Rio Perdido is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed! Customer service was above and beyond- staff knew our names after day one and everyone was super friendly and helpful. Special kudos to Monica who reached out a month before our trip and helped me plan excursions, book transportation and answer every question we had! She was amazing! We weren’t able to do the tubing activity due to safety issues after recent exceptional rain so we tried the mixology class- wow, so much fun with Wes. We also loved our hike with Kevin and the zip lining onsite with the whole crew. The property is gorgeous, food was terrific (dinners and drinks are pricey though), and we saw monkeys everyday ( my personal favorite part). We upgraded to the center bungalow and arrived at night- it was quite dark inside and may not be for everyone. I would have preferred a few more lamps in the room for evening but during the day, the view was worth it. The outdoor shower was fun- be prepared for some leaves and critters out there. We had a bat swing by after dark one night, so there are trade offs! We stayed three nights and I think I would have enjoyed at least one more day to take advantage of nearby volcano excursions. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and I’m already trying to find an excuse to return! Truly magical experience.

We had a wonderful stay at the Rio Perdido. The setting is so amazing and beautiful. Everything blends into the nature that surrounds the property. The views from the restaurant were breathtaking. We were in the center bungalows. The rooms are very spacious, nice bath and outdoor shower. My only petty negative is that the rooms are very dark at night because of all the black interior walls, etc. so just be aware. Fine during the day because of the big bank of windows. we were able to walk everywhere, but golf carts are always available to pick you up if you want. We loved the pool area and pool bar. And we never had problems getting a chair. The spa is very nice and is open to the pool area, but still very private. I recommend doing the walk they offer. The views from the top are beautiful and give you an idea of the setting. Unfortunately, the white water tubing wasn't operating because of a situation with all the rain. But we did go down to the thermal river and swam around. Loved it. I also did the zip line. My first time. It was so much fun. The only thing a little hard was doing the "rock climbing" you had to do to get from one spot to another. But I'm 70, so that is probably why!! It was definitely the highlight of the trip for me! And the guides were so patient! Our food was delicious. We ate lunch at the pool bar and dinner in the restaurant. The nice thing is that they had a special every night in addition to the menu. And we had so many delicious cocktails! Plus, the dinner views were spectacular! Just like at the Andaz where we stayed after the RP, the highlight and biggest asset of the resort is the amazing staff. Everyone was so helpful, nice and fun, but still professional. When we left we felt like we were leaving our friends! The Rio Perdido is truly a special resort.

My wife, brother-in-law and I stayed at Rio Perdido for four nights in late October 2024. For my wife and me, it was our 7th stay at Rio Perdido, and for my brother-in-law, it was his second in as many years. Quite simply, this is our happy place. I've yet to encounter a hotel like it anywhere else in the world. To visit Rio Perdido is to receive warmth, healing and hospitality. Soak in the thermal river. Enjoy fresh and sustainable meals. Unlock your wild side by zip lining and hiking. Admire the wildlife and vegetation. Make friends with the staff. It's an experience, not just a hotel stay, and one that the founders and staff have meticulously planned to engage all your senses down to the very last detail. We are grateful that the founders have carefully and responsibly grown over the years. By doing so, they have created a culture of sustainability that attracts like-minded guests who are also protectors of their own environments back home and across the world. Rio Perdido is a thriving community of nature, animals and people, and we will keep coming back year after year.

We visited at the last week of October. It is towards the end of their rainy season which is considered off peak so rates were great and occupancy was low. There were days we had all of the pools and pool bar to ourselves. The views from the restaurant are stunning and you're almost guaranteed to see monkeys walking by while you eat. The chefs are culinary wizards. There is a variety of cuisine including Costa Rican, Italian, Steak and Seafood. Over the course of the week we came close to sampling everything on the menu and all of the food is amazing. The main restaurant and pool bar have slightly different menus so you may want to try them both. They also offer room service, but you have to ask for a copy of the menu as one was not provided in the room. The baristas and bartenders are equally amazing! Again, the pool bar and restaurant have slightly different cocktail menus, so be sure to try both. Everything is made hand crafted. All of the syrups are made in house. All of the fruit juices are hand squeezed, and all of the garnishes are freshly sliced every day. They even make their own ginger beer from scratch! I have never seen a bartender take so much care in crafting a cocktail. They use a bar spoon to sample a tiny drop of every cocktail before serving to make sure it's perfect. Also, be sure to ask for a coffee menu. They have am amazing selection of drinks: hot coffee served multiple ways (drip, french press, pour over), cold brew, espresso drinks, coffee cocktails, and blended drinks with ice cream! All of them are worth trying. Menu and cocktail prices are very reasonable considering the quality and especially when compared to a typical city in the US. Note that the menu prices do not include 13% sales tax and a 10% service charge. Even so, we found everything still reasonable prices. Take advantage of some of the classes offered. We took a cocktail class with Wes (who is an amazing and super fun bartender) where he taught us about Guaro, which is a local liquor distilled from can sugar. He gave us the basics on how to craft a cocktail and then we got to make 3 of our own using a wide selection of freshly cut fruits and freshly made syrups. We also took a coffee class from Cesar who was an amazing bartender and barista. He was also super friendly and fun to chat with. We used a pour over method to try coffee brewed from several types of beans. He then took us behind the bar and taught us how to use the fancy espresso machine. Super fun and super worth it! In general all of the staff are amazing and super helpful. We cannot wait to go back! Suggestions: Bring cash for tips (they take US dollars). The bartenders, guides, and staff are so amazing you are going to want to tip beyond the included 10%. Bring quick dry towels and cloths that with away sweat because it can be humid! Take advantage of the free guided tour on your first or second day. The trails can be difficult of follow and the map they provide is not particularly useful. The staff has electric golf carts and, by request, will drive you back and forth to your bungalow from the restaurant. If you like nature and wildlife, it's better to walk. It's a small resort and none of the bungalows are very far from the main building. We saw all sorts of cute critters on our morning walks to breakfast and evening walks back from dinner.

Th staff was friendly and attentive. The food was over-the-top delicious. Our room was lovely - private, serene setting. The property was beautiful and the wildlife was amazing. We really enjoyed the guavo mixology class. Would not change one thing.
