greeting the guests, helping with suitcases, checking all the return transfer taxis to make sure that everyone gets in the right taxi. The staff on the reception desk (both the main one and the reserve) are very professional and knowledgeable. Special mentions to the young lady (Lorna I think?) who seems to be everywhere, checking up on all areas of the hotel, utterly charming, and speaks brilliant English. Also a really lovely girl on the Reserve reception, who gave us a lot of advice about places on the island, and all her favourite places. The staff clearly take pride in the hotel. They are always polite, friendly and enjoy seeing their customers happy. We only experienced one person being slightly pushy, in Cappella, no sooner had she seated us than she was writing her name on a card recommending we mention her in a review. She would have spent the time better getting the bill right, and not charging us for something that we did not have! Is the Reserve worth it? The first time we weren't in the Reserve, the second time we were. The sunbeds in the Reserve are much more comfortable, and it is quieter round the pool. The Reserve pool bar is really excellent, and everything everyone says about the man who makes cocktails with such pride and care is true. There is also a very friendly young lady in the afternoons, who is also very welcoming.. We also really liked that they bring round a cocktail to everyone round the pool at about tea time. Visually, the pool in the main hotel is very attractive, more so than the Reserve. There is a Reserve lounge, but not many people use it. There is also a separate breakfast area for the Reserve, but there is much less selection than in the main restaurant. The advantage is that you get waiter service in the Reserve. The food was outstanding this time round. Last year, as the reviews indicated, the buffet was a bit limited and not very exciting. This year it really was fabulous. There was a vast amount of choice. The seafood night was spectacular, rows of lobster and langoustines. Breakfasts were just amazing, different yogurts, fruits, jams, breads, cakes, pastries, sandwiches, eggs, sausages, beans, tomatoes, salmon, cheeses, smoothies, juices, cereals, and so much more. The speciality restaurants are wonderful. You can't book a table beyond 2 days in advance. The atmosphere in the hotel is really comfortable, modest luxury, not showy or ostentatious. There is a lot of attention to detail. The design of the hotel is stunning, very in keeping with Manrique's style (well, he did help to design it!), and the huge atrium with all the greenery and pools is really striking. The evening entertainment is very low key, really just background music. I think perhaps it would be nice to have a bit of variation, such as a games night, or magic, or songs from the shows, or dancing, or anything that gives a bit of interest, but equally appreciate that not everyone wants that sort of thing. The rooms are pretty much all the same unless you book a suite. They all seem to look out onto the pool or the sea, as there are no rooms which look out onto the back of the hotel. The rooms are spacious, plenty of storage space, and a really decent sized bathroom and separate toilet. Lots of extras provided, decent quality body lotion, hand wash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, flip flops, dressing gowns, sliders, hair dryer, laundry bag etc A big thank you to all those staff who were so helpful, friendly and kind, and we look forward to seeing you again in January.

Lovely holiday!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

My partner and I just visited Paradisus in Lanzarote a few days ago. We absolutely loved and enjoyed our stay there and we will definitely go back! The reason of the four stars instead of five is only because I feel a few really small things could be improved, so read on for more details. The atmosphere is really relaxed and chilled. The atrium just passed the reception smelled every day super lovely (I forgot to ask what it was) and looked incredible, with plants, little falls and fish swimming around in little pools of water. At check-in we have received explanations and a couple of little cards with all the opening times of the bars and restaurants, a plant of the hotel and details on how to book the themed restaurants (Italian, Local - Canarian and Middle Eastern). As other people mentioned in other comments, tables at the themed restaurants can only be booked a couple of days in advance and they do get booked quite quickly. However, we did not experience any issue booking a table for two at the Italian restaurant and the Melià app we used for booking was very easy to use. We have enjoyed a nice dinner there while we decided to try the Canarian restaurant one lunch, as for lunch it does not need booking (loved the octopus dish!). I particularly liked the Canarian restaurant because it served kind of tapas dishes and we were sitting at a table outside where we could admire the sea and part of the beach nearby. Such a lovely holiday mood! On the ground floor next to the atrium, there’s a bar open 24 hour a day, that serves both drinks and snacks, with plenty of tables and comfy armchairs for whoever wants to relax indoors or outdoors. The food at the buffet was various with plenty of choices although I have to say, not one of the best I have ever had, but definitely not the worst either. Maybe the tags with the food description / name could be improved as it wasn’t always clear what was served (for example: in the section with the fish, it would only say “Fish” while I would have liked to know what sort of fish it was). It would be nice also to have a list of main ingredients, so that people would know again whether there would be something they don’t like. The buffet was also supposed to be themed every night, but with the exception of the Sushi night, I’m not sure I understood what the theme was. Not an issue, really, but just thought to mention it. The pool is big and lovely, with the area around it well kept and clean, plenty of sun beds and shaded areas and another little outside bar. I appreciated the fact that it was easy enough to get some shade while still being outside, as the sun and UV can get quite strong in that area and we are trying to be more mindful of our sun exposure. The water though was definitely too cold! Ok when you are moving or doing aquagym, but not enjoyable if you are just trying to cool down a bit and relax in it. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean with a big and comfortable bed. We had a lovely view of part of the pool and a bit of the ocean, but the best thing was the view of a couple of palm trees where about twenty white egret birds would come to rest every night: so cute!! The gym is of a decent size and well equipped in my opinion. We could do there the exercises we normally do. Last but not least all the staff has been really lovely! The pool bar people had a lot of patience with me as I tried to order drinks in my poor Spanish and have always been smiley and friendly. The Entertainment team was super professional and nice. I’ve really enjoyed the aquagym classes and the SUP yoga in the pool (tried it for the first time at the hotel) and the art therapy class in the indoor space. Everyone has been really nice, but I would like to give my special thanks to Armando, Barbara and Brenda who made me feel like I was among friends and showed a real passion, love and knowledge in what they were doing. It has been a very good holiday that we are missing already so much!

Poor Dining Experiences and Poor Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

After we complained to the Resident Manager about the main dining area never being cleared ready for new diners, every morning, we did notice a slight improvement, so hopefully going forward other guests will benefit from this. We found lunch and dinner menus to be boring, repetitive and uninspiring with no cohesion of the food provided. Serving platters were not replenished sufficiently and there did not seem to be staff 'topping up' the other areas regularly enough. The 'hot' food did not look appetizing, the paella being dry on top, every time, and a sea food paella needs more than 12 prawns dotted across the top. The soups were tasteless and greasy. Some of the cheese was so far back on the counter, guests were literally leaning across the other cheeses to reach - totally unhygienic. Most of the food was not hot enough and the food labelling was poor e.g. pasta sauces - no explanation of what flavours or what they contained. Also fish station - no detail of what each variety of fish was. This is on top of my husband being served a raw burger one lunch time and our experience of the Samira was a disaster with my husband being served a luke-warm shawarma and when asked for it to be changed it was re-heated as it was, resulting in hard pitta, hot chicken and warm salad inside. Not 5*. The staff work incredibly hard but the restaurant and bar are woefully under-staffed and the staff suffer the complaints. The bar service in the evening was exceedingly slow, many guests going up to the bar to either order drinks or find out where their drinks were. 20 min before an order was taken and another 20 minutes for your drink to arrive in not acceptable. On a positive note. The hotel is lovely, the surroundings, the pool area and our room would have made for a very relaxing break but we were literally left dreading meal times. On our last night we did dine in the Capella Restaurant which was like being in another hotel. Everything in this restaurant from start to finish was lovely and left us seeing what can be done with the right management, staffing levels and quality of food and service. I hope my review helps to bring the dining experiences in this hotel back up to the standard it deserves.

Lovely hotel but needs more bar staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This was a first time visit for myself and husband. Pros: Beautiful looking hotel Right by the beach Spotlessly clean Nice rooms Big pool area Friendly and attentive staff Amazing food in all restaurants with a lot of variety Cons: The service in the Ginger bar let's the hotel down. This is not the fault of the staff as they are working their socks off, but there just aren't enough of them for the amount of guests wanting drinks (especially when half of them want cocktails that are time consuming to make). It takes too long to get somone to take your order and for you to then get your drinks. Thus us annoying under normal circumstances but even more so when you've paid up front as all inclusive. This would put me off returning. I do want to give a special shout it to Oscar the Sommelier who was super helpful with choosing wines and dud a great wine tasting session. Ylenii who was always so cheerful and chatty.

Superb hotel .

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We stayed 9th-16th September. First off this hotel is stunning . Beautifully layed out and furnished and spotlessly clean . All four restaurants are superb. Even the buffet , which we were a little nervous of as we've had some different experiences in the past . The Italian was my favourite but to be honest it's a little unfair to pick one out as they're all superb. The best thing about this hotel is the staff . They're amazing . So happy helpful and polite . When we checked in we had to change rooms as there was a fault with the air conditioning. We were upgraded to a bigger room and given a bottle of casa for the ",inconvenience ". We hadn't even unpacked . If I have one criticism it's of the service in the ginger bar . It's not the fault of the staff as they work so , so hard . Literally running around sometimes. There's just not enough of them . Sometimes we were waiting 20+minutes to get a drink . Overall this is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in and we would definitely recommend it and very much hope to go back .
