This was my first stay at Rio Perdido, and I was absolutely blown away by the exceptional hospitality, atmosphere, and design of the property. I loved how secluded it was, and I felt completely safe and at ease throughout my stay. The staff were exceptional; gracious, attentive, and passionate about their work. They made me feel welcomed and appreciated in every interaction. Their dedication to providing outstanding service shines through in everything they do for the guests. The food and drinks were simply extraordinary; creative, delicious, and beautifully presented. Despite not being a fan of coconut, I fell in love with one of their coconut desserts, which speaks volumes about the quality of their cuisine. I got the pleasure of meeting the founder, whose passion for preserving nature and delivering a top-tier guest experience is truly inspiring. He shared fascinating insights about the biology/ecology and wildlife of the area, and the complex yet preserving design of the hotel's structures. His dedication to this project is evident in every detail and makes Rio Perdido a unique destination to visit. I wholeheartedly recommend Rio Perdido to everyone and cannot wait to return - hopefully with my wonderful mother who loves to travel - to share this extraordinary experience with her.

We are family of 5. We stayed at Rio Perdido Hotel from Jan.5th to Jan. 8th. We stayed at two East Bungalows. 1. Thermal river and hot springs. This is the best part of all my family. Very secluded and safe. You need water shoes or hiking water shoes such as Keen to walk up to thermal river pools. 2. Hiking. They offer one complimentary guided hike. We went to Volcano viewpoint with a guide, and did carbonated spring and look out point by ourselves. 3. Canon Adventure. We all really enjoyed the zipline. It was the best zipline experience. The staff is very kind and patient. The tubing is closed when we were there. 4. Every day we really enjoyed watching monkeys and birds at the resort. 5. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the same place, but the food selection is nice. Every one in Rio Perdido is very kind and helpful. We will return to Rio Perdido Hotel if we visit Costa Rica again.

We stayed here for four days in early January with our 8-year old daughter and had a fantastic time. The quality and attention to detail here is pretty impressive, and we felt extremely well taken care of. Interestingly, the resort ended up being quite different than I imagined, which at first honestly bummed me out a bit before I was able to shift gears. Having been to Costa Rica before on my own, I wanted to share a similar rain forest experience with my family who were first-time visitors. This resort is absolutely not in the rain forest. I guess it’s technically in a jungle but it feels more apt to describe it as very arid woodlands. Think more along the lines of Texas Hill Country. If I paid more attention to the pictures and reviews I probably would have realized this ahead of time, but it was a bit of a surprise. That being said, the rivers are gorgeous and the climate when we were there was great. We ended up driving an hour to do a rain-forest excursion. There are a lot of hikes on-property that are dry well-maintained and well-planned. But the landscape is not really conducive to loads of animals. We had some very close fun encounters with monkeys that we really enjoyed, but that was pretty much it. We stayed in the newer and more expensive West Bungalows which were absolutely fantastic and felt worth the upgrade. Outdoor showers were super cool. Service was uniformly excellent and food was a standout. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner and enjoyed every meal and every dish. If you are into wine (we are) I’d recommend buying some before you arrive at the resort and paying the $20 corkage fee, as their bottles were crazily over-priced beyond even what you’d expect in the US. We did the Canyon/zip-line experience and thought it was excellent. Staff are clearly safety conscious, and the ability to do multiple lines across the river was really unique. The three small pools were fun but there is certainly no “pool scene” per se, which was fine by us. While the resort is not adults-only, it feels like it skews heavily towards adults. Our 8-year old daughter was very well-received and we didn’t feel out of place with her by any means. But I’d probably hesitate to come here with multiple younger kids or kids that like to run around/yell etc. There isn’t much of interest to do in the nearby off-property area so we mostly stayed at the resort. If I had to do it over again, we would have stayed here 2-3 days rather than 4.5 days. But that being said, we felt like this place was really quite impressive and we loved our time there.

We had a lovely 3-night stay at Rio Perdido! From the moment we arrived to fresh juice, iced towels and sit-down welcome orientation with Rodney, we felt really well taken care of. We had each of our meals at Rio Perdido since it's in a pretty remote location. All our meals were flavorful and featuring amazing local ingredients. The Caribbean Ceviche was especially delightful! Our rooms in the East Bungalows were light and airy with a comfy bed and chaise; hammock swings; and a pretty decent selection of TV channels. And the East Bungalows were easily walkable to the main house, which was nice. What really made our stay was: - The pools: Rio Perdido had a great selection of pools -- a heated pool, a cold plunge pool and a swim-up bar pool -- and plenty of pool loungers. - The spa: I had an incredibly relaxing massage ... at a fraction of the price of a massage in the US! - The thermal river: It was unbelievably amazing to explore the river and explore the varying temperatures of the thermal pools, the incredible forest setting and the soothing river currents. Tip: The river mud is a bit stinky but hey, when in Rome... give it a try! - The Sunset Bar lounge: We really enjoyed having a cocktail while playing the available board games -- Bananagrams and Costa Rica Adventureland. - The sunset volcano view walk: If you can, ask for Oscar as your guide -- he is awesome! Oscar is an incredible wealth of information on forest animals, Costa Rica, volcanoes and overall was really friendly and personable. At the summit of our hike, the clouds hid the volcanoes but we got to see multiple rainbows! - "Mix it up with Guaro!" - We were honestly bummed when the river tubing course sustained damage from high winds and our tubing activity was canceled. But we decided to substitute with the "Mix it up with Guaro" cocktail-making class and this was the best decision ever. We had an absolute blast learning how to balance flavors, aromas and acidity to create a perfect cocktail and garnish it like a pro. Our bartender/instructor, Wes, is THE BEST. He's a great mixologist and made this activity so incredibly fun. The staff at Rio Perdido is truly amazing! They bring a level of hospitality that is warm, friendly and really elite. Thank you to Wes; Jonathan in the restaurant; Rodney/Camila/Paola at the Front Desk and too many others to name...

This place is truly a production. I couldn’t have asked for better service, staff, food or ambience. This is a must stop if visiting the mountains in Costa Rica. you will not be disappointed. Truly loved our stay and will definitely be returning.
